Chapter Fifty
Chapter Fifty
Bella pale upon hearing Levi speak like that. She was indeed very distressed and bitter to be betrayed by two people she trusted at the same time, but she never thought of taking their lives. She just wanted them to know the pain she had to endure and make them pay for what they did to her.
"If you're crazy, be crazy alone, don't drag me into it," Bella retorted coldly.
Levi seemed somewhat disappointed. "Ha-... I thought you'd do something more exciting. Rest assured, even if you commit murder, I can turn you from a criminal into a victim. Besides, we're in the same boat, as you've reminded us many times. We have a mutually beneficial relationship, so there's no need for you to hesitate in making demands of me."
After hearing him speak, Bella's complexion grew even paler, but she didn't show her confusion outwardly, only staring at his smiling face intently. She didn't know what this man was thinking to casually mention "murder" like that.
Bella knew he liked to joke, joke excessively with no boundaries, but... he didn't seem like he was joking now. Although Levi was laughing, Bella felt a chill.
She avoided his gaze, turning away trying to appear calm. "Stop talking nonsense. I know you're wealthy, but I haven't reached the point of nervous breakdown."
"Fine, I won't mention it again. But I'm also looking forward to that request from you. You told Max earlier that you wouldn't be going back tonight, didn't you?" Levi recalled their conversation a few minutes ago.
Indeed, she didn't want to go back at all, and Max being home now made her even more uncomfortable. She couldn't understand why Max wasn't with Pearl.
"Order some food, I'm hungry," Bella said, feeling hungry since she had come straight to this bar after work and hadn't had dinner.
After a phone call from Levi, about thirty minutes later, dinner was brought to their room. The food was all luxurious and expensive, stunning Bella. She glanced at the man opposite her and continued to eat.
Levi not only had money but also power. This meal was definitely prepared by some famous chef, exquisite and aristocratic. It was midnight, yet Levi could easily order such delicacies, surprising Bella with the extent of his wealth. Famous chefs were usually very arrogant.
"No need to look at me like that, all these dishes are made by my chef. You've been to my house before and seen it," Levi seriously enjoyed the meal, but Bella kept sneaking glances, so he immediately explained her question even though she hadn't asked it yet.
Indeed, Bella had spent the night at Levi's house before and had breakfast with him, but the breakfast was already on the table then, and she didn't see the chef.
Bella frowned. "Is your chef still awake at this hour?"
"I informed the chef before we booked the room. The meal has been prepared in advance; they just need my order to bring it here," Levi said casually, considering it entirely normal.
But Bella didn't see it that way. He could have ordered food right after showering or whenever he wanted, but he waited until she said she was hungry before calling the chef. She didn't know why, but Bella felt a bit pleased.
"Your clothes are dirty now, I've also called someone to prepare new ones for you, and they'll be delivered early tomorrow morning," Levi added.
If he hadn't mentioned it, she wouldn't have noticed this important detail. The man was attentive not only to meals but also to her clothing. Instead of thinking Levi was caring and attentive, Bella thought he knew how to be attentive like that must have been very experienced in cases like this, but she didn't say it out loud, just smiled faintly.
After dinner, Bella happily lay on the bed preparing to sleep, feeling movement beside her. Turning around, she saw Levi lying next to her, staring at her intently. "Why are you sleeping here too?"
Levi raised an eyebrow, wrapping his arms around Bella's slender waist and pulling her closer, his tone and expression extremely pitiful and weak. "Why not? After you finish using me, you want to kick me out of the room? Bella, you can't be so cruel to me."
If it were anyone else, they would surely find his expression at the moment very pitiful, but Bella just felt he was acting too well. She wasn't deceived by his feigned pitiful demeanor.
"I'm not forcing you out of the room or asking you to book another one, just quickly go lie on the sofa. I'm not comfortable sleeping with someone else." Bella pushed him away, but her strength was almost depleted from their recent lovemaking, so no matter how hard she pushed, it was like hitting an egg against a rock.
"Do you only feel comfortable sleeping alone? This is the first time I've heard of this. If you're sleepy, you can sleep anywhere. Moreover, you sleep with your husband at home, why can't you do the same with me?" Levi tightened his grip on Bella, one of his legs propped up on her, making it even harder for her to struggle.
Bella was puzzled when Levi once again brought up Max for comparison; she couldn't understand what grudge this man had against her husband. "I'm the same wherever I am; I don't like sharing a bed with someone else. Max and I also sleep separately."
Thinking she had to struggle more to escape from his firm grasp, but as soon as Bella finished speaking, Levi immediately let go, leaving her somewhat bewildered.
"Are you telling the truth?"
"Truth about what?" Bella tilted her head inquiringly.
"You said you and Max sleep separately, is that true? Why do you sleep separately, doesn't he find it odd?" Levi stepped off the bed, taking a pillow with him as he walked to the sofa.
Bella felt relieved that he compromised and breathed out, "Before I found out about Max cheating with Pearl, he often used work or entertaining clients as an excuse to spend the night outside. At that time, Max wanted to prove his position, so I didn't want to stop him. Naturally, almost every night I slept alone; at first, I felt lonely, but because I thought about him, I didn't dare ask for much."
"What about after you found out?" Levi curiously asked.
Bella didn't want to remember, but she still said, "I used the excuse of insomnia if there was someone else beside me, and I didn't want to bother him. Max didn't care much because almost every night he wasn't at home. Anyway, I've formed the habit of sleeping alone for a long time, so sleeping in the same bed with someone else makes me uncomfortable and uneasy..."
Bella felt her eyelids heavy, as soon as she finished speaking, she fell asleep.
"Bella? Bella? Are you asleep?" Levi called her but got no response; he walked to the bed and saw Bella had already fallen asleep. He chuckled. “You have no defense at all, Bella. Is it because you trust me too much or… are you stupid?”
The next morning, Bella woke up to the doorbell. She groggily got out of bed to open the door, greeted by a female employee carrying a new set of clothes and breakfast.
"Good morning, Miss William. I brought you a new outfit and breakfast. Mr. Karter sent a message for you." The female employee said gently and respectfully.
Bella just noticed she was alone in the room; Levi must have left at some point. "A message? What did he say?"
"He said, 'Be punctual at work,' ma'am." The employee smiled warmly.
Bella sighed in relief; if she hadn't heard the doorbell, she might have overslept. "I know, thank you."
Since Bella didn't have her car, she had to take a taxi to the company. As soon as she stepped into the office, she met Max. Bella thought he was waiting for a client or some business partner, so she quietly tried to avoid him.
"Bella, stop right there!" Max saw her and immediately called out loudly, making Bella startle and turn back. Max strode over and grabbed her hand, questioning loudly, "Where were you last night? Why did you deliberately not answer the phone?"
Bella was confused by his actions; she quickly glanced around and whispered, "Are you crazy? This is the company; do you want others to see your rude behavior toward a woman?"
Only then did Max let go of her hand, then he coldly snorted, "Come to my office, I have something to talk to you about."
Bella was puzzled by Max's actions. He suddenly called her last night and now early in the morning, he interrogated her. This had never happened before; although they had been married for three years, Max had never cared about her, so Bella couldn't help but wonder if he had gone insane.
In the elevator, neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere was uncomfortably quiet. It was the first time Bella had seen her husband like this, so she felt a bit uneasy, but she still followed him into his private office.
