Rhen
It is a normal day like all the others. I was sitting on my windowsill enjoying the sun hit against my skin and watching the young pups run across the fields. I saw them but they never saw me.
I was invisible.
My windows were tinted black on the outside so no one could see into my room and try to get a glance at me. Sometimes I wish I was born as someone else, this power I have ruined my life. Forever stuck in this room until I met my mate.
Which probably won't happen to see as I never leave. I heard a knock on my bedroom door I squinted my eyes suspiciously who would be visiting me.
"Who it is?" I asked as I slowly stood up and walked toward the door. I leaned my head against it trying to get a sense of who it is.
"It's Margaret dear." Margaret was my seamstress, she made all my cloaks for me to wear in the off chance I leave the castle. I backed up and grabbed the black one I had on my bed and put it on making sure no part of me was seen. I then put on long black gloves.
"Come in," I said as I sat on the chair in front of my vanity.
Magaret walked in with three new cloaks. Black, white and tan. I sighed and I was disappointed that she didn't make the color I wanted.
"Here you go princess, three new cloaks just like you asked." She said smiling proud of her work.
"I wanted a blue one, Margaret." I stood walking over to them and grabbing the material in my hands.
"I know Princess, but your parents gave me strict orders of what colors were appropriate for you."
I rolled my eyes knowing that she couldn't see it. That's what she says every time, I just hope one day she will listen to me. I started to hag up the cloaks and I realized she was still here.
"You can go now." I heard her get up and walk out. I went over and locked the door back so no one can get in.
I went to sit down in my chair and I took my cloak off, finally free to be me again. My mother told me that when I was born the nurse holding me was the one who turned rogue and that is when they found out about my power.
She told me I was the most beautiful girl in the land...world actually. But aren't all mothers supposed to say that? I have never seen other girls so I wouldn't know.
I had long jet black hair that went to my waist. I had naturally tanned skin which I am surprised how. I had jet black eyelashes and eyebrows, which contrasted my eyes. My eyes were dark green and had hazel specks all over like my eyes had freckles. I had naturally light red lips and perfect teeth which I appreciated.
Even though I was told I was too beautiful for the world I still wish I had a companion. Or at least be able to leave and be in the world. Or have like a guard with me to protect me. I think I should ask my parents about that.
Someone to follow me around and take me out and be somewhat normal.
And just on cue, someone knocked on the door. I walked over and opened it not having to check I could smell it was my parents. I moved out the way for them to come in and I went back to where I was.
My mom grabbed a hairbrush and started brushing my hair for me as my dad sat on my bed behind us. They did this every day. It was our time.
"I have something to ask you." My dad leaned forward as a way to get me to start talking.
"I was wondering if there was any way for me to have a bodyguard? Like a warrior or something who can go where I go. I am 19 and the only thing I have seen is what is out my window."
My mom stopped brushing my hair and turned around to look at them. They were talking in the mind link to each other and I was confused why.
"Well, there is someone we had in mind actually. We had him on our radar for a while now but we just didn't want to force the idea on you if you weren't ready." My mom said as she went to sit next to my dad.
"His name is Jedidiah Alister he is 25 and he is from an American pack. He is the strongest warrior there is and he is being written into history books as we know it. And if this is something you really want I will go make some calls and have him here next week."
Once my dad stopped talking I screamed and jumped up and down and ran to give them a hug. I could burst into tears. Normally when I think of plans like this it hey immediately say no. So yes, I'm happy but also skeptical at the same time.
"Wait. Does he have a mate?" I pulled away.
If he had a mate then I would have to work around hours and it would be complicated. I would start to feel bad at the fact that he was away from his family.
"No, he doesn't I checked. So then it is settled you will meet Jedidiah next week." Both of my parents had a huge smile on their faces that I'm sure matched mine.
"Alright love, we will see you tomorrow. I need to go put Rylee and Rebecca in the bed." My mom stood up and gave me a kiss on the head and walked out. Once the door closed the atmosphere changed around my dad.
"What's wrong?" I sat down next to him.
"I didn't want to say this in front of your mother. But there is new information on your abilities." My heart started beating fast I hope it wasn't bad news.
"I talked to the elders and they spoke with the moon goddess. Basically your power isn't leaving as we thought. When you meet your mate it will only affect your eyes after that point. There is good news which is it won't affect your whole body. Which means no more cloaks and all you would have to wear is sunglasses."
I sighed and slouched, none of that is good news. I would still have to cover a part of myself from the world.
"I know that it's not the news you were hoping for but don't worry things will get better in time. I promise."
He pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead. He got up and walked out. As he was walking out River my twin walked in. I could feel the tears fall down my face, I thought this nightmare would end but now it never will.
"I overheard what dad said. I'm so sorry Rhen. I don't know why the moon goddess did this to you." I appreciated River and his attempt to make me feel better.
"There's nothing I can do to change it." I shrugged my shoulders and before he could hug me a stood up and walked to the door.
"I'm sorry River I would really like to be alone right now." He walked toward me and stood in front of me for a few moments.
"I understand. I will see you tomorrow." With that, I closed the door.
I went back to the windowsill and sat as I finished watching the sunset. Next week needed to hurry and get here, there was so much I wanted to do for myself and soon I'll be able to.
