In terms of ecological and environmental protection, so far, the high-quality clean electricity energy generated by the Three Gorges Power Station is equivalent to saving 430 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.169 billion tons, with significant energy-saving and emission-reduction benefits.

In the next 20 years, China Power Investment Group Corporation will invest one or two trillion yuan to build more large-scale reservoirs and hydropower stations.

Liu Tao's big plan was that by 2010, the total scale of China's hydropower development would reach 300,000 WM, and by 2020, it would reach 600,000 WM, and the utilization rate of water resources in the jurisdiction would reach 95%, so that the hydropower generation would reach 1.2 to 1.4 trillion kWh in 2010, and 2.4 to 2.8 trillion kWh in 2020.
