Chapter forty seven
We won't be able to assess the guns and right now, we're short. If we experience any more attacks, we'll be severely hit. We just have a little over a hundred.’’ he said.
Drew knew this was bad but try as he may, he couldn't think of anything that could lead him to discover any clues that could help him.
"Okay. We'll figure it out before the end of the day" Drew said.
"Okay boss. I'll commence the dispatch of the goods to the army chief now" Jack said.
"Please do, thank you," Drew said.
"Okay. Say hi to Laura" Jack said before cutting the call.
Drew returned to the living room to meet his mate sleeping peacefully. He didn't want to disturb her and he was about to move to another area when she sat up.
"You weren't sleeping?" Drew chuckled.
He sat down on the large couch, pulling her towards him. He always loved it when her soft body was pressed to his, it reminded him that there was someone who had his best interest at heart, a mate and a confidante.
"What's the matter?" Laura asked.
She had sensed his change of mood the minute he walked in. She knew it was related to the phone call.
"Remember I told you Alpha Nikolas gave me some guns before he died?"Drew said.
"Yes, I remember".
"Well now that he's dead, the whole vault belongs to me now but Jack just called to inform me that the passcode to access the vault is wrong and it might have been tampered with. The only person who could do this is Alpha Jed" Drew said.
"Wrong? That's weird. Are you sure it's the right passcode they put in?" Laura asked.
"Yes, it's the right one. It's really weird because this has never happened before and I have no idea how he got access to it" Drew said with a confused expression on his face.
"Is there anything remotely related to the passcode, anything that could be helpful?"
Drew thought long and hard about it and like a flash, he remembered a hint. It was the date his parents had their unveiling. According to Alpha Nikolas, that day was a special one in their life.
"Yes, the date of my parents' unveiling," he said.
"Bingo! That's your answer" Laura said.
"But how can you be so sure?"
"I just know it, Drew, I'm sure of it".
"I love you, you know that" he smiled.
"I know, heck you tell me that every day." Laura smiled.
"And I will never stop loving you. You're like a drug to me, one I need to take every day of my life." he smiled.
"Drew, what's with all the compliments?’’ Laura laughed.
"Is it a bad thing if I shower all the love on my mate?’’ he smiled.
"No and I love it," she grinned.
"I never intend to".

"Baby, I have to travel next week,’’ Drew said.
True to Laura's words, the passcode for the vault was the day of his parent's unveiling. Drew had mixed up the date with his father's birth date which resulted in the mix-up.
"Really? Where?" Laura asked, mixing a bowl of batter.
She planned on making cookies later since Drew had never been quiet about it. He's been ranting all day long about it and Laura had to promise him she'll make it.
"Paris. It's on business though, I have something important to take care of.’’ he said.
"Okay, how long would you be staying for?" she asked.
"Three days,'' he said.
"I'll be alone for three whole days, I don't think I'll be able to cope with that.’’ Laura sighed.
Drew walked towards her, setting that bowl of batter on the kitchen counter. He lifted her, placing her on the counter as he stood in between her legs.
"I'll miss you honey but it's something I need to take care of,’’ Drew said.
He leaned in, planting a soft kiss on her lips. Laura drew him in, effortlessly locking him in her grasp. She gripped his shirt, running her hands all over his body.
"Someone's horny.’’ he chuckled.
"Always for you. Now are you going to do something about it or not.’’ Laura laughed.
"And when have I ever said no to that,’’ Drew said, leaning in.
Laura was now flat on her back on the cold kitchen counter as she stared up at him. His eyes glistened as he stared at her body.
"Oh Drew, cat's got your tongue.’’ she chuckled.
"No, you got my tongue. You're a fucking damsel Laura, I don't know how I got lucky with you.’’ he smiled.
"Well, you're lucky. Now, enough talking and more action.’’ Laura said.
She drew him to her, slamming her lips on his. She moaned when she felt his hands grip her waist possessively, he stroked her inner thighs taking her over the edge.
"Clothes off.’’ he growled.
He tore her shirt, effortlessly freeing her breast from her bra. He cupped one, drawing her nipple in his mouth.
"Drew.’’ she gasped.
Drew made quick work of the rest of her clothes and his before slamming into her. Laura moaned at the pleasure radiating through her body and she sighed in bliss when he brought her over the edge.
"Let's go." he smiled.
Together, they rode through their release and Laura knew if she died at that minute, it was going to be a happy death.
"I think you should stay here with me. Don't travel.’’ Laura sighed.
"I hate to leave you honey but I must, it's important,’’ Drew said.
He helped her to her feet, handing over her clothes. They dressed up silently as Laura resumed mixing the batter which was soon ready to be baked.
"Okay but you promise to come back after three days?" she said.
"I promise. Love, did Alpha Jed or his son call you ever since then?’’ Drew asked.
"No, they haven't. Did you get anything on them?" Laura asked.
Drew knew she was anxious but at that moment, there was nothing he could do. Alpha Jed and his entire pack were prime suspects and until they defeated them in a war that was brewing, the battle was going to go on.
"No. Which is another reason why I have to go to Paris, I might have a clue on what their deal is,’’ he said.
"Okay but please darling, whatever you do be careful. I don't trust them anymore and I have a feeling that they might strike soon.’’ Laura said.
Drew walked closer to her, drawing her to him. He wanted to comfort her as much as possible but he knew that her mind was a whirlwind of different emotions all threatening to burst through her anger.
"I'll be fine darling, trust me. Don't worry about me. Like I said before, I won't die without your permission.’’ he smiled.
Laura chuckled, kissing him gently as she watched him leave. She was going to miss him but she had to buff up and stop being a baby.
He left soon and Laura was left alone in the huge mansion that seemed bigger now that he had left. She desperately wished for something to do but everything she looked at didn't seem to intrigue her.
Just then, her phone gave a sharp beep indicating she had a call. She swiped the screen which showed that it was her long-time friend calling.
"Oh my gosh! Is this you?" Laura gasped.
"In the flesh darling, in the flesh," he said.
"Where have you been? I mean, it's been ages".
"I've been here and there trying to make ends meet. How about you darling, I hear you're the future Luna and your packs Delta. Proud of you?" he chuckled.
"Yes, I am. It happened all of a sudden, I still can't believe it myself but it's true" Laura smiled.
Sometimes when she thought about it, she couldn't believe it was Drew's. It was a heady feeling, one that she was proud of.
"I'm happy for you baby girl and I'm so proud. This is huge and you should thank your stars for being lucky" he said.
"I'm not lucky, I'm blessed. To have my mate by my side, it's something I never envisioned happening probably in years to come.’’ Laura said.
"I'm glad it came now. You're a good person and I'm glad you met someone like him".
"I know. Are you back in New York?" Laura asked.
"No, far away from it. I don't plan on coming anytime soon, I have some stuff to take care of.’’ he said.
"But if I might ask, what are you really into,’’ Laura said.
"I wish I could tell you but I can't. The nature of my job won't allow me to, and if the people I work for find out that I told someone about what I do, it could spell trouble for me,’’ he said.
"I hope you don't kill people for a living.’’ Laura gasped.
"Damn no, hell no. I won't ever do something like that, Laura you know me so well,’’ he said.
Laura heaved a huge sigh of relief, she couldn't deal with it if she discovered that one of her close friends killed people for a living.
"I'm relieved. Please, don't ever do something like that.’’ Laura said.
"I won't. You know me so well Laura, you know what I can do.’’ he said.
Laura smiled because now her heart was at rest.
