Chapter Sixty-Nine
Chapter Sixty-Nine
Upon hearing this, Max smiled broadly, his face reflecting clear satisfaction with Bella's compliance and understanding. While waiting for his wife to change clothes, Max grew restless outside, quietly thinking that if Bella had changed earlier, or rather, if she had always been beautiful and knew how to take care of herself as she does now, it would have been much better.
That way, he wouldn't have to feel embarrassed whenever he went out with her. Before, Bella not only didn't know how to take care of herself but also dressed in a rather unattractive and rustic style. Regardless of how beautiful Bella's figure might be, her unattractive and unsophisticated style couldn't be salvaged. Moreover, Bella didn't know how to wear makeup, completely lacking the aura of the wife of the CEO of a major company.
Previously, Max always hid the fact that he was married from business partners because he was afraid they would want to invite his wife to events, and he didn't want to introduce Bella simply because he was embarrassed. But now, Max wanted to bring Bella to every business event with his partners.
"I've never been this excited… ha, even when I was with Pearl, I didn't have this kind of excitement." Max chuckled, murmuring to himself.
A moment later, Bella stepped out in a classic black slit dress. Although quite simple, she exuded a dazzling, noble beauty.
"Bella…"
"What's wrong? Is this dress too simple? Because I didn't have much time to prepare, I didn't bring many clothes. What do you think? If you don't like it, I'll change into another dress," Bella said with a hint of embarrassment, but she knew that her current look had already captivated Max.
The dress she was wearing was the simplest among the clothes she had brought. Of course, it was because she didn't want to have dinner with Max that she deliberately wore this simple dress. But it seemed that even a simple outfit was enough to interest Max.
Bella approached the vanity table, picked up the earrings she had prepared, and put them on. Then she turned to Max with a joyful expression.
"Max, look at these earrings. Aren't they beautiful?" Bella deliberately tucked her hair behind her ear to reveal the dark red earrings. Although overall it look quite suitable with Bella's dress, at a glance can see that these earrings are cheap.
Max, upon seeing Bella's earrings, frowned and asked, "Earrings?... Did you buy them?" Max thought his wife, despite changing her dressing style, still had a bit of a rustic nature since she didn't know that the earrings she was wearing were of poor quality.
Though Max was a man, he had bought a lot of high-end women's accessories, so he could distinguish at a glance.
"I didn't buy them; Pearl gave them to me... But I know they're fake, low-quality." Bella took off the earrings and put them back in the box. Her eyes turned a little sad as she looked at Max.
Max frowned slightly, "If you knew they were fake, why did you accept them?" Max wasn't sure how he felt at the moment. Bella and Pearl were best friends, and even though their relationship with him was a bit complicated, they were still friends. He didn't understand why Pearl would give fake earrings to her best friend, especially since Bella was his wife.
Bella sensed Max's discomfort and quickly waved her hand, saying, "I think she bought it by mistake or might have been tricked. She's my best friend; why would she give me fake stuff? But because it was a gift from my best friend, I still wanted to keep it."
"Even if it's fake, low-quality?" Max asked. He felt that his wife was too kind and generous. If it were Pearl, she would probably be angry and throw away the fake earrings.
The thought of having such a kind and gracious wife as Bella made him feel very content. As a man, Max hated most the infighting and jealousy among women, but his wife wasn't that type of woman.
Bella nodded and said, "What matters is not that it's low-quality or fake but the sentiment that Pearl has for me. I know she rarely gives gifts to others, but she gave me this. If it can't be used, it can still be a memento. Don't you think so?"
Hearing this, Max moved forward and embraced Bella, planting a gentle kiss on her forehead, his hand gently patting her back. "Bella, you're really kind. You're so gentle and generous. I'm so lucky to have a wonderful wife like you."
Bella smirked and mocked silently, her sweet voice saying, "I try to be a good wife… all for you."
