The watch
The car arrived an hour later at the university gates. Livy was about to open the door when Arthur thrust a box at her.
"This is ...?" Livy was stunned.
Without answering, Arthur opened the box, taking out an antique rose gold women's watch.
"This is for you," he said.
Livy didn't know how to react to this sudden gift, her face looked stupid. "Huh? What? F-For me? You mean you gave this to me?"
This was the first time Arthur had personally given an item to her. The watch looked antique and luxurious, Livy guessed how much it cost.
"Can't I give you a gift?" Arthur frowned.
"That's not what I mean ..."
She was taken aback when Arthur motioned for her to give him her hand, and she did so somewhat embarrassedly. When Arthur's finger touched her skin, it stung slightly and her heart skipped a beat. The next second the watch was wrapped around her wrist.
"It's pretty." Livy said subconsciously.
Arthur let go of her hand. "Wear this watch wherever you go. Don't take it off except at home."
'Wear it everywhere?'
Livy was a little flustered but she nodded, her face blushed and she said a bit embarrassed, "Thanks. But you shouldn't have—"
"That's nothing," Arthur interrupted her, placing the watch case in the car seat pocket. "This is a gift that I should have given you. I don't want to forget that promise."
"Ah."
Livy was a bit disappointed to hear this. It turned out that this prize was just a payment for her making it into university.
"So because of that ..."
Her face couldn't hide her disappointment even her voice did. Arthur sensed her disappointment, but pretended not to know it.
"I picked this especially for you. Don't you like it?"
"Huh?" Livy was confused, feeling a bit misheard.
Arthur tilted his body, Livy was startled by this sudden movement and gulped. The perfume Arthur had used spread on her nose, almost choking her from its masculine scent. She saw Arthur touch the watch and rubbed it.
"I chose this design specifically. I don't know what your favorite color is, but it suits your pure personality."
Livy had never heard Arthur compliment her. Can this be called a compliment?
"T-Thank you." Livy looked down in embarrassment.
"So, do you like it?"
"I ..."
"If you don't like it, I will replace it with the design and color you like."
"No. I like ... I really like this."
Why doesn't she like it? It didn't matter what the reason was for giving this watch, more importantly it was Arthur's special choice for her. What makes this watch special.
Livy smiled.
Arthur faintly saw Livy's smile and said, "Then come out now. I'll help you carry your things."
Livy refused. "Ah. No need to bother. I can do it myself, I don't have much stuff."
She immediately opened the door and walked out, but Arthur also followed her out. When he got out of the car there were many students who happened to see and whisper. They all could barely take their eyes off Arthur's tall figure and his handsome face, even stopping halfway just to stare at him. Some of them had blushing faces and drooling on their lips. Livy, who originally only cared about her belongings, grew annoyed because of this and didn't know what to do. She pushed Arthur inside again.
"T-That's ... I told you I could do it. It's too hot outside, you might sweat, better come on in." Livy opened the door, but Arthur held the door open.
"Why? I just want to help you."
Livy bit her lip, she looked around and still saw the eyes of the fox looking at her husband. This pissed her off. "No need. Really."
Arthur watched Livy's movements, realizing how uncomfortable she was. He guessed Livy didn't like being seen with him, so he didn't push.
"Okay."
He took one last look at Livy before walking back in. Livy hastily took the suitcase in the trunk, then approached the open window.
"I'm going in now."
“Mn. Be good.”
However, Livy was still where she was and her eyes were moving restlessly.
"Anything else you need?" Arthur frowned.
"Um ... I'll send you a message when I get to the dorm." Livy said nervously.
Arthur was stunned but it was only temporary and he said, "Better call. Kinda hard to read the messages on the phone."
"Ah, that's right. Then I'll call you later." Livy waved her hand, smiling awkwardly. "I'm going in now."
Arthur nodded, then the car window was closed. After the car started, Livy's body loosened up tiredly as if just saying that she would contact the man took a lot of energy.
As the car drove away, Livy's eyes fell on the car sadly as if she would never see it again in her life.
To be precise, she was sad to be separated from Arthur.
She watched until the car had completely turned a corner before she entered the university building. After re-enrolling, she went to the dormitory building. Immediately meet the dormitory guard and state the room number.
Arthur said there were two dorm room options she could choose from, but it turned out that one of the options had already been filled by someone else and only one was left. In the end, Livy got the big room that Arthur first proposed. It was a special type of room with only one occupant.
Actually, she was dissatisfied with this. She was worried that she would be seen as excessive since she was only a scholarship student. But since she had no other choice, she accepted it, and was forced to think of a way to move as time went on.
