Chapter 32 Lazy Girl
I think I'm allowed to say "the world would be useless without women".—Cinmisola
"Remi? Are you okay? Are you going to pass out on me again?" he asked half jokingly
"No, I'm not, i...I am fine"
Lies.
"You're sure?"
"So...your father? He's one of them? I don't understand, if he's one of them, why would he let them kill Jax?"
"Jackson found out about it and obviously wasn't able to keep it to himself like the others. They had no choice but to kill him"
"Oh my God, I swear I can't believe all this, so what's going to happen to...Oh my GOD!"
Those innocent teenagers, all dead and used for money, just because they wanted to party? What type of world are we living in for Christ sake?
"So everyone of them, dead?" I asked.
"Yeah, except from Emem and her pals"
"Wait, What? Aisha,Emem and Tobi know all about this?"
"Thought you would have had that figured out"
Why is he smiling? Why must he smile? Doesn't he know that I am trying to be sad here? And I can't be sad if I'm being distracted by his ...face. Oh my God, March. What is happening to him right now?
"So you're telling me right now that Aisha knows her dad is a ritualist?"
He nodded.
"And she can still live with him?" I thought aloud.
"She has no choice."
"What? Of course, she has a choice. Her mum left her dad, which was a choice."
"You don't get it do you? She leaves, she dies."
Oh that.
"So what do we do now?"
"We don't do anything. That is how to stay alive. Just go about your normal life."
"You're either kidding or you're as heartless as your father. What do think the parents of those kids are going through now? What if you didn't rescue me?"
"I'm sure most of them didn't tell their parents the truth about where they were going to, like you"
"How do you..."
"I came here to check on you and your mum said you went to the 80th birthday party of some woman or so." He said, throwing a knowing look at me.
"So they won't even see the corpse of their kids?"
He shook his head. "if they try to, Chief Ekene would prove to the court that his daughter wasn't celebrating her birthday."
Oh no! That is true. I should not be bombarding him with questions; I should be thanking him for saving my life.
However, I was feeling more terrified than ungrateful.
"I can't go back to that school"
"You'll have to go back to that school if you want to live"
"What do you mean? You want me to go and die, shey?"
"You said, Aisha and Emem saw you right?"
I nodded.
"if you do not show up at school with your friends on Monday, they'll know you know something and you'll definitely die anyway."
Oh God! What have i gotten myself into? How can everything change so easily?
"Obinna, how am I supposed to act around them? Especially now that I know how evil they are?"
"You've just got to go, and make sure they don't suspect you."
I know right? That would be very easy...In fact, super easy to pull off. How will I show fear when I stand in front of children of heartless ritualists. Why will I show fear?
I noticed that his hands were beginning to get to close to my skin and although I liked the feel of it, I knew it was inappropriate.
"You should get going, my mum will be back soon" I coughed out, running my fingers through my hair.
March, I'm so sorry. I am sorry.
"You're right. Just assure me you'll be fine"
"I'll be fine. But wait, if you're sure your dad and his friend killed Jax, then who...."
"Who send you those anonymous messages?"
"Yeah" I rose up slowly.
"My step mum did. She got a media person hired. She knows of the various escapades of her son, so she hired a media person to go about spreading confusing messages around to cover up every possible suspicion that might arise. She loves, Jackson, but she loves her husband more, or should I say she loves the money more."
He reminded me of the things I was supposed to do and the ones I was never to do before leaving. He did not have to say it, but I could sense that he did not want to leave me. I didn't know why he cared so much about me, and I intended to find out.
As I lay in bed that night, I couldn't sleep, it was a miracle that I was able to look my mum in the face and tell her everything was ok. Rotimi kept checking up on me to see if I was going to pass out again. Somehow, he realized how much I loved him, today.
It's amazing how everything you know and believe in can just change within a twinkle of an eye. My friends and I decided to attend the party with the aim of discovering secrets that could ruin the social lives of the evil-3, little did we know that we were about to discover what could as well be described as the biggest secrets of our lives. A secret we didn't dare tell anyone, an unbelievable secret, a secret that changed our lives completely. One minute I was living la vida loca on a Korean chauffeured limo, the next minute I watch over a hundred students, classmates, friends, I watched them die. I knew my life wasn't ever going to remain the same.
The next day, I woke up hoping yesterday was a dream, but Rotimi's face ruined the hope.
"Can we talk?" he asked, plopping himself beside me.
"We've started talking already."
Therefore, you might as well start talking.
He smiled. "Are you sure you want to go back to that school tomorrow?"
"It's not as if I have a choice," I groan out in frustration.
"We can..."
"Rotimi your phone is ringing, and wake that lazy girl up. We have church to go to." Mum yelled.
"Mum, who's on the caller id?"
"Someone called, Aisha"
