Chapter 42
Aiden’s POV
I stood there and looked as Scar walked out of my life, and a realisation of what just happened came crashing down on me, whether this is right or not I cannot live without her, I turned and looked at everyone sitting at the table, the king now eating his steak without a care in the world as though he didn’t just watch someone’s world fall apart, the queen still crying uncontrollably, the prince and princess staring at their food not eating or saying a word and the other man who has a very lanky and skinny body with wrinkles all over his face and thinning greying hair was just sitting and listening intently, and dad, just looking at him sitting there not saying a word made me mad most of all, how could he just sit there and watch them rip my life apart, rip my mates life apart, he just sat there not saying a word not caring that his only child is being sentenced to a miserable life for all eternity, he is just sitting there allowing it to happen, he makes me sick.
“Is this what you want?” I asked, everyone looked up at me and then at each other all curious to know who I was talking to but as soon as they saw my face it was obvious who I was speaking to.
“Answer me Aurora! Is this what you want?! Do you truly want to have a mate that can’t scent you a mate that doesn’t love you? I tell you now, if you force me to mate you mark my words I will never touch you, I will never love you and I will let pain, anguish, and suffering rule our lives” I said meaning every word, and tears started running down her face as she realised I was not playing around. I walked over to her and knelt down beside her,
“I know what it’s like to be with your mate, my mom and dad’s relationship is one example, and I can tell you of hundreds of others that I know about from back home, look I know that here in this big palace the word love might seem fleeting and unnecessary, it’s easy to see how duty trumps happiness in this place” I paused looking at her hoping for a sign that she understood what I was talking about, but she gave me nothing she just sat there showing no emotion, tears were running down her face but her body was not pulsing or reacting to the emotions the tears were trying to depict.
“I can live anywhere but my home will always be with Scarlett forever and always, now let me ask you again is this what you want?” she looked at me and then at the queen, her resolve showing in her eyes.
“No that’s not what I want, I don’t want that for you son” we all looked at dad, who was finally awake, and it made me happy to see him finally acting like the Alpha I’ve always known he was,
“I have asked too much of you my son and I have done unforgivable things to you and to Scarlett, I hope that one day you will find it in your hearts to forgive me, but for now take my chopper and go to her” I stood there unable to move, I couldn’t believe he just went against the kings wishes, I looked at him and at the king, and I saw that the king didn’t look very pleased.
“Dad, what about the pack? You won’t be Alpha anymore, are you sure about this?” I asked in total disbelief.
“Enough, how dare you defy me like this and in my home!” the king said banging his fists on the table and standing up,
“If you insist on insulting me like this in my own home then I have no choice but to revoke your tittle as Alpha and appoint your Bata in your stead”
“If you do that then you truly are not the king I once knew, I have known you a lifetime, you have been my friend for years Efraim, we have both lived our lives with our mates and have no regrets, isn’t that what you want for our kids as well? A life without regrets” dad said pleading with the king.
“Damn it Efraim that’s enough” the queen said sobbing,
“She will find her mate someday and even if she doesn’t are you so desperate to save face that you would force your only daughter into a loveless marriage, I know it’s not easy, I will be the first to admit that just because you are with your true mate it doesn’t mean everything will go smoothly but believe me when I say that the only reason that has kept me by your side for these many years is the fact that you are my true mate if you were not mark my words Efraim I would have left you a long time ago” she said giving him a fierce look and the king grunted and sat down.
“She did it Efraim, she did everything she could, she lied to him she even went to the extent of telling him that he was a Dyadic wolf, I mean what a load of BS that was, but still she did it, don’t you get it all she ever wanted was your approval this girl will kill herself to please you are you seriously willing to see her miserable for the rest of her life before you let go of this power you love so much?" She paused and took a deep breath,
"Now this is my ultimatum, if you make them give up on their mates then I will give up on you” she said taking Aurora by the hand and dragging her out of the room with her, the king turned and looked at me.
“You fought son, you fought, and I think it’s safe to say you won the battle, and now it looks like I have a war to win, if you will excuse me” the king said getting up and going after the queen and princess,
“Oh, and David consider the events of the past forgotten” the king said to dad, and he nodded in response.
“I will see you soon old friend” dad said waving goodbye to the king.
“Is finding your true mate really that magical?” Prince Jade asked looking expectantly at the both of us,
“You have no idea” we both said at once with ear-to-ear grins on our faces.
“Then what are you waiting for she might be at the airport by now” the prince said urging me to hurry.
“Oh yes, dad I will see you at home”
“Yes, yes now go and son never stop fighting for her like you did today” I smiled at him and gave him a hug
“Thanks for everything dad” I said sprinting off to the door.