"Here is your key. An assistant will come to clean your room and wash your clothes every Saturday. So the assistant has the key to this room too."
"Assistant?" Livy was a bit confused.
In front of her, was a female dormitory guard who was in her forties named Darla. She looked at Livy with the faintest disdain in her eyes.
They were both separated by a glass partition. There were three round holes, and one square hole in the glass. Even though the glass was frosted, she still saw clearly.
The woman sat in a small swivel chair. Her slightly chubby body filled the body of the chair, every time she moved, there was a strange squeaking sound.
"Why are you surprised? You're lucky someone facilitates you for free. Do you think it's normal for scholarship students to get facilities like this?" said the woman.
Livy's forehead frowned faintly.
"They said it was a special request from one of the new investors. Are they your relative or something?"
Investor?
The woman looked at Livy's appearance from top to bottom. The look of her annoyance was all too obvious.
"You should know, no matter who your relatives are at this university, in my eyes all students here are equal." The woman sneered.
Her fat hand again took the pen. Write something down in a book. Obviously didn't want to look at her.
"Even if you enter through the merits route, this privilege will make others dissatisfied. Most of them are scholarship holders, only sleeping in rooms of four people. And you ..." The woman shook her head, smiling disdainfully, "... someone would be misunderstood."
Misunderstood?
Livy immediately knew the meaning of this misunderstanding that the dormitory guard said. Moreover, she was ridiculed like someone who had embarrassed the family. What this dormitory guard was referring to, must be the things in quotes.
Did she think Livy wanted this?
Everything was arranged by Arthur. The investor must be Arthur, right?
Arthur meant well, Livy was sure he had planned it carefully. It's just that, the comments of people who don't know anything will go blindly because of this, the reputation may become bad.
That meant she had to move to another room ASAP.
"Sorry, if another vacant room is possible, I'd like to move instead."
The woman chuckled sarcastically. Still without looking at her, she replied, "You move and word will reach that investor. Then they will think that I kicked you out of this place."
Livy was surprised. "Ma'am, I asked to move myself. This is my decision, not you to be scolded."
Livy's fingers were shaking. She never quarreled with strangers, she was a little scared.
What does this woman really want? Was she annoyed that Livy had been placed in a special room? Maybe she thought that the average scholarship recipient was just a poor student, they couldn't afford to pay more for a nice hostel. Then casually thought that the poor university student who was stationed here, must have committed a forbidden act.
What shallow thinking!
The woman was still writing something in her book, but then she looked up. "Why do you want to move? Is what I said true?"
Livy's tone rose, "Ma'am, what exactly do you mean? Did I offend you? If you don't accept me being placed in this dorm, then find me a suitable place. That's enough!"
"I was just talking about something that might be going on behind the scenes. If you don't feel it, why be angry?"
"You ...!"
Livy didn't continue speaking, she was panting with anger, but she was holding herself back as hard as she could. She wanted nothing to do with this woman at all, they would meet frequently in the future, she didn't want to make things difficult for herself.
And so, without insisting for so long, she took the key from the square box and left without looking back.
In the room she was headed for, she immediately opened the door and clicked her tongue. As soon as her gaze fell on the whole room, her anger disappeared, she was stunned.
Such spacious room!
The room actually looked simple, but spacious and comfortable. Livy was amazed for a moment and forgot that she was annoyed.
She carelessly put the bag in her hands while looking around. Serious. It was really wide. There was a big bed in the middle. There was a refrigerator, bookshelves, a study table with a new computer on it, as well as a cupboard and television. The coolant flickered softly against her hair and forehead. Under the study table a warmer for the winter was placed there. Unlike the dorm room she had imagined, this was indeed like a private room.
Livy thought, this is totally inappropriate.
Naturally, the dorm guard was very annoyed with her. She thought Livy wouldn't be able to facilitate herself given the way she looked.
But when she looked back at the room, her forehead furrowed. She didn't know if the special dorm room was fully facilitated like this or if Arthur had prepared everything.
The second option seems more reasonable.
If it was Arthur, he could do anything, it wasn't impossible that he would have prepared all of this for her.
Fatigue immediately overtook her and she plopped down on the soft mattress. The smell of detergent entered her nose sharply.
So relaxing.
She immediately took the phone. Although this place was good, she couldn't stay here for long, the guard was right. There will be misunderstandings later.
As soon as Arthur's contact was opened, Livy just looked at it gloomily. She swiped across the screen with her finger, right on the contact's name. But in the end, she didn't know what to tell Arthur if she called him.
Would Arthur be mad at the dormitory's guard if she were honest?
... to be continued ...
