Chapter 3: The Adventures Guild.
Chapter 3: The Adventures Guild.
I woke feeling refreshed from all the events that happened yesterday. After I finished getting ready, I went downstairs to the tavern in the inn. I grabbed some breakfast to take back to my room because I still had time before Mari and Theo would come over to pick me up.
As I ate my breakfast, Lina, who had just woken up, came over and sat with me at the table. Now that we had some time alone after everything that happened yesterday, I had a few questions I hoped she could answer.
“Hey Lina, I have some questions about what happened yesterday.”
After she finished eating the piece of bread she tore from the plate, she sat at the table. She looked up at me and said, "Ask away. I'm your familiar master. If I can help, I'll do my best to fulfill your request.”
“Yesterday, while I was running, words popped into my head. Suddenly, I started moving faster and felt stronger than I thought I was capable of.”
Lina in response to my question clapped her hand and began to say. “Those are [Skills] that master knows and is able to use.”
“[Skills]? I don’t remember learning anything about that before I got here.”
Lina explained that [Skills] come from the [Worlds Record], and people can use them as long as they meet the learning requirements. She added that the Worlds Record stores knowledge created by people in this world, such as [Skills] and [Magic spells].
Lina finished her explanation by saying, "Knowing the Goddess, she would have given you some basic [Skills] and [Magic] to help on your journey."
“How can I figure out what [Skills] and [Magic] that I have access to?”
Lina then explains, "Masters can summon their [Inner Tome], a personal collection of [Skills] and [Magic] that only they can see and use."
She continues, "It's similar to when you made the symbol in your hand. Now, imagine how you see your [Skills] and [Magic] inside yourself."
Following her instruction I focused and tried to imagine a way for me to see my [Skills] and [Magic]. The first thing that came to mind was the statuses windows that always appeared in front of characters who get transported to another world in the mangas I have readed.
Responding to my thought process a similar statues window screen appeared before me.
[Inner Tome]
Passives:
[Goddess Bless](Blessed by the Goddess to travel freely in her land), [Battle Instinct](The ability to fight with purely out of instinct and intuition)
Skills:
[Acceleration](Makes the user lighter and twice as fast), [Bulls Strenght](Grants the user enchanted strength), [Aura Blade](Coats the users blade making it sharper and more durable)
Magic:
[Fire bolt](User launches a small ball of fire towards a direction), [Ice shard](User launches a small razor sharp piece of ice towards a direction)
After looking through the screen in front of me I imagined closing the window like I would an application on my computer and the screen disappeared.
“So master we're you able to see your [Inner tome]?” Lina asked
“Yes thank you Lina with this I can kinda gauge my abilities”
“From the looks of it I still have a long way to go before I can consider myself powerful.”
Lina then remarked “The Goddess could only give you very little since the rules that govern her restrict her from interfering with the world too much.”
“I understand. That just means I have to gain [Skills], [Magic], and experience on my own to insure that I live up to the responsibility she gave me.”
“Yup that's right master and the best way to that right now is from the Adventures guild” said as she flew towards me and sat on my shoulder.
To get stronger, I need to check out what the Adventurers Guild has to offer. Luckily, Mari and Theo will introduce me to the guild, so I can learn how they work. While waiting for them, Lina and I kept having breakfast and made small talk.
After a while, there was a knock on my door, followed by a voice saying, "Hey Akira, it's me, Mari."
When I heard the noise, I opened the door, and Mari and Theo were standing outside.
“Morning you two.”
“Morning and sorry we came so early.” Mari replied with a bright smile.
After greeting them I let them in my room. Then we discussed today's plan for heading to the Adventures guild. Theo informed me that they had reported yesterday's events and that the guild representatives were eager to meet me.
“That sounds promising.”
“This should make my plans for today go more smoothly than I thought.”
Mari asked, "What are your plans for today, if I may ask?"
I then informed them of my plans to join Adventures guild. To further my knowledge and experience and say how I was still pretty much a newcomer when it came to combat and [Magic].
“Then you're just like us then.” Theo said with a smile after hearing my explanation.
Mari then added “Me and Theo are also newcomers to being adventures.” She continued with “Right now we are just [Fledgeling Rank] the lowest rank in the Guild.”
Theo said, "Mari and I are from the same village and wanted to become adventurers, so we traveled here to make that happen."
They told me about growing up together in the same village. When the village was attacked, an adventurer passing through helped save it. Inspired by that, they both decided to become adventurers. Once they came of age, they traveled to Edoldon to begin their journey.
After talking for a while, we made our way to the Adventurers Guild building in the city. When we arrived, I saw a large, ornate structure with people coming and going. Inside, the place was crowded and bustling. The air buzzed with the sounds of lively conversations on a variety of topics.
Mari led us to a part of the building where a sign reading "Guild Reception" hung above a counter crowded with uniformed people handling adventurer inquiries.
A woman in uniform greeted us with a smile as we reached her counter. She said, "Welcome to the Adventures Guild. I've heard a few things about Miss Akira."
“Allow me to introduce I’m Ornella, a receptionist for the guild. I'm the one in charge of Mari and Theo.” Said the Women.
“It’s nice to meet you as well Miss Ornella.”
“Oh just call me Ornella. I don't like to be too formal.” Ornella said with a smile.
“Then just call me Akira then.”
We spent some time discussing what happened yesterday, and when I got the chance, I mentioned the idea of joining the Adventures Guild.
“Oh is that so that works out perfectly since it was going to be difficult to compensate you since you were not part of the Guild.” Ornella said.
“I was not really looking for compensation since I helped out because I wanted to.”
"I understand, but it would reflect poorly on the Adventurers Guild if we didn't properly reward you for helping with guild matters," Ornella said. She explained it was about maintaining the Guild's reputation.
“I understand then if I can become an Adventurer that would be more than enough.”
I thought that suggestion was going to be more than enough to work out for both me and Guild but then Ornella gave me a look and shook her head no.
"Unfortunately, we can't just let you be an Adventurer. We can only offer some money as a reward. But if you still want to be an Adventurer, you need to pass our test. Is that alright with you?" Ornella explained as she told me about the rules of the Guild.
“If you can’t then I’ll be fine taking the test and the reward money.”
“Okay then since it's a short notice you only need to pass a practical exam.” Ornella said.
Then with the look of remembering something she smiled and excused herself for a moment. Then she came back to us with some paper.
"Follow me," I told one of the instructors to meet us in the practical test room. Fortunately, someone was free to help at that moment. Ornella smiled as she led us to a room further inside.
The room was open, with training dolls and weapons stored in the corner. We waited there for the instructor to arrive. After a few moments, a rough-looking man with messy brown hair in plain clothes appeared. He carried what looked like a jug. As he walked toward us, he took a drink from it and wiped his mouth with his sleeve.
“So you're the newbie that I’m supposed to help with the practical exam?” He said and as he talked his breath reeked of alcohol.
“Yes I’m Akira.”
Trying not to show fear, I gathered all my courage to appear confident. I couldn’t behave the way I used to back in my world. If I did, I wouldn’t be able to help Sayaka or even myself. So I chose to act more confident, hoping I wouldn’t seem like a pushover anymore.
"Hmph, that's a good look you have there, but no need to be so tense," the man said, then introduced himself. "I'm Luke, and I'll be in charge of your practical test."
