Chapter sixty
"You're frightened man, stop it,'' Jack said.
"I'm trying to but I can't help it especially when I'll be heading the whole five kingdoms soon. I wonder how my dad did it.'' Drew said.
"The same way you're going to do it and even better.'' a voice said.
The trio looked in the direction of the voice and discovered it was the moon goddess who appeared in a ball of light.
They bowed immediately, paying reverence to her. Drew didn't expect her after a very long time of her absence but he was glad she was here to give him all the motivation he needed.
"Welcome moon goddess,'' Drew said.
"Please, get up. All of you.'' the moon goddess said.
They rose to their feet as they waited patiently for what she had to say. Drew knew she wasn't just here for coming sake but was here to give them an important message.
"I'm very glad and proud of all of you for how far you've come. The challenges you all faced were a big task but above all, I'm thankful that you stuck together even when things grew a bit more difficult. There would be more challenges as they are part of our everyday life but I want to implore you to never lose hope.'' she said.
"Thank you, moon goddess, we will adhere to all you have said,'' Drew said.
"And to you Drew, you're now the leader of the whole pack, and a lot of responsibilities will be on you but never forget to hold your mate by your side in all your doings,'' she said.
"I won't forget this,'' Drew said.
"I'll be with you my children and remember to always call on me anytime you need help,'' she said.
They watched her vanish into thin air as quietly as she came. Drew was grateful for her words and he vowed to hold her words to heart.
"I'm the moon goddess's biggest fan.'' Killian gushed.
"We all are,'' Jack said.
They walked towards the building where the coronation would take place and they were quite surprised to see a lot of people already there.
"I see Benita giving you a wave.'' Killian chuckled.
"I wish I could send her out of here,'' Drew said.
"Well, you can't. She's a pack member and it's taboo if you do.''Jack said.
"I know which makes it all the more complicated,'' Drew said.
"You'll learn to deal with it.'' Killian chuckled.
He made his way over to the huge altar where he would say his vows while holding the big book of wolves. Drew knew that book was as sacred as the very building he stood for. The building was used as a coronation house and this was where all the wolves of the past were crowned.
"Can we all be settled please.'' an elder said.
Drew stood beside him as he faced the crowd. Wolves of different breeds and packs were all gathered but were all in their human form for fear of the government hunters raiding the building.
"Can the mate please be present.'' the elder said.
Laura walked from the opposite direction. In all his life, Drew had never seen someone as beautiful as she was. As she walked toward him in her cream-colored chiffon gown, Drew had the inkling that it was an angel who appeared before him.
"Hi.'' Laura smiled.
They were together now, almost touching distance but Drew dared not touch her for fear of breaking the rules.
"When this ceremony is over, I want you to remain in this dress,'' he said.
"Why?" Laura asked.
"Because I'm going to fuck you in it,'' Drew said.
Laura giggled, covering it with a light cough. The elder looked at her with a hint of amusement on his face. Laura tried to look innocent but she knew she failed as the elder smiled before facing the crowd.
"Now that we have all parties involved, let the coronation begin.'' he boomed.
********************************
"Do you solemnly swear that you would uphold the virtues and honor this pack is based on?'' the elder said.
Drew nodded, placing a hand on the big book of wolves while the other was raised towards the sky, in an upward motion.
"Yes, I do.' 'he said.
"And do you promise to treat justice with patience, equality, and with all fairness?'' the elder said.
"Yes, I will to the best of my abilities,'' Drew said.
"Very well. Now, to your mate.'' the elder said.
He walked towards Laura, holding the big book of wolves in both palms. At that moment, Laura wasn't scared as she was that morning.
"Do you Laura solemnly swear to stand by your mate in all times, either good or bad, in sickness and in health.'' the elder said.
"Yes, I will,'' Laura said.
"And do you swear as the new Delta to always temper justice with mercy at all times.'' the elder said.
"Yes, I will,'' Laura said.
The elder nodded before walking towards the middle of the altar. There was dead silence throughout the hall as all attention was on the trio who stood at the sacred altar.
"Having obeyed all laws and jurisdiction present in the sacred book of wolves, I pronounce you Drew, adopted son and friend of Alpha Nikolas as the Alpha and chief commanding officer of the five packs. I also pronounce you Laura, Delta, and queen of the five packs. May your reign be long.'' the elder boomed.
At the pronunciation, thousands of wolves who were present howled into the night. Drew was proud of himself for having accomplished this against all odds. He took Laura's hands in his, giving them a gentle squeeze as a sign of appreciation to her for standing by him throughout everything. Laura did the same and was very happy he stood by her despite all that her stepfather and his son tried to do.
The elder proceeded to raise the sacred bowl of water for which both of them would wash their hands as a sign of honesty and transparency.
When this was done, the elders quietly took their leave. Their job there was done, the rest of the ceremony will be filled with drinking and marrying.
Alpha Drew came down from the altar with his Laura hand in hand to the loud cheers of the people.
"Congratulations my man,'' Killian said.
He hugged him before kissing Laura's hands. There were a lot of cheers and music coming from the loudspeakers at that far corner of the hall.
"Where's Jack?" Drew asked.
He looked around but he couldn't find his other best friend. It wasn't easy looking around for him especially when there was a huge throng of people in the hall.
"He's outside talking with the chief security man,'' Killian said, quietly.
Drew could tell that he didn't want anyone to eavesdrop on their conversation but he knew that it wouldn't be possible as the noise from the hall alone was enough.
"Why, what's going on?" Laura asked.
She couldn't help it if something was wrong, especially on a day like this. She knew about all the threats from her stepfather and Drew had already gotten as a result of the coronation and her biggest fear was an attack on a day like this.
"There's been suspicions of an attack here. We don't know how and when this attack would take place but we're not taking anything for granted. Jack has given an order that the snipers should be doubled.'' Killian said.
"Okay, great. That's good, please keep an eye on that and keep me posted the minute something else comes up.'' Drew said.
"Will do. Both of you, enjoy yourselves I'll go help Jack outside.'' Killian said.
Drew watched him walk away as a new feeling of dread crept into his stomach. He didn't know when this attack would occur but he wasn't going to take any chances especially when it came to protecting his pack.
He led Laura away towards the throng of people. Laura chuckled, loving the way he was always so protective of her. Benita had tried to congratulate them but Drew shunned her, leading Laura away.
"Drew, you shouldn't have made it so obvious.'' Laura chuckled.
"I don't bloody care. She can think about anything she wants, all I know is that I'm not going to leave you in her midst.'' Drew said.
"Why would I even want to be in her midst? You're my mate, my Alpha now and the only place where I want to be is in your presence.'' Laura smiled.
Drew kissed her, running his tongue on her lower lip. He didn't care if anyone was looking at them, all he cared about was that he was with his mate, the woman he loved.
"You should get a room.'' a voice snapped.
"And you should get lost,'' Laura said.
She didn't care about who spoke, not bothering to turn around to check for the source of the voice.
"And you call me the fiend.'' Drew chuckled.
"You're always the fiend.'' Laura laughed.
Just then, Jack came running in with Killian by his side. One look at their face proved to Drew that something was wrong or about to go wrong.
"What's the problem?" Drew said.
"You have to leave now?'' Jack said.
"What's the matter? Why?" Laura croaked.
"A thousand of Jed's men are heading here. We've called for the evacuation of the guests to a nearby building. You guys have to leave now.'' he said.
"I'm not going, I'll stand here and fight Jed. You guys should know me better, I never run away from a fight.'' Drew thundered.
Just then, the unmistakable sound of gunfire rattled the building then the battle began.
