Chapter twenty eight
"Oh my gosh, Drew this house is beautiful!", Laura gushed.
They had landed in Paris an hour ago and the thirty-minute drive from the airport to their new home was one of the most beautiful rides Laura had ever experienced.
"I know, I bought it last month specifically for our use", Drew smiled.
"Wait, you've planned this all along?"Laura asked.
"Yes, it's a surprise and now, the building is ours", Drew grinned.
He led her inside, switching on the bright neon lights that bathed the whole living room in a dark blue glow.
"Oh Brian, this is amazing", Laura said.
She wrapped her hands around him, giving him a deep kiss. She poured her gratitude and emotions into that kiss, conveying how grateful she was. She could hardly believe how the Moon goddess had chosen her to be his mate when she knew how most girls struggled to get his attention.
"Now, where do you want to try out first?", Drew grinned.
"As much as I'd love to continue that with you, I need to sleep. I’m so tired’’, Laura sighed.
She made her way towards a large couch. She slumped on it, pulling her shoes which were feeling very uncomfortable.
Drew walked towards her, crouching beside her to massage her feet which had gotten swollen a bit.
"When was the last time you had a good sleep?", he asked.
Serah did a mental calculation in her head and discovered that it was a long time. She wondered what was happening and she said a silent prayer for her protection.
"About a week ago," she said.
"Don't worry my love, I'll make sure you have a good night's sleep tonight", Drew said.
He hated to see her worried, it broke his heart whenever her face showed any signs of fear or anxiety. For the rest of his life, he wanted to keep her safe without any fear whatsoever.
"Thank you, that's a relief", Laura smiled.
"You're welcome, mate. Now, can we continue from where we stopped", Drew grinned?
"Well yes, but we need to eat first", Laura laughed.
Quick as lightning, she got off the chai and ran towards the kitchen. Drew didn't know how she knew where it was, he was glad because right at that moment, his stomach rumbled, announcing that it needed food.
Drew shed his inner jacket, loosening his tie. He had every intention of cooking with his mate, it would be a proper bonding time for them and he didn't want to waste it on a tight shirt.
When he got to the kitchen, he was surprised to see that she had already shed her old clothes for a much shorter gown. Her legs were on full display as he walked toward her.
"Are you trying to seduce me mate?", he growled.
"Call it seduction or whatnot, all I know is that I'm much more comfortable in these", Laura smiled.
She moved towards him, brushing a hand over his shoulders not so innocently. Drew gripped her hands, preparing to pull her closer but she was faster as she moved quickly before he could act.
"Seducing and teasing me, Laura, you know that doesn't sit well with me", Drew said.
"I know", Laura simply said.
"Wait, how did you even change to these clothes, I never saw you go upstairs?", Drew said.
"That's the power of magic, I don't need to break a sweat if I need to get changed", Laura said, proudly.
"That's a nice trait you have there, now I'm jealous", Drew huffed.
"Don't be", Laura laughed.
"What are we having for dinner?"
Drew walked towards the huge refrigerator that stood at a corner of the huge kitchen, he pulled out a can of beer, downing the contents at a go.
"Spaghetti and meatballs, I know you love it, that's why I'm making it", Laura smiled.
"You know just what I want. My mother used to make it a lot when she was alive", Drew said.
Laura could tell that he was sad especially as he spoke about his mother, he greatly missed her and she wished she had the power to bring her back.
"You never really talk about her. I'm sorry for what happened to her", Laura said.
She moved closer to him, gripping his large hands in a gentle squeeze. She could see the rage emotions going through his eyes.
Drew leaned his head on her shoulder, taking comfort from her. Anytime he remembered his mother and especially how she died, there was a hollow feeling in his chest. No wolf or even human deserved to die the way she did.
"She was killed by some rogue wolves. She was dragged to death", Drew said.
He took a swig from the can of beer. Laura gripped the can, setting it down gently. She knew that if he continued like this, he would end up in a stupor.
"Oh my gosh, that's horrible", Serah gasped.
She knew she died but didn't know this was how she died. It was horrible what they did to her, Luna shouldn't be subjected to something like this.
"Did you ever get the person who did this?", she asked quietly.
"No... I didn't. They absconded before I could get there. My father would have gotten them but he was too weak to fight. He was poisoned with a dart that rendered him powerless to stop them", Drew said.
"Drew, look at me", Laura said.
He looked up, Laura's heart broke when she discovered that there were unshed tears in his eyes, this was hard for him to talk about and she was glad he opened up to her something she knew was difficult to do.
"I promise, we'll find who did that to your mother. It might take some time but I promise you, we will and when we do, we'll make them pay '', Laura vowed.
"Thank you but I know who was responsible for that attack", Drew rasped.
"You don't need to thank me, I'm your mate, I'm bound to you. Whatever happens to you happens to me. Your pain is my pain Drew and so is your happiness. But I must ask, who is responsible?", Laura said.
Right at that moment, Drew knew that whoever crossed his mate would be signing their death warrant. He would also do everything within his power to protect the woman he loved.
‘’Alpha Jed,’’ Drew said.
‘’I suspected that but don’t worry my love, we’ll fight him till the very end.’’ laura vowed
"Laura, this means a whole lot. Thank you", Drew said.
"We'll do this together. Cheers to us kicking butts", she laughed.
"Cheers," Drew smiled.
