A month later.
Arthur had long recovered from his sickness at that time, but until now he was still idle at home like a wrinkled old man. There was nothing he could do except to think of many plans, and sometimes zone out just to wait for Livy to come home.
True, after Arthur fell ill a month ago, Livy no longer returned to the dorm. This also fulfills her promise to Dave to take care of Arthur and prevent him from working.
Forget about Dave and Livy, Evander even worked with them and didn't give any more work reports to him.
"After all, you will leave this company. Don't take care of this shit anymore, that's a matter for your half brother now," Evander said at the time.
Matthew Finnegan, his half brother, happened to have entered the company and was undergoing an induction. He got a board position, which was tipped to become CEO after Arthur leaves. He was under the tutelage of Evander. His days will not be easy in the hands of that man.
"How's his work?" Arthur sat with one foot over the other calmly.
Evander pushed up his glasses. "Too bad. Too fvcking bad."
Evander's tone was very calm, as if the mistakes Matthew made during work didn't affect him in the least.
"But I can tell that he is so polite. Minus, he is lazy ass."
Arthur knew why it happened. Matthew was used to being spoiled by his family and everything he wanted always came true. He guessed that Matthew doesn't really want this position, he just wants to live a rich life without trying.
The maid came with hot tea and some pastries. Evander immediately took the cup and drank it. Then said, "He always asks about you."
Arthur, "..."
He never knew if Matthew had any malicious intent towards him. All this time he felt that his half brother would be just like his stepmother. But he was never really close to Matthew, he didn't know Matthew's true character. And he didn't want to know either.
"How's the factory stock?" Arthur asked another topic.
"Everything is still under control." Evander put down his cup and leaned back in the couch. "You don't have to think about that anymore. Oh yeah, where's your little wife? It's a holiday."
Evander always prevented Arthur from discussing work. He actually knew the reason, it was not because he got sick the other day, but Evander wanted him to get away from his father's company.
"She left with Sarah."
Evander's eyes fell on the earphones in Arthur's hand and sighed. "I thought you wouldn't let her go on her holiday and lock her up to yourself."
The words in the form of ridicule did not affect Arthur.
"Dave went with them, I can only monitor her from afar." Arthur answered calmly.
Evander leaned forward slightly before saying, "Then you've already told her your feelings?"
"Yeah."
Judging by how honest and straight forward Arthur was, it meant that he was very proud of this new status.
"I'm guessing she has the same feelings for you. So, you'll be serious this time, right?" Evander still didn't know what history happened between Arthur and Livy in the past, but it looks like they will have a positive ending.
Arthur again did not comment on this. Whether he was serious or not, Evander who had sharp judgment would know what he was thinking.
Of course, he was serious.
As the two of them didn't say anything else, Evander took a snack and ate it slowly. He ate very slowly and in no hurry, seemed to really enjoy the snack. The maid here knew Evander's habits and knew that he liked sweet pastries.
While munching on his food, Evander remembered something. "Gwen ... she contacted me."
Just when hearing this name, Arthur's face slowly changed.
"I heard she called off her wedding with that foreigner. She said she would come back here."
Evander saw Arthur's brow furrow.
Gwen Estelle, Arthur's ex-girlfriend, was a well-known model who has made her debut overseas. In the past, the two had been in a very serious relationship, to the point that Evander thought they were getting married.
Actually, whether Arthur was serious or not cannot be guessed by his expressions and actions alone. But Evander knew that Arthur has cared for Gwen in the past.
After a long time no see, how is Gwen's face. He almost forgot.
He checked his phone to open Gwen's social media accounts. When he saw some of the photos, he felt a little slapped. Gwen's face in every photo, why is it so familiar?
"Why did she cancel the wedding?" asked Arthur suddenly.
Evander's hand was still scrolling through the photo as he replied, "Maybe she heard you were married and changed her mind?"
"Nonsense."
"Just kidding. After all you guys broke up, it's not certain she's coming back for that reason." Evander shrugged. "But that reason can also happen in 99 percent. You just show Livy to her, then she will give up."
Arthur really hated the way Evander said that line. Maybe this was the result of being too close to Dave, so Evander's way of speaking was almost the same as that bad boy.
"Wait! Livy? Why did I just think about it?" Evander raised his voice.
"Hm?"
"Look at this." Evander showed Arthur pictures of Gwen and saw his reaction.
But Arthur only glanced at it before looking at him.
"I feel something odd about seeing Gwen's face after all this time. I feel like I've seen her before or think she's familiar." Evander narrowed his eyes, still eyeing his best friend suspiciously. "You think Gwen and Livy have something in common, don't you?"
"Stop talking nonsense." Arthur stood up.
