Chapter 15
POV Eric
Pulling up to the house cars lined the driveway and half a block in either direction. Some I recognized but most I didn’t.
“How many elders are there?” I asked Alpha Aiden.
“There is five who hold places on the board but twenty total. Luna called everyone together for ideas and to make sure the whole pack understands the situation we could be putting ourselves in.” He replied.
No sooner had we gotten out of the car then Miss Evens approached us. “I have information on the pendant, but you aren’t going to like it. Can we speak in private before the meeting?” She walked in the house and headed for the office before even getting a response.
I went to head upstairs but Alpha Aiden grabbed my attention and motioned for me to follow them.
In the office Miss Evens had already spread out several books across the desk in preparation. Miss Evens has never been a cheerful person but when she turned to face us her expression was more grim than usual.
“You’ve figured out what pack it came from I’m guessing.” Alpha Aiden stated sitting down at his desk and looking over the various documents.
“Yes!” Miss Evens began pacing and talking faster with every word she spoke. “It was incredibly hard to track down. They went extinct or at least we thought they did. No one has heard anything about them for hundreds of years, we all just assumed they were gone.”
“I’m not following.” Alpha Aiden said leaning back in his chair.
Miss Evens placed both her hands palm down on the desk, leaning over she whispered. “The first pack.”
“What?” I asked. More confused than before.
“You see, Abigail paired the Lycans with humans in hopes of bringing back some of their humanity. In the second or third generation, the documents aren’t super clear but there were two Alpha brothers. Both paired with a human and both Lycan. Now up until this all Lycans had rejected their human mates but one of the brothers had become infatuated with human he was paired with. It’s a common misconception that our wolves are paired with one another in fact our wolf is paired with our mate's human counterpart.” Miss Evens paused to suck in a huge breath.
“I still don’t understand where you are going with this.” Alpha Aiden said.
“A huge war broke out between the two and it split the pack in two. The pack of the brother who chose to be with his human mate are what most werewolves are descendants of. The other brother and his pack vanishing besides a few sightings here and there which are dismissed as rumors and legends. We believed Lycans were all but extinct. This pendant is from the first pack, the pure blood Lycans. That’s why I didn’t recognize it, this symbol hasn’t been seen in at least 300 years!” Miss Evens collapsed into the chair beside mine.
I looked at her with my mouth open stunned for a minute. “Okay so first of all Lycans are real?” I asked in disbelief.
Miss Evens looked at me, sitting up straight and with a small laugh she said, “You’re a werewolf, an entire other being lives inside you and you can turn into a massive dog at will. Yet you find it hard to believe that lycans exists. You think you can draw a line on what you believe is possible when most of the world doesn’t believe you’re real. Most of our history is written as myths and legends in case it fell into the wrong hands. Really, young Alpha. If that is what you have taken from my classes, then I have failed you.”
“Alpha Eric from now on Miss Evens.” Alpha Aiden corrected.
Her smile deepened. “Of course, my apologies Alpha.” She then leaned over and bumped me playfully with her shoulder.
“I’m sorry Miss Evens, I have always been under the impression that you don’t like me.” I blurted out.
Braxton who had been silent up to know burst out laughing. “When did you grow a pair?”
Before I could say anything Miss Evens also started laughing. “Ohhh Alpha Eric, I have always adored you, you have your mothers light inside you and your father's determination. You could be the greatest Alpha this pack has ever known. I expect more from you because I know you are capable of more than most. Although I respect you as an Alpha, I will never cater to you or lie to you. Even if the truth is uncomfortable or hurts your feelings. The kind of Alpha you become is up to you!”
Just then there was a knock at the door before it opened and mom appeared. “Everyone has arrived, we are waiting on you.”
“Thank you love, we will be right there.” Alpha Aiden replied. With a quick glance at the books and papers strung across his desk he looked over at Miss Evens. “Gather these things and we will present them to the board.”
“Are you sure?” She asked.
“Yes, we aren’t going to keep this a from them, we have to decide where to go from here. It’s only fair that they have all the information we do.” He replied. Grabbing the pendant from the desk he made his way to the conference room.
As I helped Miss Evens pack up everything to move into the other room, she stopped me. Placing her hands on my shoulders she turned me to look at her. “Just follow your instincts, Alpha.” With that she gave me a wink and left the room.
“She’s acting weird.” Braxton said with a huff.
“She’s always been weird, but I have no idea what to do with her being nice. It’s creeping me out.” I said out loud, as much to myself as Braxton.
Walking in and sitting down next to the Alpha and Luna I was surprised, I only recognized a few people here. Miss Evens, Beta Darien and Dr. Stevenson of course but the rest I had only seen in passing.
Alpha Aiden stood and gained everyone’s attention. “I’d like to start this meeting with an announcement. As I’m sure most of you have heard Eric had his first shift. He has proven himself ready to begin training to take my place. He will be at Luna and I’s side and involved in all pack matters from now on.”
A short tank of a man two seats to my right slapped his palm down on the table. “Alpha, you can’t be serious?”
