Chapter 39
He turned his gaze to the princes seeing that I wasn't going to take the bait.
“You never seize to amaze me Aurora, even when your mate is chosen by the moon you still cannot hold on to him, and as usual I have to do everything myself” he sighed I looked at the princess and saw that all the confidence and the poise she was displaying earlier was now gone now she looked like a wounded puppy that has just been cast aside, I looked over at the queen and saw that she was sobbing softly and for some reason it seemed to annoy the king even further.
“Enough of this nonsense, Aiden Braveheart will mate the princess in the morning to commemorate the start of the mating season, the press has been notified and everything has been arranged” he clapped his hands with a smile on his face and he continued to eat as though all was right in the world. Everyone else sat quietly not touching their plates, the queens’ sobs echoes through the dining hall.
“Eat!” he said his voice vibrating like thunder and I don’t know what came over me, it could be my disdain for the princess and the whole royal family for thinking that giving up a mate is as easy as taking out the trash or maybe it was my absolute love for Scar, my white coated mate I don’t know what it was, but a force came over me and I stood up.
“No, the only thing that is decided here is that Scarlett is my mate, and I don’t care who you are, but I will not be mating the princess, I have found my mate and I will do right by her” and I mimicked him by clapping my hands the same way he did not caring that I was making fun of the King.
“Now we can eat” I said taking my seat.
“You insolent little…” he stopped and took a deep breath calming himself
“You seem to think of what I said as a request, well let me assure you that it isn’t, if you do not proceed with the mating ceremony come morning your family will be out” he said waving his knife in the air.
“Out, what do you mean out?” I looked at dad and he seemed defeated as though he had no fight left in him.
“Let me ask you this, do you know where the Alpha gets his strengths from Aiden?” he took a sip of his wine looking at me with a cocky grin that indicated that he had my king at check mate, and I had no more moves up my sleeve.
“I can tell by the look on your face son, that you don’t, well then let me enlighten you… you see the more the Alpha stays close to the wolfs more powerful than he is, his strength and those of his off spring is sustained and he can remain Alpha and his descendants likewise as long as the direct line to a higher power isn’t severed his blood line can remain in power for centuries…much like your family has Aiden…now let me ask you, are you willing to be the one that ends that lineage?” he said with a smug look on his face that said game over.
“I…I…damn it this is not fair… look I ca…” I stammered trying to find the words, Scar took my hand and squeezed it tight stopping me from continuing.
“Aiden misspoke your majesty, of course he will mate the princess in the morning, he has no intention of ruining his family’s lineage, I myself will be leaving tonight, I’m deeply sorry for the trouble I have cause here tonight and hope that you will find it in your heart to forgive my and Aiden's insolence your highness, now if you will excuse me” she said getting up and running to the door.
“Scar wait” I called running after her she got to the door, and stopped, her eyes overflowing with tears and her cheeks flushed red as she turned to face me.
“What are you going to do Aiden, huh? Give up your family, all you’ve worked for, all your family has worked for, for what? Me?! She shouted then her eyes softened, and she continued
“You know what the right thing to do is here Aiden…so go do it” she said brushing my cheek and kissing me gently on the lips, I watched her leave and no matter how much I wanted to stop her I knew she was right, and I had to let her go.
