Chapter 7. A gun
He poured out several glasses of bourbon that he drank in a gulp. He finally carried the whole bottle along with him as he plunged onto his bed drinking slowly until he fell asleep.
I cried for what seemed to be internity. While crying I noticed he had left the door open when he left. That impelled me to stop crying immediately and I wiped my tears while stepping out of the room.
I peeped left and right and the corridor was empty. I walked out of the room in which I was. The corridor was large with several doors that looked like. I moved to my left and it led me into a parlour which was well decorated and painted white.
There! there was this big door that made me smile when I saw it. My mood immediately swapped and suddenly I was filled with hope. I guessed it was the exit door leading to the compound, — the door to my freedom. I smiled to myself.
I hurried to the door. I opened it in vain. It was locked. My heart shattered and my smile immediately faded away. I wanted to give up and at the same time, I was craving to leave. So I started searching around the parlour for the keys. A key I knew nothing about and still, all that was in vain. I found no atom of keys.
I hurried back to the corridor searching every single room but all the rooms were locked. I stopped searching from the third room and they were more than six doors.
At the far end of the long corridor, I noticed a shady door different from the others.
It was scary yet my curiosity was greater than my fear. The particular door looked creepy yet I penetrated it without any second thoughts. Perhaps it had another exit.
Indeed, it was dark and creepy as I moved further. It wasn't a room but a door with stairs leading to somewhere which I was going to discover. My legs were trembling as I moved down the stairs which led me right down to a green door.
I pressed the knob of the green door, it opened and my heart started pounding. A weird toxic smell smacked my noise immediately as I opened the door. I covered my nose with my arm.
I walked in with shivering legs...
“Oh my goodness, Lord!” I screamed as I saw guns. I mean, lots of guns, money, much money spread on a white table. I also noticed a lot of white powder in big sachets. Perhaps it was Milk or salt, etc…
Anyway, I didn't give a damn. The only thing that called for my attention was the money.
I needed money and I was seeing money as I had never seen before. Since I was born I had always been a good girl, unfortunately not on that particular day, I had no good intentions for that money. I was terrified and happy at the same time. So much money could help me pay for my mother’s treatments.
I peeped around, it was empty with no camera very.
I picked the smallest gun from the table, the others were too long and frightening and it was my first time holding or even seeing a gun in my entire life. Of course, I had seen it on TV but it was never the same live.
I was still in a bikini kind of dress as I came from the club. I gripped a jacket that was laying on a chair by the table and wore it.
I held up a little bundle of green notes. It was so little compared to all that was on the table and I was sure he wasn't going to notice it. It was about twenty thousand dollars or so and I plugged it in the jacket. I didn't have enough time to count. Still, it was chicken change.
After that, I hurried out of the creepy room and it was so relieving,-- the scent was so toxic and irritating. I hurried back into the room in which I was.
Unfortunately, I ran into an unknown room. Taking a quick look around, I quivered in fear when I saw him, — the fierce man. And the gun fell out of my hands onto the ground generating a sore sound. My heart was pounding. I began to sweat despite all the cold in the room.
“Hmmm…” he grumbled with eyes gradually opening as he rolled himself in bed.
I was shivering, I knew the sound was going to wake him up. My heart had leapt into my stomach. He murmured and closed back his eyes. Luckily, he didn't wake up. I stooped, picked up the gun and I ran out in search of the room in which I was.
Somehow, I managed to find the room. I sat in bed thoughtfully thinking strategy about how I was going to escape from that place with the money and gun that was well kept in the jacket.
“What if I fail and I get killed?” I thought deep down while falling asleep without realising it. The bed was soft and so comfortable that it made me forget my worries for a few moments.
When I opened my eyes the room was shining. It was morning already. I rushed out of bed “No, no, no!…” I stood by the window whimpering. “OMG, you are a fool” I hit myself in dismay. I had everything planned. How could I be so reckless as to fall asleep at such a peak moment?.
I checked my pocket, the gun and money were well placed.
I looked through the window and the outside was astonishing. The compound was attractive and vast. So vast that I couldn't see the end from my window. All I could see was a tiny gate which seemed to be as far as a thousand miles. That was awfully intimidating.
