Chapter 39
CHAPTER 39
|| Savannah's POV ||
The cafeteria seemed lively and always had the aura of a refresher. After working a part-time shift, I was thankful to Mrs.Harrison who offered me this job to me. Perhaps, she had figured out how disoriented my mind was. Besides, she always took care of my needs while living at Kasper's home. Hence, I grabbed this offer in the hope that my thoughts wouldn't revolve around Ares or his life. It worked pretty well, too busy with my job to think about everything.
" Wow, you are taking this too seriously, Sav.", Kasper chuckled, sipping from his coffee as he stood opposite my desk. I laughed back, still dealing with the order of the ingredients that Mrs. Harrison ordered from the next city,
" Hmm! I am passionate about working. Thanks to your mother."
Kasper parted his lips to say something and I assumed that he had something more to spill out. But taking a deep look at my expression, he skipped to a different topic, wanting to escape from there as soon as possible,
" I will be here for this hour. Call me up if you need something!"
I wrapped my fingers around the tiny mug, humming some soothing music. It was finally a better day after confronting Ares the other day. Hopefully, this would go on as I didn't know how to face him honestly. As I dreamt of a happy day, suddenly multiple voices began to gasp from the outdoor cafeteria. A shiny black SUV was soon parked and the noisy crowd erupted into more gasps and whispers.
I dropped the glass on my desk, peeking my head their way curiously. This was a small local cafeteria. In no way, some heir would take their interest to arrive at this place.
As confusion puzzled across my face, a silhouette hopped down, freezing my eyes that way.
ARES!
I almost screamed his name out of frustration. But luckily, my throat lost the power and I ended up sinking into thoughts stupifying. He looked different in his classy black leathered pant, pitch-dark t-shirt, and round glass, taking over his face. For a split moment, my heart skipped a beat. He looked too handsome in those fancy clothes. I didn't know, it was his aftereffect of winning the cup but he looked like that rich spoiled heir.
Did he come for me?
Anxiety and hope gripped my heart. It would be a lie if I didn't expect a little pampering from him. Which woman didn't like to be coveted?
My eyes peered back at his new SUV, wondering how much dollars he had spent on this car. He had his driving car already, why did he get another one?
None of your business, Savannah!
My instinct shouted back at me, reminding me how distant we had become over a week. No phone calls, no texts, no connection as if we were never before.
His eyes followed the door and instantly, my heart began to flutter incredibly fast. He was in the city's limelight now. No wonder, many people recognized him as soon as he came out.
When I flattered myself over the thoughts that whether he was here for me or not, another silhouette followed him, hopping down from his car.
Brittany!
Wearing a very short dress, that bitch climbed out of his car, fixing her hair repeatedly as the crowd was paying attention to them. My blood began to boil underneath my veins and it was difficult to maintain a calm face as if nothing happened.
Ares with Brittany entered the cafeteria, holding each other's arms which gave me the urge of smashing everything around.
What were they doing here? Trying to show off?
I composed myself after a few breaths. They picked the table in the front row, behaving extremely casually which was more suffocating. Pushing my eyes up, I saw Kasper sending me worry look but I assured him with my eyes that I could handle their little shit. If Ares wanted to play, I was into it.
Resuming my leftover work, I paid all my sole attention to the laptop, reordering the list and hoping that they would leave as early as possible. The feeling of being watched soon discomforted me. Whenever I glanced up, it was Brittany who was clinging onto Ares unreasonably.
Was he spying on me?
Not long after that, staff attended their table and from my distance, I could vaguely overhear some argument at the table. Having no choice but to peer, I saw barking at my female staff. It was unclear what was she rumbling about but she looked insane with her expression.
Pausing, I made my way for their table, expecting that it wasn't their new tantrum to lower me here.
" Mam, is everything okay with you?", I kept my tone professional without meeting his grey eyes. But his eyes were always on me from the moment I headed out from my desk.
Brittany whose eyes turned red in anger began to ramble more loudly after spotting my arrival,
" What kind of stuff do you guys hire in this place? Look at my shoes! She dropped all the cold coffee on it and refused to clean it off."
My eyes followed her and saw a large portion of cold coffee sprawling over her shoe. It wasn't as serious as Brittany sounded. The female staff was scared behind me. Brittany's barking would have scared anyone as she roared like an animal.
Gesturing at the female staff to leave, I stuck to my professional tone while speaking to her,
" Mam, she is staff, not your maid. You can use the washroom to clean if you want!"
Brittany snickered at me, her glaring getting harder when she looked up at me before saying,
" If she can't clean, you can, don't you?"
My jaw dropped, and the urge of slapping her face became very compassionate. But I had to hold back for the sake of Mrs.Harrison who entrusted this job to me. I expected a word from Ares who was silent all this time and didn't utter a single word.
What do you expect? He wasn't even your real boyfriend.
My mental statement slapped me, forcing me to remember how fake everything was. Before I could retort anything, Kasper showed up beside me. Like always, his hand wrapped around his shoulder and I noticed how observant Ares was of Kasper's movements.
He looked pissed off again. The darker gleam on his momentum became evident and I was scared of his violence. Ares was never cool with his temper. No one knew it better than me!
Kasper kept his voice sharp, clear,
" Miss, she isn't any stuff here. She is the manager here. If you insist on accepting any apology from us, you may leave."
" Is she that important for you to ask your guest to leave?", Ares finally broke the silence, his eyes getting dark in rage. I was nervous at the moment for Kasper who just stood by my side as a friend.
To my surprise, Kasper didn't get angry with his words. Smiling back at Ares slightly, he admitted wrapping his arms around me tightening,
" Of course!"
Ares's expression grimaced and he let out a low chuckle before nudging at Brittany's arms,
" Since the owner doesn't know how to respect the client, there is no reason for us to stay Brittany. Let's get somewhere else!"
He stormed outside, his footsteps hasty after they departed together not before I received Brittany's glare. After they exited without further trouble, I released a sigh of relief.
Kasper smirked down at me, staring at their retreating,
" They seem to come for trouble. Have you guys patched up?"
I shrugged, not having that mental state of speaking about that kinky Ares. He got on my nerves and looked for trouble. Shaking my head, I headed back for my desk, mumbling my response before taking the chair,
" We have nothing to patch up. They are dating, can't you see?"
I wasn't one hundred percent sure but the way, Ares supported Brittany and treated me like a stranger that's all I could think of so far. Even if it wasn't dating, at least they were seeing each other.
Who am I to interfere with their personal life?
Kasper chuckled, pushing a magazine my way,
" The media is giving too much attention to Ares's life. See the news! They are still bluffing about the kiss. But let me tell you the truth!"
I looked up from my laptop, waiting for Kasper to speak. He tugged into a small smile before speaking his words out,
" If Ares felt nothing about you, he wouldn't have bothered to appear in this small cafe. I saw him, Savannah. Ever since he entered here, his eyes were on you until the end. Maybe, he is really into you."
So, I wasn't hallucinating at all. It was Ares watching me all this time when I worked at my desk. Did he come to see me? If he cared about me, why did he bring Brittany with him?
