She's my wife
What Sarah said was true, Livy checked the university's website, the news photos and inappropriate titles about her were gone. Even the photos that were spread in the group were also deleted. This is weird. But pretty good too.
"It is said that the perpetrator pleaded guilty. The perpetrator was actually not a student here, he was an outsider! Can you imagine? He broke into the university's website easily from outside. That's crazy!" Sarah explained absently.
"He confessed? You saw the culprit?"
"Of course not, stupid. But everyone heard it, so I only know from gossip that is circulating. The perpetrator admitted that this photo was only edited and he deliberately damaged the reputation of the university."
"Did the culprit come here before I came?"
Sarah shrugged. "Dunno. It's possible that he came before you arrived. Well, right after you contacted me, the news suddenly disappeared from the website and had become a frenzy. You see this, they're all still discussing it."
Sarah showed her phone screen, which hasn't stopped ringing since earlier because of the group conversation.
"Then how was your meeting with the dean?" she asked.
"No problem. He didn't bring it up at all."
"No one in the group dared to discuss this matter, they only thought that maybe the news was wrong, but they were still wondering what the real motive was for the photos being spread. Most of them regret this incident and feel you are very unfortunate."
Livy grinned. After the gossip was changed again, everyone felt sorry for her. This change of circumstances made her unusual.
"But be honest with me, were the photos fake?" Sarah's eyes searched.
Livy immediately looked away nervously. "Hm, that's ... actually it's all real."
Sarah widened her eyes in surprise. She shouted, "What? S-So ... so it's true that you were dru—"
"Shh, shut up!" Livy immediately covered Sarah's mouth and glared. "Only you know about this matter. Don't spread it anymore, ok! About that photo, I'm really drunk, but I'm with Arthur, no one else."
"Mff, mff!" Sarah's protests muffled within her hands.
Livy chuckled and released Sarah's mouth.
"You warned me not to share photos, don't you trust me that much, huh?" Sarah was offended. "You don't know how freaked out I was when your photos got out and you were ridiculed by everyone?"
Hearing Sarah's words, Livy felt guilty. She hugged Sarah. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to accuse you."
Sarah sighed and clapped her hands. "Never mind. Issue resolved, now all is well. I'm glad it ended well."
Livy suddenly remembered that Sarah had discussed someone on the phone, so she asked, "Oh yeah, you said you met Amara?"
"Well, that's what I want to tell you. I saw Amara taking your photos on the bulletin wall and throwing them away. I followed her and asked her many things. At first she didn't want to admit it, and was suspicious of me, but after I confessed that I was your friend, she soften." Sarah told the story in one breath and as excited as ever, she continued, "So how long have you and Amara known each other? How come I didn't know?"
Livy had been really close to her lately, but it was just a casual greeting. Amara usually helps her pick up food packages secretly sent by Arthur. Now that Livy thought about it, she was also wondering.
"We are in the same dorm, that's all. She's also placed in the VIP Dorm." After this sentence, she whispered, "She just moved in a while after I moved in."
"Only that?" Sarah was confused. "That's all you know? So you don't know that Amara is the younger sister of your husband's assistant named Evander, the man with glasses?"
"Huh?"
***
The news about Amara being Evander's sister still surprised Livy. It was just that after she thought about it, it made sense. Where could Amara directly deliver the food packages that Arthur sent if they didn't know each other? She should have guessed since that day, right?
In the end, after the postponed class schedule, the lecturer personally messaged her that she would send the quiz that was being held today in class via email.
This shock also left her in a daze.
Since when do lecturers bother telling their students who skipped class about missed quizzes? Is this the dean's order?
It seems so impossible.
However, Livy did not want to think about it.
She returned to the dormitory when it was still evening, and before dark she wanted to rest in her room while thinking carefully about this whole incident. Perhaps she should also tell this to Arthur? She wanted to know what Arthur's response would be to this.
Thinking about it made Livy smile to herself.
Just when she was upstairs, she was met with the mocking gaze of the fat dormitory guard as usual. Livy tried to ignore it.
"Look at you, you still dare to come after doing trouble." Darla scoffed. "Oh I see, are you here to pick up your things? The problem student must have been kicked out right after they committed the offense, right?"
Livy kept walking, when she passed the counter she saw the guard lady come out from there.
"Why are you silent? What I'm saying is true? Don't be so sullen. Everything you got was your own doing. You entered here with no pure value, someone behind you is helping you, so no need to get cocky, ok?" Darla leaned against the door with her arms crossed, but Livy was still indifferent.
It seems that this made the fat woman a little annoyed.
"Hei, are you deaf? I'm talking to you! I was still kind enough to greet you on your last day, don't be so arrogant. Look, I even came out of the counter to help you pack things up."
Livy lost her temper and turned her head. "I'm not going anywhere and I'm still living in this dorm. Excuse me."
"Wait! Still here? Are you imagining?" Darla laughed, Livy turned around to leave, but suddenly her arm was pulled tightly. "Stop! I'm still talking to you, stop behaving like this. I am the guard of this dorm and I have to be heard."
"Let me go!"
The woman let go of her in disgust. “You bitch, are you turning down free touches because usually you get paid just for a little touch on your rich man? Now that you say it, is it true that you still live in this dorm? How much did that guy pay to keep you here, huh?"
"Watch what you say! I'm not that kind of woman!"
Darla was not afraid and laughed scornfully. "What's not a woman like that? Your drunken photos are all over the place. Even though they're gone now. But do you think that makes any sense, removing the news in an instant only the dean could do, unless the dean was bribed. Even hoax news will only be marked that it is fake and there is no reliable source, but your photos are immediately deleted without any explanation. Don't you think there is a power of people behind it? Is that your man?"
