Chapter 30 – Caden
I watch as the Faeries work on Grace, covering her body in healing lotions. Sunny had led us through the forest for an hour, the path taking us closer towards the lodge before we came to a cave hidden by vines. After another twenty minutes of walking, we were soon greeted by the Faerie Princess Airia. He pointed ears and moon white skin stood out amongst the growing flowers and colourful crystals deep in the cave. When she saw the injured Grace in my arms, her first instinct was to rush Grace and I into a room where maids had us bathe before a silk robe was donned on me and Grace was whisked away to be treated. I nearly went crazy when I realized Grace was missing again and would have caused a war if Sunny hadn’t appeared when she did, telling me to follow her to see Grace. Now I sit in a soft chair, my eyes never leaving her face. Her silver hair has been washed clean; the strands braided out of the way. Her maids are making sure to keep their movements light and as they massage the cream into her skin, I watch as some of the bruises slowly fade.
“She is brave, our Silver Fur.” A musical voice calls out, Princess Airia coming into the room.
“She is also loyal and deserves the same loyalty and truth, Caden.” She continues, running a hand through her cyan hair as her teal eyes look at me with a glare.
“You know who I am Airia, it isn’t the first time we met.” I sigh out, glaring back at the fae.
“This is true. But Grace doesn’t know. Don’t waste this chance by keeping secrets.” With that, the Princess leaves and the maids soon following leaving only Grace and I in the room. I watch the slow rise and fall of her chest as she sleeps, her face so calm and peaceful. She’s been through hell these last few hours and I can only imagine what those Ragers did.
from her pack and draping it over her.
"So." Amelia states, leaning against the doorway as her blue eyes watch her friend.
"You and Grace?" She quickly adds as I turn to face the blonde with a small smile. I can tell by the protective tone in her words that this will be long conversation. One that makes me nervous for some reason.
"There is no me and Grace. Not yet anyways." I answer carefully, not knowing what else to say.
“She wants to date me after the Run and I want to make her mine.” I continue, looking back to the sleeping girl, a small smile on her face. Grace must be having some really nice dreams.
“Good because if you think you're going to mate her right away you're wrong. I will kill you if you even-“
"Amelia” I cut her off, holding a finger to my lips as her voice slowly grew louder that a frown appeared on Grace’s face. She looks away sheepishly, guilt visible on her face as I let out a sigh.
“I have been alone with the two of you on more than one occasion. You know I am not that Kind of man.” I sigh out, a little hurt from the distrust but also understanding where Amelia is coming from. Grace and she are inseparable, chosen sisters as they have put it. I still remember how Grace’s wolf felt standing above me, snarling because she thought I was a threat to Amelia just days ago.
"Caden...I'm..." Guilt is laced in her voice and I smile as she tries to apologize. I know Amelia means no harm.
"Look, I told you I wanted to be with someone I love when we first met. I mean it. I want to date Grace and get to know her more. She deserves a man that will love and protect her." I chuckle out, standing from my chair and walking to Amelia, pulling her in for a hug.
"I’m sorry Caden." Amelia's voice is small as she returns my hug, her own sigh escaping from her lips.
"Don't worry, I understand how protective you are of her and it's the same way she feels about you. You two are sisters whether you share the same blood or not. I just hope you can give us your blessing." I reassure her, getting a giggle from Amelia.
“You already have it. Just promise me you will make her happy.”
“I promise you I will do everything to make Grace happy and be a man she can rely on.” I promise her, letting Amelia pull away from me and watching her walk to Grace’s bed side. She plants a soft kiss on Grace’s cheek, whispers something into her ear before walking back towards me.
“Get some sleep Caden. She won’t be waking up till tomorrow morning.” She smiles out, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“I will. Good night.”
“Good night.” Once again it is just Grace and I in the room, her scent reaching me, tantalizing me. I have grown to love this scent, crave smelling it, and now with Grace agreeing to a date I can become addicted to it. With a smile, I make my way towards the bed debating on whether or not to climb in and pull Grace into my arms or return to my room. In the end against my better judgement, I climb into the bed and carefully wrap my arms around the sleeping girl I have grown feeling for. I watch her sleep, breathing in her scent and listen to the steady beating of her heart. The last thought running through my mind as sleep takes over is that I can get used to sleeping beside her.
