THE RESCUE
CHAPTER SIXTY SIX
RYAN'S POV
My goals are finally going according to plan and nothing can stop me or make me back down. If I can make my stubborn son fall on his knees and beg for mercy then I can take down whosoever I wish.
Today is the day Jay will realize the mistake he had made and the perfect day I get to send him to jail and not only that I've some men in jail who would finish him off once he gets caught according to my plans.
I'll show the world I deserve the position of the mafia king and no one, and I mean no one can ever stop me from getting to that position.
We arrived where Steve asked me to meet him after some couple of minutes and asked Joe to stay behind and keep watch while I walked inside the creepy old building.
"Father, you showed up earlier than I thought." I heard his voice coming from the stairs before he came into view with a grin on his face.
"What's the problem, Steve?I've got an important matter to deal with so why did you asked me to meet you here?"
"That matter can wait, father. I just got a big catch which you will be very pleased to see." He smiled, which made me feel a bit dissatisfied with his words.
"I hope you haven't ruined my plans?"
"No father but instead I made the plan beyond perfection."
"What have you done this time around Steve?"
"I got a friend who is also an enemyl to Jay and you wouldn't believe who it is."
"How could you spill my plans to another person and who the hell is he?"
"It's none other than the men you hired to kill me."
"Who are you actually talking about?"
"Don't pretend like you don't actually know the guys I'm talking about? Did you know, father, that I had to pay a huge sum of money to find out your little secret; however, that's not the case here. We can both settle our misunderstanding after we destroy our enemy, Jayden Russell."
"What secret are you talking about?" I inquired, with knitted brows.
"You'll get to know soon enough." He smiled cunningly.
"Steve, you don't get to act so smart with your father after everything I did for you! I did all I had to do to get you on track and make you realize my worth."
"Of course, I do have every right to be a step ahead of you, father and remember you're at my mercy now because I've the upper hand in this game of chess." He grinned which made me feel bitter.
I thought I had everything under control but unfortunately, my son has overpowered me. I shouldn't have made him stay by my side all these years to get back at me now when I'm close to finally getting the hard block on my way.
"Very well then."
"What a great decision, father. Make yourself at home before our guests arrive." He smiled and stepped outside leaving me all lost in thoughts.
Who are the guests and what secret is he talking about? I don't remember having a secret that he isn't aware about or is he trying to play with my head? I'll have to wait for the so-called guests to arrive to know what secret he's actually talking about.
SARAH'S POV
I kept screaming out Max’s name with tears in my eyes as the man who had slapped me earlier grabbed one of my legs.
“Let go of my leg, you monster.” I yelled.
“If you don’t keep your voice down, I’ll force you the hard way.” He growled, pulling me down from the bed to the floor.
“You’re so cruel. I promise you won’t get away with this.” I snapped at him, drawing away from him.
“I said, shut the f**k up!” He barked, and grabbed my hair and pushed me to the wall causing me to hit my head on the way.
Jay, where are you? Please, come save Max and I. I’m in so much pain. I wish I had the strength to fight back.
“Hey dude, back off! Boss said we shouldn’t lay a hand on her so that’s enough.” One of the men said from the door which made him growl and walked out of the room.
I slowly fell to my knees in tears as droplets of blood kept spilling down my face. I was concerned about myself, all my thoughts were on Max, the little poor kid who knows nothing yet those monsters want to hurt him.
I just hope Jay will come to our rescue on time because I won’t be able to forgive myself if anything happens to Max.
**
“Mommy, wake up!” I heard Max’s voice which sounded like a whisper. I thought it was a mere delusion until I opened my eyes and found him close to me on the bed with my hands and legs being tied.
“Honey, are you okay?” I inquired with a smile feeling happy he’s back safely with me.
“Yes mommy. I thought I wasn’t going to see you again.” He replied with tears in the corner of his eyes.
“Please, don’t cry baby. What matters is that you’re here with me. Your daddy is coming to save us, alright?” I assured him with a warm smile.
“Okay mommy.”
“Can you cut me loose so I can find a way to get us out of here before your daddy arrives?”
“I can try.”
He managed to get me out of the rope after several attempts which I couldn’t be more than proud of him.
“Thank you baby. Let’s find a way to get out of here before anyone sees us.” I said and grabbed his hands to the door when I heard footprints coming towards the door.
I quickly hid behind the door signaling Max not to make a sound, waiting to see who it was as the door was slowly opened.
“They're gone!” One of the men yelled and rushed out leaving the door opened which was a perfect opportunity to make a move.
I held Max’s hand and peeked outside to see if it was safe to escape.
“Let go, honey.” I murmured as we headed down the creepy hallway of the house. We got to the end of the hallway about to make a move outside when a deep masculine voice stopped us.
I knew if I don’t make a move now, we probably won’t be able to get out of here on time.
“Honey, on the count of three, you will run to the door and yell for help. One… two… three… run!” I yelled as Max ran as fast as his legs to carry him while I ran after him but was stopped before by the masculine stranger before I could catch up with Max.
“Where the hell did you think you’re going?” He growled, and gave him a resounding slap from the back which sent me down to the ground.
I turned around to see the face of the monster who showed no mercy for hitting a woman but to my greatest surprise, it turned out to be the face I never thought I would see again.
“You….” He called out in shock as I felt my stomach twitch due to fear.