In an instant, Evander could see the slight change in expression on Arthur's face and felt what he had said was true. He felt that Gwen and Livy had almost the same facial features. The eyes, the lips and the way they smile. Then now it became clear to him.
Is it possible that Arthur is in a relationship with Livy because he feels that Livy is similar to Gwen?
***
"Evander, you here?" Livy was surprised when she just entered the house.
Dave and Sarah followed behind her and each carried a shopping bag.
"Yeah."
Evander smiled. He didn't take his eyes off Livy in the slightest, following all of her movements. Arthur saw this and knew what his best friend was thinking.
But whatever it is, surely only Arthur knows the real facts. It was true, Gwen and Livy have similarities in their facial structure, especially the eyes and lips.
"Dave, you shop like a woman. You even have more stuff than them," Evander quipped.
"This?" Dave raised his baggy hands in dissatisfaction. "Geez! You're not coming with us. If you see those things, you'll want to buy them. To be honest, I'm still dissatisfied."
"Dave went from one distro to another. Then to perfume shops, imported bags, shoes and jackets. In the end, he almost entered all the shops in the mall." Sarah clucked tiredly and she really wanted to throw herself on the couch.
Evander did not hear the words directly. He held out his hand. "Miss, give me your things, and sit down."
Sarah immediately stuttered and she didn't feel tired anymore. Earlier on the plane when they were away on vacation, she had almost mocked Evander for being a lousy assistant. Only recently did she find out that Evander wasn't actually an assistant, but he was only acting as one on purpose. In fact the guy was actually Arthur's best friend.
And he was very rich!
It could be seen from how Amara dressed or how her personal items were not the cheap things that Sarah usually bought at the night market. It was really expensive and luxurious. She had seen all of Amara's room and knew that she was really rich.
"Ah, no need," Sarah chuckled. "I'll be home after this, I'm just dropping off Livy."
Livy herself who had sat down exhausted became confused. "Sarah, you promised to have dinner with me."
Sarah glanced at Evander and knowing he was still staring at her, looked away. "That's ... I remember that my mother bought a lot of veggies this morning. It looks like there is a party at home."
"Party?" Dave immediately perked up. "What party? Can I join?"
Seeing Sarah stutter, Evander smirked. The girl was very cute from the first time he saw her. He even knew that Sarah was now close to his sister, so he actually wanted to get to know her.
So far, anyone who approached his sister and claimed to be a friend always has ulterior motives. His sister was very innocent and quiet, sometimes very easily swayed by good actions. He just wanted to judge how Sarah was, whether she was sincere or not.
"N-Not a party like that. Not a party of women and alcohol. Um, it's traditional party, well, something like that. So boring."
In the village there are still many traditions of such parties. Sarah's family hails from the village before moving to the suburbs, but traditions usually carry on.
"A party is a party, there will be lots of food, right?" Dave was still stubborn.
"Sarah, the party won't be postponed just because you didn't come. Usually you don't care about parties like that. Besides, who else in your family is getting married? All your sisters are married, is that a party for you?" Livy said.
Sarah wanted to slap her forehead because of Livy's words. Stupidly, she couldn't stop glancing at Evander and still saw the invisible grin on his lips. Could he have a grudge against her?
"But ... but ..." Sarah didn't know what to say and what came out of her mouth was incoherent.
Without her knowing, someone had pulled her hand and she fell to sit right beside Evander.
"You look tired. Sit down first, then talk."
Sarah's face immediately turned red and sweaty. Her body instantly stiffened.
Arthur, who had seen the whole incident, saw clearly that Evander was deliberately distracting Sarah and shook his head. He asked the maid to start preparing the food.
"You take a shower first, invite your friend," he told Livy.
Livy obediently nodded, then looked at Sarah. "You're not coming home are you? I know you lied about the party at your house."
'No need to fvcking explain anymore, Livy!'
Sarah grumbled inwardly.
Quick as lightning, she got up and was beside Livy to hold her shoulder. Luckily at this point, Evander was no longer looking at her, so she felt less nervous.
Dave let out a disappointed sigh. He plopped down on the couch. "So no party? When do we party? Come on, have a party."
Nothing really bothered Dave. Moreover, Evander started to look back at Livy and felt that what he had previously thought was right. They are very similar! Until finally Livy went with Sarah to the room, Evander's gaze fell on Arthur who looked calm from beginning to end.
Evander couldn't help but think about it before he got a satisfactory answer.
"Dave, do you remember Gwen?" Evander asked this, but his gaze did not leave the expression on Arthur's face.
“What's with that …” Dave wanted to say 'fvcking whore' but he cut it out, he corrected, “What's up with that damn woman?”
Arthur glanced at Evander beckoned a warning.
But Evander still continued, "What do you think of her face? I mean, does Gwen's face look a lot like ... Livy?"
... to be continued ...
