Herley groaned that morning in the department's office feeling like the third wheel as he watched Jennie and Sol, acting all lovey-dovey in front of him. He had been excited when Sol had agreed to let him come with her to the department's office, so they could revise for their upcoming exams, and he guessed it would hus opportunity for him to spend time alone with her, but had been disappointed when Jennie had showed up shortly after.
Unable to take it anymore, he raised his hand to massage his forehead.
"Hey." He called and Sol laughed again after Jennie had pulled back from whispering something to her and it warmed his heart, reminding him that he was yet to get over his feelings for Sol.
"Hey." He called again and the girls finally turned to pay attention to him.
"What is it?" Jennie bit out, feeling upset that he was disrupting their moment.
"Did you see April and Derek?"
"I don't think so." Sol replied, with a click of her tongue and Herley rolled his eyes.
"What is going on with them? They are always fighting, but now they are leaving me out."
His phone which was on the table, rang just then and he gasped, on seeing April's name name written on the ID.
"Good lord. How did she know I was talking about her?" He mumbled to himself as he reached to answer the call.
"Yeah?"
"Hey, I heard you were in the department's office. Is that true?" She asked.
"How did you know?"
She sighed. "That's a relief. Hey, did you see a laptop near the shelves?"
"A laptop?" He repeated as he straightened to look past the shelves, behind the girls.
"Yeah. There is a file dated today on the desktop. Can you send that to me?" She asked as he rolled his eyes. No wonder she had called. She only wanted him to helo her get something, she wasn't calling him so she could hang out with him.
"What will you do for me?" He asked as he rose to walk towards the shelves, to fetch the laptop.
"Gosh Herley, I can't believe you."
"Nothing goes for nothing." came his reply and there was a brief pause at the other end.
"Fine...I'll buy you fried chicken." He heard her say and he hurriedly went over to get the laptop, before returning back to where he had been seated earlier. He'd do anything for fried chicken.
"Okay, hang on..." He was saying as he settled down to set up the laptop on the table, dropping his phone on the tabel to tap the speaker icon.
"What's the name of the file?" He was asking when the desktop suddenly shot up a setting, demanding her password.
"Hey, it's locked. What's the password?"
There was silence at the other end for about three minutes and he was forced to look down to see if she was still on.
"April?"
"That's right... The password..." Her voice trailed off and Jennie , who seemed to have noticed the hesitance in her voice, turned to him.
"Is she afraid you'll steal her money?" She asked.
"Is your password the same as your bank pin number?" He scoffed. "Don't worry, I won't steal your money." He promised.
However, the silence at the other end lengthened after and Herley and he arched a brow, when she finally murmured something.
"What did you say?"
"Hum an...." came her murmur and hus frown deepened.
"I can't hear you." He told her and she murmured again.
"Jeez, what on earth are you saying? I can't hear you."
There was a loud smack at the other end, which neared deafened everyone. "Darn. Hot and sexy Derek Wright." April yelled out and the trio gasped in surprise.
"Wait. What did you just say?" Herley, who was shocked out of his wits asked. "You don't mean the Derek Wright, I know right?"
"If you don't send the file in five minutes, you'd be the next fried chicken in town. Bye." And with that, she ended the call.
"Did we hear right?" Jennie asked.
"I'm sure we did." Sol replied with a smile.
"But when did those two start dating?" Herley asked and Jennie shrugged, before he inputted the password she had called.
To his surprise, the password setting loaded immediately and popped up the desktop.
"Whoa..." He mumbled, surprised at how things had worked out, between them.
