Chapter 72 Moving out

I jumped out of my skin when I saw Derick in my room, his eyes red with sadness. I just prayed he hadn’t read my thoughts, as I didn’t know how long I stood near my door, thinking of all that had happened between me and my Johnnie.

“You cheated on me Marylin, Derick said with tears in his eyes. Why? Was I not enough for you?”

I began to feel empathy towards him. My face flushed with guilt, the guilty conscience I threw away last night on the bed with John returned to me now stronger than ever. I didn’t know what to say to Derick, I knew I had hurt him badly and there was nothing I could say now to justify myself.

“I’m sorry Derick, I just think we should end things between us, I don’t want to keep hurting you anymore.”

“You’re a coward Marylin, you know that? Is this the first time you’re seeing me hurt? Is this the first time you’ve broken me, or seen me in pain because of you? And now all of a sudden, you’re breaking up with me because you think you don’t want to keep hurting me, something you’ve done so comfortably the past few months.”

I sighed. I knew I hurt him bad, but what could I have done? I just didn’t feel the same way about him anymore.

“Who is he?” He asked me.

It took a while for me to answer, I didn’t want to tell him at first, but I felt I owed it to Derick, he deserved to know who I had been with, the one who had succeeded in winning my heart.

“His name is John, he is from my former home town, and I am in love with him.”

Those words hit him like arrows, but he needed to know the truth, he needed to know that the relationship between us was over, and nothing would ever bring us back together, so long as my Johnnie was still alive, I would choose him over Derick any day.

He read my mind again, and he decided to drop the battle he had already lost, he knew he had lost me forever, and my heart now belonged to someone else, someone who would love me satisfy me better, and who wouldn’t be a constant pain in the ass like he was.

“I wish you the best of luck in your new relationship,” he said those words to me before walking out of my room, and that was the last time that Derick ever spoke to me.

“I am moving out of the castle.”

I called a coven meeting to break the news because the others didn’t have an idea as to what was going on yet. Dana, Edmund and Hillary came, but Derick didn’t show up.

I saw the shock in all their faces, Dana’s most especially. I knew they would be surprised, but they had to know that I needed to be close with my Johnnie, and I didn’t always like the fact that I had to be interrogated before I could leave to see him.

I decided it was time to spill the beans, I told them about my Johnnie, and about our love. I also told them about the argument me and Derick had, and also about our break up.

Dana appeared distraught by the news, but Edmund and Hillary didn’t seem surprised. Derick must have probably told them. Dana then tried to convince me to change my mind.

“Are you sure you want to leave honey? I mean he can just come live here instead, you can even make him a vampire, I’m sure he’d love that. There’s plenty of room here. I understand if things didn’t work out between you and Derick but no one is driving you away Marylin.”

“I can’t make him leave his whole family because of me Dana, it’s just not fair. He might not be rich but he has a good life and he is happy with himself, I can’t make him throw away all of that.”

She still tried convincing me until she realized that my decision was just like the one I had made when I said I wasn’t going to France; my mind was already made up.

Dana left the study hiding her tears and Edmund and Hillary did the same, leaving me alone. It was tough to leave my family behind, but was even tougher living in this castle and being away from my Johnnie. I would miss my family, I had enjoyed my stay here with them, and it didn’t mean that I wouldn’t come to visit them at times, but it was time to go and be with the one I truly loved.
