Chapter 67
CHAPTER 67
He kept his words, turned, and disappeared from my sight, probably from my life. I cried on the ocean that night. Possibly, his grandfather was right about me. A girl like me didn't deserve a good guy like him.
___________
" Are you sure about leaving him, Aria?", Savannah spoke through the phone, her voice dripping in concern. Finally, I felt that I couldn't hold anything inside me anymore. It was best to share everything with her. I explained and cried a lot and finally felt relieved. Savannah shared every detail of their impossible mission. Finally, I was glad that my brother's name would be cleared. But she was all worried about me even wanting to come over to my hostel but I forbade it. It was already late at night.
I wiped the tears from my eyes, humming and mixing the coffee in the mug,
" Very sure! Ethan's career is important."
Savannah made an assumption, sounding expectant,
" What if Ethan gets to enter the national team and still wants you? Will you still walk away from him for the sake of his career?"
My heart beat wildly after those words came out. The future was unpredictable and surely, nothing would be a barrier between us at that time but will Ethan still want her? I hurt him repeatedly. It was impossible that he would still have his hopes for her.
Sighing, I mumbled, taking a sip from my coffee,
" I...I will think about it..."
The unexpected knock from the door interrupted my conversation with Savannah. I paused, sharpening my ears to hear our caretaker speaking,
" Miss Thatcher, someone is asking you out to meet downstairs."
__________
I was shaking by the time, I came downstairs. Seems like, the past incident with the media left me haunted by thoughts. Stepping on the staircase, I peeked outside first to find no commotion. Immediately in relief, I strode downstairs until the hallway lights came across my vision. Savannah repeated in the chorus that if anything bad happens, I shouldn't hesitate to contact them at once especially when I haven't even had Ethan to support me in this situation.
" Aria..", Lucas muttered, standing on his seat to give me a slight smile. My eyes froze in horror, wondering how the hell he had gotten the new address of my hostel.
" Come here, child..", another voice pulled back my attention. I turned my head to see his father, smiling big like he had won a trophy. His eyes were full of smiles through his glasses. Lucas's father always had a warm personality. As they both were professors, their son naturally grew up to become a good student. I wish that Lucas was more likely his father.
Smiling back at him politely, I approached them nervously and took the opposite couch to sit down together. Our manager smiled at me from the reception as an encouragement as if she could read the situation.
Lucas's father started, his voice sounding serious,
" I heard everything already, child. To be honest, I am very disappointed in my son. He went under a bad influence and it is our fault that we couldn't raise our child properly."
" Da...Dad..", Lucas whined apologizing as if he couldn't bear to hear his father, blaming himself for something he did.
His father raised his hand as a signal to stop him from talking. Lucas immediately went quiet and looked down in remorse. Ever since we had been sitting here together, Lucas didn't look into my eyes for once.
His father continued, giving me his sympathetic glare all through the conversation,
" I can understand your pain but child, you both are going to have a baby now. You have to be more mature than before. I am not forcing you to rebuild your relationship again but I can just hope that you two try out once for the sake of this unborn child. Trust me, it's hard to raise a child as a co-parent."
I had nothing to say there. Although he might be right, all he cared about was the baby in my stomach. Once he got no response from me, he exhaled heavily. Standing up from his seat, he urged Lucas before giving us private space,
" Talk to her! Don't make me beat you later."
Lucas looked terrified at the mention of beating later. I had no idea what kind of beating they were talking about but I was uncomfortable in Lucas's presence.
He exhaled a heavy sigh before starting, and pursued his lips together tightly,
" Aria...I know, I have no face to ask for your forgiveness but can we try..once for this child...I promise that I will be a good father.."
There was no doubt in his words. Lucas stated everything with sincerity that he had never done before. I clutched the hem of my clothes, suddenly having a flashback when Ethan told me,
" I have a feeling that your baby will love me more than you.."
" I will make him a spoiled brat.."
" He will be my big fan..."
Those lines were the times when we spent nights together. He loved to talk with my belly, sounding so stupid yet lovely. Something poked in my heart hard. Slipping down a drop of tear from my eyes, I muttered, keeping my words clear,
" I...I am sorry, Lucas..even if we go back together, I can never stop loving Ethan... It's just...I fell in love with him madly... There is no room..for anyone.. anymore...We can't try for the sake of this baby...It will hurt us more...I welcome your presence in my baby's life but not us anymore..."
|| Ares's POV ||
" Finn Hansley! Do you admit that you have framed Ares Thacher with this fake video footage?", the head of the sports board team rumbled his words out, giving a death glare to Finn who was standing, facing them. I could see the disappointment in their eyes. From a top player, they didn't expect this behavior at all.
