Chapter 40 Revenge Time
How could you possibly fall for a woman like her? She's just too much for you!
When Roland said, "As soon as your face is completely ready", I thought he meant as soon as my Face was all healed up. I wasn't ready for what happened next.
I finally got my act together, stopped screaming, stopped crying myself to sleep and most importantly, stopped seeing the ghost of my brother and that of my parents. Roland informed me that I had been in the hospital for 6 months. I didn't believe him till I saw the newspaper. Up until then, I still had a bandaged all over my face until Roland came in with two female doctors and announced that it was finally time to take my mask off, placing a hand-mirror in my hands. I was a bit scared and mostly excited especially because Roland assured me my face was as good as new. As one of the female nurses began to take the bandage off slowly, I began to see flashes of my parent's horrific murder. The cold sight of the corpse of my fingerless and tongue-less brother and I knew if Roland wasn't holding my hand I probably would have lost it.
"Slowly, look into the mirror. Don't scream—wait Remi...take your time—please do not scream"
I wondered why he kept telling me not to scream but I nodded anyway and assured him that I wasn't going to scream or create a scene. I wasn't expecting the perfect face and I was prepared for whatever my face turned out to.
I was mistaken; I so wasn't ready for it. I wasn't the person in the mirror. I felt invincible staring into the mirror. It was as if I wasn't there at all. The face staring right at me and making the same gestures as I was, was a totally different face.
"Oh—my—God" I whispered. "What did you do—my face—it's it's gone"
"Inhale and exhale, Sister. Don't overreact"
Don't overreact? I'm staring at an Asian girl from probably a Korean movie and I should keep calm!
"listen to me, Rem. In as much as I hate the fact that you look like a totally different person, I must also admit that it's all for the best"
"What happened to my—"
"Your old face? Sis, it was damaged to a point of no repair. There was no way we could salvage it. We tried but it looked—I assure you that you would have requested that I kill you at the sight of your—former face"
What was I supposed to say after that?. I wanted to cry so bad but I didn't want to ruin the...new face.
"So what next now?" I croaked out, sniffing back the tears that threatened to drop.
He took the mirror from my hands, placed it softly on the bed, took a hold of my hands tightly and into my ear he whispered. "Now we get revenge"