The couple went to a luxurious restaurant near the hotel where they were staying, a place frequented by high-end wealthy customers from many places, giving it an elegant and aristocratic atmosphere.
Bella gracefully took her husband's arm and walked in. Max delicately pulled out the chair to help her. Looking at his face, she could see that he was looking forward to what was about to happen. Bella could not disappoint her husband, so even though she was disgusted, she still tried to cooperate with him.
After placing their order, Max looked at Bella with a doting and affectionate gaze.
"It seems... this is the first time we've gone on a trip together since we got married, right? I'm sorry, Bella, we should have gone on a trip sooner, but—"
"It's okay, I understand. After all, you have to focus on your work and career. You don't need to apologize," Bella replied with a smile as if she were a very understanding wife, lenient toward a husband who only cared about his work and ignored her. However, she was tired of his insincere apologies, as he would always use work as an excuse to cover up the fact that he hadn't paid attention to her for a long time.
Max still thinks that his wife understands him, so he is very satisfied. Although he is the one at fault, he wants Bella to understand and be obedient to him. If she doesn't understand him then she is a selfish wife.
As soon as the food was served, the candlelit dinner with gentle music from the musicians created a very romantic and sweet atmosphere in the restaurant.
"Although we've been married for four years, I still feel like it's the first day of our marriage. Bella, do you feel that way?" Max said softly, enjoying the sweet and romantic ambiance.
While eating, Bella raised an eyebrow upon hearing her husband’s words. Instead of agreeing, she asked, "Why do you think so?"
"I feel that even though it's been four years, I've been too busy with work, creating a bit of distance between us. Though we live in the same house, we've both been busy with our own things and don't spend as much time together as other couples. But now, my career has stabilized, and I can spend more time with you. Now, whatever you want to do, wherever you want to go, or whatever you want to buy, I'll meet all your wishes," he said.
Bella swirled her wine glass lightly and squinted her beautiful eyes, staring at Max. "Will you really fulfill all my requests?" she asked.
Max nodded without hesitation, "Of course! You're my wife, the mother of my children. We are a family, so if I don't meet your wishes, who else will?"
Bella couldn't help but laugh when she heard him call her the mother of his children, mocking and despising his thoughts. What amused her most was that this detestable man in front of her wanted her to bear children for him.
Bella didn't know whether she should be happy that Max knew she was his wife or not?
Max had no idea what Bella was thinking, and he continued to talk. "We should have had a child earlier, but that's my fault too. Moreover, other couples usually have children soon after marriage. We've been married for four years but haven't had a child yet. Though I'd like to have a child, I don't want to force you. But Bella, you should think about your father; he's getting older, and you're his only child. Wouldn't you want to give him some good news?"
Bella didn't reply, just listening. Seeing that she wasn't showing signs of discomfort, Max continued, "Actually, your father has brought up this topic a few times with me. I care about your health and well-being, so I don't want to force you. But when your father mentioned children, I could see the eagerness and excitement in his eyes."
Indeed, her father had mentioned children not long ago, but that was a private conversation between her father and her. Bella wasn't sure if her father had said these things to Max, but if he did, it was understandable.
Mr. James did not know that his son-in-law was the bastard who betrayed his daughter. Moreover, she and Max had been married for four years and Bella had never been pregnant, which made her father suspect that it was either Bella or her husband who had problems so they couldn't have children. And maybe Max didn't dare tell her father that he hadn't touched her in four years.
Bella nodded slightly, "You're right; my father has only me as his daughter. So eventually, everything he has, from assets to the company, will be passed down to me. Perhaps he would like to have a grandchild before he retires."
Hearing that all assets and the company of his father-in-law would pass to his wife, Max's eyes lit up. Despite her capabilities, Bella was currently only a low-level employee in his company, while his father-in-law was nearing retirement because he was quite old. Bella certainly couldn't manage a large company, so everything from her father would fall into Max's hands quite legally and officially.
