Dancing
"What the fuck is a vampire doing in our home?", I all but shouted but people hardly paid attention because of the song but my team looked at me and began to walk towards me. I knew they might have heard what I said. " Keep it down will you?", she cautioned me. I know it's a wedding but people are already drunk and dancing. They were also in their human form so they wouldn't be as efficient to catch my words. But soon the energy of our place shifted and everyone unknowingly became tense. I know this calm and stillness meant one thing, they are here.
I saw Mike in a tux but there was another creature with him rather than a person. They were alone but with the drone and a few security mainly humans meant nothing to them or us. They were weak as me and the vampire would agree simultaneously. I stood there rigidly not knowing how to react. I wondered why he would bring a vampire to us for any reason other than to start a war. I thought he came in peace. Was I wrong? My mind was a blizzard. I decided to wait and see what happened? I looked around to find my guys standing close to me. The atmosphere was static; they were twitching, almost losing their control. They were waiting for my command to shift and attack.
Mike was the first one who approached me. He noticed our expression. I guess it's hard to miss. He shook my hands and whispered congratulations. I nodded my head, none of us beginning to broach the subject of our new visitor. He looked as if quite bored out of his mind. His eyes held a gleam of cruelty. I immediately recognised his bad vibes.
He looked at me and tried to mask his contempt with a placid face. He was not only dishonest but also untrustworthy I decided. "Hi, I'm Julio. I never thought the animals believed in marriage", he jabbed me. " I never thought of a dead one to grace our ceremony", I said without missing a beat. His lips curled as if my words hit home.
"Hey boys, cut it out will you", Mike intervened. " I don't understand why Julio is here, I don't remember inviting him", I told Mike. " you dogs have no manners, '' Julio said. I almost went for him when Mike pushed me away. "We just wanted to bring Julio to you as our new friend. We wanted to extend our treaty to vampires as well", he said.
"Since when did vampires and humans become best friends", I asked Mike. "We are working over it obviously," told Mike. I snorted in response. "When does this ceremony begin? I heard it's a blood ceremony", he said with a sneer. I wanted to bite his head off just for saying that. The way he was a potential threat to my mate's life wasn't giving him any points.
Suddenly, Lana was at my side dragging me away from him. " Don't fall for it. Anyone with a right eye could sense that he was provoking you", she told me. "I don't care, he joked about hurting my mate", I told her, clenching my teeth. " Who you are marrying for the sake of Mike", her last words didn't carry any noise. We weren't the only hypersensitive beings here now. I knew I had to be very careful.
My mate was watching us with curiosity, hell I'm going to introduce her to that blood-sucking monster. But she has to talk to Mike in my presence. I went to her and quietly took her arms in my hands and took her to a dance floor. With the music surrounding us, there was a chance that he couldn't hear us. I put my lips to her ears. The onlookers will only see a romantic couple dance, nothing more.
"Be careful while talking to the guy with Mike. He is dangerous, don't look at him directly and don't answer his questions. I will do the talking", I warned her. She scowled at me but didn't look convinced. " Who's he? Another wolf?", she asked. "No worse, he is a killer and a monster", I told her. " Well, you are both, you told me that before", she challenged me. "I have killed before but only to defend what's my own. I don't kill for entertainment and finally, I'm not a blood-sucking vampire so you better stick with me", I told her mightily.
Her eyes grew large fearful of the newfound information. The least of the bad things I would do was to kill her but the vampire could do worse, like eat her. That fear would do her only good, I decided. Once the dance finished I dragged my reluctant bride to be in front of Mike. He looked at us cheerfully and Julio was away for a moment.
" You look wonderful my dear", Mike told her. She wasn't relaxed because of the lingering fear of vampires. It must be shocking to her for seeing things that were imagined to be figments of myths. It was one thing to hear about vampires but another to see them before yourself. She wasn't quaking in her shoes thankfully. She wasn't a coward. I was very proud of her. What was I thinking she was my enemy? I better hold on to my horses or she will toss me over like before.
She shook Mike's hands with a smile plastered over her face which wasn't farced at all. She was genuinely happy to see him. I might have missed their budding friendship or she might be really happy to see one human other than her. But Mike was no ordinary human instead he was from special services serving the office. She had to be very careful while dealing with him or her copper will be out soon.
Mike offered her congratulations and regretted his inability to attend the wedding. She naturally accepted everything. "You know your friend Lis, I think her name dearly misses you. I hope you contact her soon", said Mike. Her face was tender all of a sudden like she was vulnerable and human. But she quickly masked it with much force.
" She is a friend and co-worker. Has she been troubling you?", she asked Mike anxiously. "If continuous inquiry after her friend counts for trouble. She even held a March to the sheriff's department asking to find her friend", told Mike. She looked as though she wanted to say something but instead put her head on my chest. She was hiding her face but it didn't give him doubts and showed only concern for her friend. So we were safe from Mike.
He chatted about the function and the crowd like a normal person but our circumstances were far from it. We were interrupted by Julio again who looked at my mate interestingly. It made my blood boil. I hated her but that didn't mean he could look at her. I would pull his fucking eyeballs out if he stopped looking at her like bacon.
" May I have this dance?", he asked her. She flinched away from him. "No", I barked at him. How dare he do that too in front of me. " It's Ok Aidan Julio won't harm her", he said to me. I was shaking my head already. This is too much. I won't have his dirty hands touching my mate. Even if she had done something bad she didn't deserve to be given to a vampire as a piece of meat.
She took a heavy breath and finally stepped away from me. She placed her hands over his a little shakily he drew her towards the dancing floor. Well, fuck diplomacy. The song was a slow number that meant long minutes of dance. I don't know much less about vampires hell I only knew a bit about werewolves despite me being one.
I have heard vampires are master manipulators. They can make people fight or mend their differences within seconds. I hated the fact that I have given him access to one of the most important people in my life. I watched her closely and she looked uncomfortable as if she didn't want me here. But to my surprise, they weren't talking, which was very unusual considering he couldn't shut his face for two minutes. After a while of waiting for the dance to be over I immediately cut into their dance.
She was relieved to see me which gave me immediate joy. He had no choice but to relinquish her hands and leave the dance floor. She still looked disturbed. "You Ok?", I asked her. She nodded her head. I wasn't convinced by that," What did he say?", I asked her. "He didn't talk but he communicated with me. He said it was telepathy. He can talk with his mind", she said. " And?", I prodded her. "He said I didn't look like a happy bride and if I wanted to run away he could help me", she admitted.
" I said I was nervous about the whole thing but he wouldn't leave it and forced me to confess that I didn't love you", she told me nervously. "Don't worry I will deal with him", I told her. I was going to reassure her that I would protect her with my life when a loud bell rang. "It's time for the ceremony," I told her feeling thankful that was interrupted before I said those stupid words. We walked towards the area of the ceremony the prayers were commencing everyone bowed their heads.
