Chapter 41
Chapter 5:
Lucas’s P.O.V
“In a country of nearly ten million square kilometers and fifty divisions, not to mention all the neighboring countries that we could go to in search of two people, can you please explain to me why we’re standing at New York port, trying to catch a ship to nowhere?” I asked Damien exasperated.
As soon as the Court Session had adjourned, Damien had once again dragged me off to his room when he’d packed his bags and then taken me back to my pack so I could take care of some last minute pack business as well as pack my bags and then he’d once again teleported us to the docks where we were now awaiting our ship for departure. Honestly, I wasn’t complaining about all the teleportation; saved us a hell lot of time as well as money. What I do have a problem with was being dragged around like lost puppy while Damien called all the shots.
“Do you think if they’d been hiding somewhere on land, I wouldn’t have found out by now?” Damien answered now. “I’ve been on the lookout for them for the past year. If fact, I’d kept my eye on them ever since they left my castle that night, until they just disappeared a month later.”
I smirked. “And exactly how have you been doing that? Teleporting to her room at night and watching over her like a creep in the shadows?”
When Damien didn’t answer, my head whipped towards him in astonishment. “Fuck! Really? That’s really screwed up, man. Even for you.”
Damien simply crossed his arms across his chest and kept looking at the horizon as if willing our cruise to magically appear out of nowhere. I shook my head at the man and plopped down on top of my bags. “If you were really that miserable without them then why let them go in the first place?” I asked.
“I think I already told y-“
“Yeah, yeah! You told me about some Elder council and their death squad shit,” I waved my hand in front of my face to dismiss his words. “Mind telling me who the fuck these people are, and if they’re so dangerous, why are we going in search of Trisha and Neema again?”
Damien gave me a long hard look, his emerald green eyes seemed to absorb the light from the setting sun; and then he sighed and looked ahead. “Alpha Lucas, you don’t seem like a man who’s in a habit of repeating themselves.”
“I’m also not the kind of man who would just sit by and watch my loved ones get hurt.” I snapped at him, irritated by his behavior.
But it also made me wonder…was I still in love with Trisha? Yes, I had loved her when she had been in my care, but I hate to admit it, the only man Trisha had had in her mind all along had been Damien. When Neema had seen the future, she had instantly decided to go back to Damien despite the dangers. It also made me wonder if she had Damien in mind when we had made love. I shook my head. No, what we had shared was an intimate moment just between us…until Damien had showed up and ruined everything.
“I don’t plan of letting her get hurt either.” Damien’s words snapped me back from the past and into the present. “No one’s getting to her as long as I’m alive.”
“Yeah, right!” I spat. “We all saw how that ended for both of you the last time something like this happened. Hurt comes in many forms Damien; I just hope you knew that.”
“So does love.”
“What?” Startled, I stared up at his face, wondering if I’d heard him right. But Damien didn’t answer my question and the next instant I was distracted by the sound of a whistle blowing far out in the sea.
Both Damien and I turned towards the sound and found our ride to nowhereland fast approaching from the horizon. Looks like it was time to go find our girl. If…she was still our girl.
Rosanna’s P.O.V:
“Next!” I called out to my crew and ordered the clean-up crew to get Robert out of the ring and get him patched up.
Almost all of my crew members, except for the kids and teens and a few of their parents, were stationed at the ring, which was just the upper deck of my sea station, The Shelter. Everyone gathered here once a month to practice their moves against one another and it also ensured that none of my warriors will ever be out of shape. There was free beer that we’d taxed out of a cargo ship just this morning, a ship that had been delayed by the storm and we were all enjoying the fruits of our raid while we watched badass men and women kick and punch and beat the hell out of each other.
Tyga, the reigning champion had defeated three of his friends without breaking a sweat and was now awaiting his fourth adversary while beating on his chest like a deranged caveman. I shook my head at his antics while the crowd cheered for him and swirled the beer in my bottle before scanning the crowd with my eyes. I was sitting on a high railing so that I could have a proper view of all my people as I searched for the next contender who would be able defeat Tyga. It was going to be tough, of course, Tyga being one of my best warriors who was made out of two hundred pounds of pure muscle. But just as I was thinking that, a mop of dark hair came into view.
I took another gulp of my beer, thus emptying the bottle and threw the bottle at my target. She caught it with ease, even though she was on the other side of the ring and gave me a bored stare before dumping the bottle into the trash. A lazy smile formed on my lips.
“The next person to battle Tyga will be Kristin.”
The roar of the crowd quieted immediately and I found myself the target of several surprised and doubtful stares. I only looked at Kristin with my eyebrows raised and watched as she sighed and turned towards the entrance.
Everyone watched in quiet surprise as she retreated towards the door but didn’t go back inside. Instead, she went over to a metal stool and broke off one of the chair’s legs and carried it back with her as she entered the ring.
“You think it’s a wise idea?” Carig asked as he came to stand next to me and handed me another bottle of beer while taking a sip from his. “Tyga’s almost quadruple her size and body weight. She might be a vamp but she ain’t a strong one.”
“What do you think she took the metal for?”I asked him instead as I took a sip of the chilled beer. “Relax, Carig. Our little girl might not be as strong as Tyga, but she’s a hell of a lot faster.”
As if she’d heard my words, Kristin disappeared from sight just as Miriam, one of the kitchen help, danged a wooden stick against a steel plate signaling the start of the match, and within a blink of an eye, she was standing behind Tyga and jamming the rod at the back of his knees.
Tyga went down with a roar, but the match was far from over. He kicked out the next instant but Kristin had anticipated the move and sidestepped it efficiently. But what Kristin hadn’t anticipated was for Tyga to roll over and kick out at her just as she sidestepped. She flew back and hit the side of the railing, hard. I felt the vibrations through the railing straight to where I sat and Carig must have felt it too since he moved forward as if to help her. I caught his arm.
“Are you kidding me? She’s hurt!” He shot at me but I easily kept him in check.
“That girl didn’t get here by being a pussy, Carig.” I told him. “She can fight her own battles. So sit back and calm the fuck down.”
And once again, just as I said that, Trisha disappeared from sight with a gust of speed and this time, she didn’t pause until Tyga was on the ground and drowning in his own blood. The crowd that had been silent for the whole fight, unable to decide whom to cheer for, now burst out into cheers and came over to congratulate Kristin while she rubbed on her shoulders and accepted their congrats. Even Carig couldn’t help himself anymore and went over to her.
Hmm…I think I should warn Carig that Kristin wasn’t in the market. When she had first arrived here a year ago, she had been completely lost and desperate to get away from something, possibly someone. I didn’t enquire a lot about her past but as leverage on letting her stay on the Shelter, she had given us valuable information about an uprising amongst people who had thought they were strong enough to overthrow me and take my place. And the information had turned out to be true.
I had effective cut out those rebels and left them to fend for themselves on a deserted island and the vampire without any real abilities had been allowed to stay on our ship with her son. Within the year, she’d worked hard to improve on her strength and become a tough warrior; it’s only now that she’ll be considered as one of the best.
But as Tyga was being taken inside to get patched up, one of the women who had been in charge of taking care of the kids came running out of the building and headed straight towards Kristin.
“Kristin!” Lucinda rushed through the crowd and latched onto Kristin’s arm, instantly pulling her towards the door. “You have to come quick!”
“Lucy?” I called out over the crowd. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s Neema!”
