Five minutes went by and I just didn't seem to want to calm down.
Seeing my mate like that triggered feelings in me that I wanted to suppress.
Also, I was angry. What if someone else had seen her? Another werewolf? She wasn't marked. That meant she was free and anyone could lay claim to her. Only if she wanted to, of course.
I didn't know I was a jealous person. But all my fuses blew near her.
"Why are you standing around so stupidly?" Ella asked me and stood in front of me
"It's about Luna!" I answered without hesitation.
"What exactly?"
"I have to go away for a few days!" I decided.
"Was? Wieso?"
"Full moon coming soon. You know what that means."
She sighed and asked, "Do you want to run away every time there's a full moon?"
"I'll tag her otherwise. That's the last thing she wants."
"Ok, I understand you. When do you want to leave?"
"Sofort."
"How immediately? But the full moon won't be for a few days?"
"I can't stand being around her anymore. It's getting worse. You know what the full moon does to a werewolf. You can't be away from your mate for a minute. I won't be able to control myself anymore. When my wolf sees that if his mate is unmarked, he'll change that real quick."
"Take care!" she said hugging me.
I was lucky to have Ella. She always understood me and I knew I could always count on her.
"Take care of her."
"I'll do that, Hunter."
1 month later...
I looked at myself in the mirror and straightened my red bow tie. I didn't feel like that damn ball at all today. I also hated the color red. Only Ella decided it would be a good idea and left me no other choice.
I was supposed to be mating with Zoe today and I knew this was definitely going to be an issue.
Matt hasn't called in in the past month. I knew very well that this was not a good sign. He was planning something, so today I need to sharpen all my senses.
The last month flew by. After the first full moon, I had returned. Luna had moved back in with her mother. Thanks to my mind manipulation, she was finally acting like one.
Even if she was only with us for one day, I had gotten used to her presence. I could hear her breathing and heartbeat, which had calmed me down.
I got along better with Luna. We've done a lot, albeit not entirely alone.
I lay awake every night rethinking my decision. Shouldn't I give us a chance? Well, I wasn't allowed to think about that. Not until I cleared everything up with Matt.
...
"I heard you want to mate today too!" said Alpha Eros.
"No, I will not make a woman my companion this year either."
"Too bad, I thought you found a mate. Matt said they fell in love with his daughter."
I snorted derisively.
"Before I make that spoiled brat my Luna, I'll be long dead."
Eros laughed at my statement and nodded in confirmation.
He started to say something, but I stopped listening.
Luna.
How did I feel her presence? Why did I take in her scent? I looked around in panic and saw her just entering the hall. She was wearing a beautiful red dress that showed off her body perfectly.
Did I say I hated the color red ? Well I had changed my mind. It was my new favorite color.
I noticed too late that she was accompanied. My hands balled into fists and I glared at the bastard.
Cole.
I felt uncomfortable being here. I didn't know why I had accepted Cole.
However, Ella had persuaded me to come along a week ago. We had bought a dress for me together. Actually, I wanted a black, inconspicuous dress. But she chose a bright red one.
Cole grinned even more as he looked in one direction and pulled me closer to him. I followed his gaze and stared in horror into a pair of green eyes.
Hunter gave me a disappointed look and I could already see from here that he was angry.
"Come on, I'll introduce you to some people!", Cole said.
"Er, wait. I just want to say hello to someone."
Cole looked at me confused, but let go of my hand.
I didn't know why I was chasing Hunter who had just stormed out. However, I had a guilty conscience.
I got along well with Hunter. We became friends, even if I felt more for him in the short time. But he looked at me like a little sister. Because he treated me the same way he treated Ella.
I was restrained by the dress and stared at Zoe's angry face. Yes, I met her at school. Albeit not personally. Ella had told me that she was in love with Hunter and didn't like having another woman around him.
"Hey, what do you have to do with Cole?" she asked me angrily.
"Cole?".
"You're his companion! Why is he taking you? What's that supposed to mean?"
"Cole and I are just friends!" I tried to calm her down.
"I'll kill you if I see him around. He only took you to get back at me."
"Like I said. We're just friends!" I said again and ran outside.
I looked around trying to find Hunter. To my regret, I saw someone completely different.
"What... what are you doing here?" I asked anxiously.
"Won't you say hello to your stepfather?"
"You're not my stepdad. You and Mom broke up."
"And yet we are still married."
I heard a loud growl behind me and the next second Hunter stood protectively in front of me.
How could he be there so soon?
"Didn't I threaten you?" Hunter asked in an angry voice.
"You should never let yourself be seen near her again!"
What? when did he have
Charles grinned and replied calmly: "You know, Hunter, you're not something to mess with. At least not alone. I'm not a pack anymore."
"He belongs to my pack!", a voice sounded.
I had only seen this man once. That was the day I moved in with Hunter.
Hunter grew even more and I was no longer able to see Charles and the stranger because of his size.
"Is this your revenge, Matt? You make me laugh!" Hunter said condescendingly.
"You have many enemies. Every enemy of yours is my friend. I will destroy you. Only today I don't want to make a riot. I see you are still at this little girl's side."
Hunter remained calm, but I was afraid his body would soon explode from the tension. I put my hand on his back. I don't know why, but he seemed to relax a little.
"Do you know what people say? That this human girl is your mate. The hybrid, of all people, has a human mate."
Hybrid?
"I'll kill you, Matt. You're afraid of me, otherwise you would have launched an attack long ago."
"If you only knew, Hunter...the attack has already begun. Does your little mate know about you?"
Hunter turned and grabbed my arm.
"We're going!" he said possessively.
"But..." I tried to stop him.
(...)
"Would you like to tell me what that all meant before?" I asked when we were alone.
"How could you be here alone? Something could have happened to you otherwise. How stupid do you have to be?" Hunter scolded loudly.
Tears welled up in my eyes. He had never spoken to me like that before and it hurt me.
When he saw this, his eyes softened.
"I...I'm sorry. When it comes to your safety, I can't help myself."
"Beforehand..."
"Don't. Please!" Hunter tried to end the subject.
"Why did Charles really leave my mother?"
"Because I didn't want him near you!", replied after a moment's hesitation.
"Why did he listen to you?" I kept trying.
"He had to."
"You won't tell me more?"
"I can't."
I sighed and was about to leave, but Hunter stopped me. His gaze was that of a lost puppy and he looked at me in pain.
"Was...was ist?"
"I'm not allowed to love you!" Hunter said to me.
It felt like someone was ripping my heart out of my chest. Why did his words only hurt?
Hunter removed a strand of hair from my face and stepped closer.
"And yet I do it!" he whispered softly.
