"Kian! Finally get up from your bed! Have you looked at the clock? It's already afternoon. My sister-in-law called my annoying sister-in-law. I groaned and sat up, rubbing my eyes wearily. I don't normally give in easily. However, my sister-in-law Rose was heavily pregnant and my brother would kill me if she got upset about me.
"Good puppy, we'll have dinner in half an hour. She said, making a face. She finally let me get off my bed. I rolled my eyes and finally went to the bathroom. I was glad that I was a own, so at least I won't be disturbed.
In the shower I tried to get rid of the smell of alcohol as best I could. I knew Noah didn't like it when we got drunk late at night. He just worried a lot. It was partly because he was the alpha of the pack. But also because he was my big brother. Family was the most important thing to us. My parents left us a few years ago. They didn't call and they didn't answer back, but we didn't care. We just didn't see them as our family anymore.
I hoped every day that I could one day start a family myself. Unfortunately, I still lacked the woman to do so. I often traveled in hopes of meeting my mate somewhere. I knew full well that the odds of finding her in this town were pretty slim. I've lived in Gladehills all my life. If she were here, I would have found her long ago. Moving away from here was out of the question as this was my pack's home. If we were to move, we might meet another pack, and then there would probably be deaths if you weren't wanted there.
Freshly showered, I took a towel from the holder and tied it around my waist. I took a quick look at myself in the mirror. Ice blue eyes looked at me. I didn't know who to thank for that. My siblings, like my parents, all had blue eyes. Mine, on the other hand, were completely different. Outside of my pitch-black pupil, my eyes were white. They only had a blue border. My sister-in-law always told me that I was something special. I could only shake my head at that. If I were something special, I would already have my mate in my arms. We'd have a little kian by now if I had my way.
Fully dressed, I stormed downstairs into the dining room and sat in my seat. As always, I looked to my left. An empty seat. That's where my mate should be sitting.
"You'll find her soon!" came Noah's voice. He sat down and looked at me sadly. I hated this pity number. Everyone was already looking at me like that. After all, it wasn't normal that at my age you still hadn't met his mate.
"Easy for you to say! You found Rose when you were 19. Just a year after you were able to recognize your mate. I've been looking for her for six years, Noah. Six damn years! What if I never find her? Maybe she already has children with another man? Maybe she's not even alive anymore because I didn't get a chance to protect her!"
With these words I stood up again and ignored my sister-in-law's calls. I had lost my appetite. That happened to me quite often. But could I be blamed? Bet my fourteen year old sister will find her mate before I do. Even if she would only have been able to do so in four years.

Arriving at the company, I was immediately adored by the female employee. How I hated that. I didn't need other women. I ignored the looks and walked quickly to my office. A young secretary came straight up, smiling provocatively. She had also unbuttoned the top buttons of her blouse. She put my black coffee on the table and said: "Good morning, boss. Can I help you?"
"Yes, you could!" I said quietly. She seductively leaned forward and looked at me expectantly.
"You could leave me alone and do your work! And button your damn blouse. Try someone you have a chance with."
Offended, she straightened up and left my office. I knew I wasn't exactly the nicest boss. But in situations like this, I had to be a little stricter. Many had already tried to seduce me so that they would get a very special position in the company. They didn't even try with Noah. After all, he had already been married for four years and he would kick out anyone who tried to get close to him. The reason was Rose. She would kill him as soon as she heard about it.
Noah and I have been running the company since Dad left us. It was founded by my grandparents and now it was one of the most famous companies in the marketing field. We had expanded three years ago and it was definitely worth it. Now we were known worldwide. But we also had a pretty big responsibility. We had our hands full. In the company, but also in the pack.
There was another knock on the door and Jacob appeared. He was part of the pack and therefore also a werewolf. I looked at him questioningly so that he could speak: “Kian. The new interns are here. Here's the list of their names so you can classify them."
I looked at him skeptically: "Isn't my brother responsible for that?"
"Usually, but he's asking you to do it this time. The interns are here for six months. Since Rose is going to have her child soon, he won't be in the office any longer. He said it would be better if you dealt with her directly."
I sighed loudly, annoyed. We took on a few interns every year. We kept the ones that were pretty good. The rest had to go after the internship period. Still, there was no disadvantage for anyone. The others got a recommendation if they were good at something. With this recommendation, they still managed to get a very good job. As mentioned at the beginning, we were quite a respected company.
Jacob gave me the list of the six new interns. I glanced at it briefly. One name in particular stood out. Ava Mason. Reading the name gave me goosebumps. I knew that name from somewhere, didn't I?
