Chapter Ten
Chapter Ten
Early the next morning, when Bella came down to the living room, all the guests had left, and there was no sign of Pearl and Max either. She felt extremely tired from the previous night, so she didn't want to care about anything except... no one had cleaned up the living room where last night's party took place.
Before she was a battlefield strewn with debris. This wasn't the first time Max had thrown a party at home, but in the past, Bella would always wake up early to clean up and consider it her duty. She didn't want her husband to be tired because he had to go to work early in the morning.
"These people are such a bunch of irresponsible players," Bella muttered softly. Among them, everyone disliked her, so at the party yesterday, everyone ignored her as the host.
Therefore, Bella didn't want to burden herself. She freshened up, and put on makeup to look beautiful, as she had an important task to do today. Her black form-fitting dress accentuated her seductive curves and her long legs, all without being too revealing. She wore simple snowflake-shaped earrings and a matching necklace. Looking at herself in the mirror, Bella was extremely satisfied. Seeing herself at this moment, she couldn't understand why she used to only wear silly and outdated outfits.
"I should buy a few more outfits. I should get rid of all those old clothes," Bella sighed as she looked at the clothes in the closet. She hadn't realized that the clothes in the closet had been out of style for a long time.
Confidently, Bella hailed a taxi to the company. The receptionist saw her and immediately greeted her.
"Miss Bella, are you here to see Mr. Cooper? Do you need me to let him know you're here?" The receptionist greeted her warmly. But her warmth didn't make Bella happy.
She politely said, "From now on, please call me Bella. I'm not here to see Mr. Cooper today, but to meet someone more important."
The receptionist was a bit surprised by Bella's words. She didn't understand why Bella referred to her husband as 'Mr. Cooper' instead of 'Max' as usual.
"Don't worry about me, just continue with your work. The person I'm meeting is on their way." Bella spoke politely and warmly.
A moment later, the person Bella was meeting arrived. It was the head of the HR department Lee Ethan. As soon as he saw Bella, he was momentarily taken aback. He knew Bella's identity, but he had never been so strongly impressed before. The woman before him was the same Bella that everyone in the company was talking about.
"Nice to meet you, Bella William. Please call me Lee. I am the head of the Human Resources department," Lee introduced with enthusiasm, feeling delighted to encounter a beauty in the morning at work. He felt that today was definitely a lucky day.
"Thank you for emailing me," Bella said. Not wanting everyone in the company to know that she was Max's wife and the daughter of Chairman William, she had used a fake name and identity to send in her job application. Apart from the name and age, all the achievements in her CV were genuinely hers.
Until this morning, Lee had called her in for an interview, but to her surprise, as soon as he heard her voice, he recognized that she was Chairman William's daughter. Unable to deny it, she was forced to admit the truth.
In his private office, Lee brewed tea and asked, "Why did you have to use a fake name? If you had just said the word, I would have definitely arranged a good job position for you."
Bella chuckled softly and shook her head. It was precisely for this reason that she didn't want to. If she had genuinely stated her intention to work here, the company would undoubtedly become chaotic out of curiosity, and Max would find out as well. The key was that she didn't want Max to know.
"Give me a new position, and I will work like any new employee. Also, don't tell anyone about this. Even though I'm Chairman William's daughter, I'm just a regular person who has to work," Bella said. She wanted to prove her capabilities step by step rather than relying on her father's help. Her mistake was getting married right after graduation, and for the past three years, she had only stayed at home waiting for her husband and getting lost in the kitchen.
Hearing this, Lee was surprised. He thought that if he were Bella, he would never do this as it would be quite time-consuming.
"If that's what you want, it's quite simple. The position you applied for is in the Marketing department, are you sure?" Lee raised an eyebrow, as Bella didn't have any remarkable achievements, so he didn't have a strong impression of her, despite her being Chairman William's daughter.
Bella decisively nodded, "Yes, that's right. When can I start working?" She knew that Lee's response meant that he approved of her taking that position. While at home, she often kept herself updated on the company's information, so she was quite aware of the vacant positions that needed to be filled.
"So let's start from today onwards, right now I will call the head of the Marketing department here. She will be the one to directly guide you in the future," Lee said. At this moment, in front of him, she was not the daughter of Chairman William but just a new employee. This was also the way Bella wanted others to perceive her.
Not everyone in the company knew Bella's true identity, mostly those in higher positions who tended to pay more attention to someone's background because it benefited them.
The head of the Marketing department was a woman named Diana, very beautiful, with a mixed Asian-European appearance. She was also very friendly with Bella. After providing instructions on all the tasks Bella needed to do, she quickly returned to her own work.
Before coming here, Bella worried that she wouldn't be able to fit in or that people would ignore her. But contrary to those thoughts, her colleagues were enthusiastic about her arrival. They even wanted to organize a small party to welcome her after work.
Since Bella started working later than Max, he would leave for the company before her and return home earlier than her. She would usually prepare dinner and wait for him to come home. So, Max had no idea that his wife was working in the same company as him. In fact, he was preoccupied with dating Pearl and didn't notice that Bella had been working for a few days.
On Bella's side, she also didn't want her husband to know that she was working in the same company. Not because she wanted to catch him and her friend being intimate like before, but simply because she wanted to work and didn't want to be as naive as she used to be.
"Bell, I'm heading out," Max placed a kiss on Bella's forehead before getting ready for work, something he did almost every morning. After three years of marriage, almost every morning he showed such affection.
While outwardly accepting the kiss, Bella inwardly cursed and ridiculed someone as rotten as Max – greedy and deceitful. Max always portrayed himself as a good husband, showering his wife with affection. That's why nobody, including Bella, knew about his affair until the day she unexpectedly came to the company.
After ten minutes, Bella also took a taxi to the company. Time passed quickly; it had been a month since she started. Bella's capabilities were quite impressive, so after just a month, Diana, the department head, proposed her for several projects.
"Bella, take this document to Director Cooper's office to get his signature. The project can only be considered approved and authorized with Mr. Cooper's signature." Diana handed Bella the documents after ending a call. "I have to meet an important client now, so please help me."
Bella gladly agreed. She knew where Max's private office was, but she pretended not to know and asked a colleague. The twentieth floor was reserved for the directors and rooms for important documents, as well as private spaces for meetings with partners and significant clients.
Compared to other floors, this floor was much quieter and emptier. Bella walked to Max's private office, knowing that working in the same company would inevitably lead to encounters. This was unavoidable, but she still felt a bit anxious and nervous about Max's reaction when he saw her.