"Ma'am, the news was deleted because it's not true!"
Darla gave her a sinister look. Still looked down on it.
"Whatever you say, I don't care. What you definitely need to know, is that I'm actually on the scholarship track. I can prove my worth."
"Then, what about your luxurious facilities in the dorm? Are you going to say that you are actually a rich person?" There was a satisfied smile on the guard lady's face.
"That's ..."
Livy didn't know how to explain this part, she couldn't possibly say that her husband had done it. She didn't want anyone to know that she was married here.
"Now you're confused about explaining it, so everything is clear." Darla walked over a bit and tapped her on the shoulder. "I'm telling you, it's fine to admit it, after all there are actually a lot of college students who often do this kind of thing."
"Do not touch me!" Livy pushed the fat woman's hand away rather roughly. "I told you what you're accusing is not true! I can report you to the dean to get you out of here!"
These words left Livy's lips just like that with trembling. She really couldn't stand this guard lady's behavior, but she was also afraid. Apparently, this made the woman very angry and her face turned ugly.
"Report me? Report it if you have the guts too, slut!"
Livy slapped her.
"You ..."
Livy didn't know what happened next. She couldn't have anticipated events that happened so quickly. Perhaps because she was very angry, the woman pushed her hard. They were close and because she was fat she easily sent Livy over the side of the stairs and she slipped down.
Instinctively, Livy looked for a handrail for her life, but the banister was so slippery she couldn't make it. Just when she thought she was going to fall hard and get hurt, she landed on a good spot. Gradually, the buzzing in her ears disappeared and the racing adrenaline made her heart still pound. Livy slowly opened her eyes and that's when she saw Arthur's face right above her.
"Y-You ..." Livy couldn't continue her words, shock and shaking.
"What's going on? What happened?" The old dean's voice sounded frantic and drew closer.
Livy immediately came to her senses and tried to free herself, but Arthur held her waist tighter and motioned her to stop moving.
"Darla, what are you doing? You pushed her down? How dare you!"
"Mr. Smith, I didn't! She slipped herself, it was just a trick. She knew you guys would pass under her, she did it on purpose, she wanted to create drama!" Darla laughed.
"Shut up!"
"Come on, listen to me, sir. I've been at this university for a long time, and you know what character I am. I can't hurt anyone. She fought with me and said she wanted to complain about what I did to you, even though I didn't do anything."
"I said shut up! What do you think you're doing?! Get down from up there!" The old dean shouted until his voice was hoarse, he then spoke to Arthur in a softened tone, "Mr. Finnegan, is she okay? If she gets hurt, I'll take you to take her to the infirmary."
Arthur's jaw clenched. "No need."
Robin had sweat on his forehead, feeling very nervous.
Darla didn't know why, ever since she came down, she felt the situation wasn't right. The hairs on her neck stood up. When she accidentally caught Arthur's patterned gaze, it was cold and piercing. She was scared.
In the end Arthur released Livy and allowed her to stand, but Livy winced in pain. "You hurt?"
"M-My leg looks like it's sprained," she admitted.
"See, you can still act, which means you're fine. Stop lying and showing your poor face." Darla sneered.
"Darla!"
Arthur's hands were secretly clenched into fists, his heart roaring with anger, but he didn't say anything.
Darla had no idea who Arthur was because she had just seen him. She guessed Arthur was an investor who wanted to see the university build. But then she thought this person was very handsome and amused enough to keep looking at him.
"Mr. Handsome, sorry that you have to witness this, actually it's not like what you see. This female student is a trouble maker, she's actually going to be expelled from this uni any minute now, so she deliberately picked a fight with me." Darla said softly
"I don't—"
Her words stopped when Arthur squeezed her hand silently.
Behind them, the dean was terrified and wanted to curse Darla with all his heart.
"She entered through the scholarship route but got a special room, everyone mocked her as a rich man's mistress. She didn't accept it and accused me of spreading fake news. She thought the gossip started with me, but I didn't. Sir, this woman is sneaky, don't be swayed with a sad face."
Livy couldn't take it anymore, but Arthur still held her back by squeezing her hand. Arthur's hand was very cold and stiff holding it.
She got nervous.
"Yesterday a teenage girl came to look for her. She even said that this female student never comes home and is always in trouble. Also this female student is, sorry ... a bit naughty, that's what she said. The girl came on the day off to ask her to come back. When she found out her sister's behavior here, she felt sad, even went home crying." Darla continues her story.
But this last story made both Livy and Arthur wince. Teenage girl?
Is she Brenda?
"So, everything I said wasn't lying, she's just like that. I was just trying to help her pack up, but she just got mad."
"I told you I'm not getting out of here!" Livy finally screamed because she couldn't stand it. She was gasping for breath and on the verge of tears. "Why do you keep speaking ill of me! What did I do wrong?"
Arthur was surprised.
"Well look at that, she's very impulsive and short-tempered. She's always been like that." Darla contentedly said.
"Darla, that's enough! I warned you, but you don't know how to stop, do you?" The dean intervened between them. "Go ahead. Meet me in the room after this. I'll tell you who she really is in this university, you don't dare go looking for trouble."
"Mr. Smith, who is she anyway? Why does it seem as if she is always given special privileges? Is this treatment fair to other students?" said Darla.
The dean was at his wits end and just glared at her. He was about to speak to Arthur, afraid that Arthur would be angry because of this, but before he could, Arthur spoke up,
"She's my wife. She's also the rightful owner of this university."
As soon as these words fell, everyone's faces became dazed. Especially Livy. She couldn't digest this all at once.
What? What does it mean?
Arthur continued, "And since you just started looking for trouble with my wife. Then I won't stay silent."
... to be continued ...
