Chapter twenty six
‘’Laura, can you hear me?’’ Drew said, shaking his mate gently.
Ever since they left the mall, Laura had been unconscious. Drew knew it was a result of the shock of seeing Alpha Jed after a very long time. She didn’t expect to see him so soon after she escaped from his clutches.
‘’Laura, please don’t leave me, please,’’ Drew begged.
His mate coughed, holding her head in pain. Due to her fast healing abilities, Laura’s wounds on her arm had healed to a considerable level. The only thing that remained there was a few scratches that would heal soon with care.
‘’Laura.’’ Drew said, sighing in relief.
Drew helped her to sit up, cradling her head gently as he placed a gentle kiss on her lips. He was beyond relieved to see that she was alright. He had quite a fright when she didn’t wake up on time and now that she was awake, his joy knew no bounds.
‘’Baby.’’ Laura grinned.
She hugged him as a lone tear slid down her eyes. The past few hours were tough on her and she knew it would be a long time before she got over it. There were different factors she needed to consider before healing could take place and this she was ready for.
‘’How do you feel?’’ Drew asked.
‘’Asides from a light headache, I feel fairly fine.’’ Laura smiled.
‘’It’ll pass love. I swear the next time I get a hold of Alpha Jed, he’ll wish he’d never been born.’’ Drew growled.
The hate he felt for her stepfather was so great it was almost choking him. He had caused a lot of emotional damage to her and he knew it might take a long while before she overcame it.
‘’We’ll fight him together, that I’m sure of.’’ Laura smiled.
‘’We will.’’ Drew smiled.
They stayed in comfortable silence for a while, each with their thoughts. Drew’s was on how to win the impending battle while Laura’s was on how to keep herself and her mate safe. She didn’t want any harm to befall them. Alpha Jed was bent on seeing that she wouldn’t be happy which was something Laura had to fight.
She wouldn’t allow him to dictate the way she lived. He had put so much fear in her and she knew that the time to end was now. She would no longer be ruled by fear of what he might do or say. There were many things she had to be thankful for and the top on the list was finding her mate. With Drew, it seemed she had finally found the solution to her silent prayers. He was everything she needed and to this day, she blessed the day she had been found by some of his pack members.
‘’What are you thinking about?’’ Drew said quietly.
The expression on her face was one of worry. He couldn’t quite place it but something was nagging at her feelings. He wished she could just open up to him and let him help her.
‘’Everything Drew. Sometimes, everything feels so uncertain like all this is a dream and I would wake up and find myself thinking about what would have been.’’ Laura sighed.
Drew perfectly understood how she felt. He had felt like that too sometimes when everything seemed to be bleak. As an Alpha, he had been faced with a lot of challenges and temptations that left him battling for his integrity. He had been faced with a lot of enemies who tested his loyalty to his pack members.
Drew knew that if he could surmount that temptation, there was nothing and absolutely nothing that he wouldn’t be able to withstand.
‘’Laura baby, I need you to listen to me. I know every day in our lives, we are plagued with uncertainty. Heck! I think that’s the main thing that we face but baby, I want you to know that since that uncertainty comes in a thousand folds, I will always be with you. That’s a fact and it's never changing.’’ Drew said.
There were unshed tears in her eyes as she thought about what her mate had said. Drew had the power to move her with words and that was exactly what he was doing. With his words, she felt relieved, better than how she felt the previous day.
With his words, she felt like she could do anything. There was absolutely nothing that he wouldn’t do to comfort her.
‘’Thank you baby for always cheering me up. It means a lot.’’ Laura said.
‘’Baby, I've told you, you don’t have to thank me. It's my duty as your mate and lover to always cheer you up. Come to think of it, if I don’t who will?’’ Drew chuckled.
‘’No one and that’s why I have you as a mate.’’ she smiled.
She kissed him, reveling in the passion that his kiss brought. She would never get used to it. Kissing him every day was always new, a brand new feeling and an emotion she couldn’t quite understand. She loved it and cherished it and of course, she longed for more.
‘’How is Alpha Nikolas?’’ Laura asked, breaking up the kiss.
‘’To be honest, he’s getting much better. His recovery was fast, all thanks to his wolf genes. Even though it was slow at first, I'm just glad that he’s getting better. Just like you said, Alpha Nikolas is a really strong man.
‘’You see. I told you so.’’ Laura chuckled.
‘’And I'm glad I listened to you. Thank you for standing by me Laura.’’ Drew smiled.
‘’I will, always. You have no reason to doubt yourself about that. My loyalty is to you and this pack and there is nothing that would change that. You’re stuck with me for life.’’ Laura grinned.
‘’I wouldn’t have it any other way,’’ Drew said.
Just then, Drew’s phone gave a small beep indicating he had a call. Glancing at the caller ID, Drew discovered it was Killian and Jack on a group call with him. He accepted the call, putting it on speaker.
‘’Yo! What’s up?’’ Drew asked.
‘’Hey man! I’m doing alright. How is Laura? we called to see how’s she’s doing.’’ Jack said.
‘’Thanks, guys. She’s doing quite alright.’’ Drew said.
‘’Hey, guys,’ ’Laura said into the phone.
‘’Pretty damsel. How are you doing?’’ Killian said.
‘’Cut it out Kill, not with my mate,’’ Drew growled.
He was very protective of Laura. She knew he was messing around with them and his growl took no heat. Laura laughed, holding her sides. She always liked to see them banter and joke with each other. It was their favorite pastime and it never seemed to get old.
‘’She loves me, that I know.’’ Killian laughed.
‘’Of course, I love you as a friend. I love you all.’’ Laura smiled.
‘’You see Drew. I told you.’’ Killian said.
‘’Yeah yeah… whatever.’’ Drew laughed.
They talked some more before Drew cut the call. He was glad they had called. Now, he and his mate are feeling much better. His friends just had that spark within them. No matter how bleak the situation might be, they always knew how to cheer each other up which was why they would forever remain his best friends.
‘’Baby, how did you and the boys become friends?’’ Laura asked.
‘’Well, it's kinda like a long story. I met Killian first before Jack. Killian was a typical spoiled rich kid but he was smart. He knew the value of hard work and he never failed to strive for what he wanted. Jack on the other hand was your typical moody guy but he was brilliant, brilliant than all of us put together.’’ Drew laughed.
He could vividly remember the time he had met his friends. That had been over 500 wolf years but it just felt like yesterday.
‘’I’m glad you met them.’’ Laura smiled.
‘’Me too.’’ Drew grinned.
