Chapter 53 - The Search
CELESTINA VILLARAMA'S POV
As I declared that I would be the one victorious in the end, I sat on the bodies of the rogues that I slaughtered. Their heads were laying beside the shelves and were lined up to make sure that I really did defeat five of them in an hour. I still can't believe that I did it, but that's really the result.
"So, how does it feel to kill wolves, Celestina? Doesn't it drive you insane? Isn't there an adrenaline rush surging in your veins that urges you to find more wolves to kill?" Siege consecutively questioned me as if he were seeing me as one of the murderers of the realm.
I rolled my eyes, releasing the scythe from my hands, causing it to roll down the body of the rogue until it reached the ground. "All I know is that I've grown stronger. Not as strong as the beta or you yet, but at least I did improve a bit," I said to compliment myself.
Heaving out a short sight of relief, I felt somehow proud of myself. All the doubts that I had since the beginning of this victorious training.
"Shall we head upstairs now?" Siege invited me, lending me his hand.
I stared at his hand, and it made me realize that this was the first time for me to take a closer look at his hands. It didn't look smooth at all. The texture of his palm just indicates how much he endured from his past to get to where he is at this moment.
Genuinely smiling, I accepted his invitation at the same time that I held his rough hand. The doors were shut, but the alpha only had to knock on the wall with a certain pattern for it to open. Or rather, Amelia was waiting for the alpha to give her the sign for her to use the lever on the other side.
“Look who’s terrified of getting replaced by another woman,” Amelia teasingly mumbled as she covered her mouth with one of her hands and raised one of her eyebrows to increase the level of her mockery.
I just looked at her like I wanted to pull her hair, but we just laughed it off. "I wasn't even thinking about that when I slashed off the heads of those rogues," I proudly said, trying to make it seem like I was unaffected by the possibility that he would find another woman to make as the pack's luna.
Alpha Siege walked ahead of us, so I tried to catch up to his speed. I wondered if he was amazed by my improvement, since he has never complimented me since we came out of that place. But my worries all disappeared when he asked Amelia to leave the two of us alone to talk.
We were outside the pack house and wandering across the road. He had his eyes straight ahead, but I could feel that he was looking out for me in case a vehicle passed by.
"Why do you keep on staring at me like that, Celestina? Are you waiting for me to gouge your eyes out?" Siege consecutively asked.
I almost jumped because of how shocked I was. "I-I was just curious about how you thought of my skills back there..." I shyly answered. My heart thumped quite slowly, but it felt like I was running out of breath as my chest felt tight even though I wasn't even in the midst of a battle anymore.
"Ah, that... You actually exceeded my expectations, really," Siege mumbled as he turned to face me, making eye contact with me with a huge grin on his lips. "Ever since you were a kid, I knew that you were the type of person who could never wield a weapon. You always looked like you would be the first one to die in a war, since you're always afraid to strike back," he explained.
Siege intertwined his fingers, placing both of his hands behind his head as he walked like he was the king of the streets.
"Do you still know if there's a chance for us to come back to that world?" I asked out of pure curiosity, hoping that there was a way for us to return to where we originally belonged. "It has been years since the portal appeared in our world, and I'm having a gut feeling that there's a huge chance that the same portal will still appear later on," I added.
Siege arched an eyebrow. "Why? Don't you want to stay here in the Realm of Xenon anymore? Are the wolves already tiring you out or something?" he asked first, causing me to shake my head for him to continue with what he wanted to say. "I'm not sure if there's a way since I'm not the one who created that portal and this realm. The Moon Goddess, Sarina, would be the only one who can give you a proper answer," he replied.
"I doubt that the moon goddess would tell us the real answer, though," I commented while we proceeded to where we were walking. "Where are we heading off, by the way?"
"The Fountain of Life," Siege answered, causing me to widen my eyes.
"But that's nowhere near here; it's located near the Silver Moon Pack's premises, Siege."
The alpha shook his head. "There's a lot of fountains in this realm, and the one you saw there is probably just one of those," he clarified.
Several minutes later, we stopped in front of a tall fountain. There were a lot of people nearby, and there was an amusement park nearby, which explains why there were children present in the vicinity as well. Unlike the one where Ice brought me, this fountain was more of a tourist attraction.
"Why is it so close to people?" I randomly asked.
"It's the fountain of life for a reason," Siege said, chuckling a little bit. "You're searching for the portal's next appearance, right? This fountain would tell us the precise or at least the estimated time of the next portal." The alpha pointed at the fountain of life.
