"Kian, I can't. Far too much has happened in the last few years. I can't forget it all."
Kian looked hurt in my eyes and said: "I understand you. I wish I could undo everything. I was an adolescent idiot. I just want you to know that I love you and will do anything for you. If you ask me to leave you alone, then I will leave you alone. In return, I only want one thing from you. Let me protect you. I will stand by your side without you noticing my presence."
"Kian. I don't think this is a good idea. What if I meet someone else? Wouldn't you be jealous?"
We both already knew the answer to that. He would probably tear the guy to pieces. He could never see me happy with someone else. I knew our situation.
"See?" I asked when we were both silent.
"What else should I do, Ava? My heart cries for You. I can not forget you."
"Give me some time. I have to think about it."
He nodded in relief and kissed my head. "I'll be there when you're ready."
...
"Can we have a chat?" Riley asked as he walked into my room.
"Yes, come in."
He sat down on my bed and slowly hesitated.
"What's the matter? You're not usually so quiet."
"Ava, I've known you for years and we're best friends. But...it's not enough for me!" he suddenly said.
I gasped, startled, wishing he had never said that.
"Riley..."
"Let me finish, Ava. I've been in love with you for years, but I knew your past. You were hurt, so I gave you time. Now I can't do it anymore. Not when I know you're slipping away from me and get together with this dog."
"I never said I'd give Kian a chance."
My heart jumped when I thought of him. I missed him and deep down I had already forgiven him. I wanted to be with him. I wanted to give him a chance, but fate was not kind to us. I wasn't allowed to have a relationship with Kian.
"Then give it to me! Give me a chance. I promise to make you happy."
In that moment I knew I had lost my best friend. That it will never be the same again.
"Riley, I...I can't. I'm so sorry."
His eyes turned angry and he got up from my bed.
"You know what? It's for the best for me. You must be bad in bed. That's why Kian broke up with you too! Thank you, you saved me from a bad mistake! I want you gone before." I'll be back."
He stormed out and left me heartbroken. That just wasn't Riley. But he was right with every word. I got up from the bed and packed my things. I had been living in a big house with many other people for a few weeks. Sometimes I heard them call it pack house. They were always kind to me, but now I was no longer welcome.
...
When I was outside with my suitcase, an indescribable feeling came over me. I always had this feeling around Kian. But why should he be here?
"Ava?" I suddenly heard his voice.
I turned and saw him. Tears welled up in my eyes. I had missed him so incredibly in the last few weeks. How many times have I just wanted to drop everything just to go to him?
"Kian..."! I breathe softly.
He strode towards me and placed his full lips on mine. I kissed back, tears streaming down my cheeks. When Kian pulled away, he looked worried.
"What happened? Are you hurt? Why are you crying?"
His thumbs wiped away my tears and I looked into his beautiful eyes. You couldn't describe the color of your eyes.
"Kian, I...don't want to be without you anymore!", I honestly admit.
He suddenly smiled and wrapped his arms around me. I enjoyed the warmth and closed my eyes.
"You don't know how much I've been waiting for this. Now I'll never let you go."
...
"If I find that dog, I'll kill him!" Kian says when I tell him about Riley.
He was angry. His hand gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles white. I put my hand on it and tried to calm him down.
"You won't hurt him. I hurt him."
"Nevertheless, he shouldn't have thrown that nonsense at you. I'll cut his head short for that."
I rolled my eyes and noticed him taking a wrong turn.
"Kian, you should have turned left!"
"I won't drive you to your old apartment. You'll live with me from now on."
"Was?"
"Please understand me. I've been away from you for far too long that I just can't do without you anymore."
"You're a blockhead."
He laughed and brought my hand to his mouth. He kissed the back of my hand with a smile, making my heart beat faster.
"Will you promise me something, Kian?"
"Alles!"
"Promise me you'll never lie to me. You can't keep any secrets from me. I don't want this to separate us again."
I didn't know if I was imagining it or not. But his eyes widened for a second and his breathing quickened for a moment.
"Kian?"
"Yes?" he asked nervously.
"Are you hiding something from me?"
"I have something to show you and I don't know how you will react."
"What's going on?" I asked in panic.
He stopped at the side of the road and got out. Before I could open the door, he was at my side, helping me out.
"Why are you taking me into a forest?"
When we couldn't see the road anymore, he held my hands and said: "I have something to show you. But this could change everything. You mustn't be afraid, oke? I would never harm you."
"What's the matter, Kian. You're scaring me."
He kissed my forehead and said, "Wait a minute."
Kian disappeared behind a tree and I heard him undress. What the hell? When I heard a crack, I backed away.
But when the tall figure emerged from the tree, I could barely feel my legs. A huge wolf stood in front of me. He was black and his crystal white eyes looked at me reassuringly. crystal white? kian? It couldn't possibly be Kian.
He stepped up to me and snuggled up to me.
"Kian? Is that you?" I asked to make sure.
The wolf's head nodded. I hesitantly reached out and stroked his soft fur. I didn't believe it. I petted a giant wolf and wasn't even scared. Was it just a dream?
Its fur felt soft under my hand. I would love to pet him all the time. So I sat down on the ground and leaned against a tree trunk. Kian understood immediately because he stretched out his paws and laid his huge head on my lap.
"Is it normal that I'm not afraid of you at all?"
