Chapter 108
The maid came in with a tray of food and they paused their conversation to accommodate her. She respectfully placed the food on a side table close to them and took her leave once again.
"Alice, I have told you to relax. You have nothing to fear as long as you have me on your side," Lily said as she picked up a glass of orange juice and took a sip.
"Especially, now that I know she is such a cruel little whore! Why would I let my dear nephew get involved with her?"
"But aunt, Calhoun doesn't even want to see me! He has categorically thrown me out of his life. He doesn't take my calls. He doesn't respond to my mails. I don't know how I am supposed to make him love me when he won't even give me a chance," Alice whined.
Lily took a piece of cake from the tray of food and placed it in her mouth. "Don't worry about that. I will handle Calhoun. All you have to do is handle this little error of a human."
Alice nodded happily. Now that there was a member of the Lawson family on her side, she had some sort of support she could see the silver lining again. But one thing still disturbed her.
"Aunt, how about the media? I can't even step out without having cameras flood my face! I don't know what to tell them! Right now they think I was bluffing. Yes, I was bluffing that day but I thought Calhoun would have no choice but to come out and accept my claims. But he rejected me!"
Lily wiped her hands and turned her attention to Alice once again. As Alice was talking she was already thinking of the perfect plan to solve her problem.
"Calhoun is a very difficult person but not when it comes to me. He won't do the interview surely, but, I will have my son do it. The media will get off your back for a while since one of the family member will accept it."
Alice's eyes got wide in surprise. "Aunt you can make your son do that?"
"Of course, it's a minor thing. We rich people must look out for ourselves. I understand how many deals you will lose if words comes out that you were bluffing on national television," Alice said with a shrug. Yes she wanted to help Alice but deep down, she also wanted to find a way to connect her son with her. So in case things with Calhoun didn't work, her son can easily fit in.
"Thank you so much aunt. I am grateful!" Alice exclaimed almost moved to tears.
"It's okay. Come on join me. This is so nice," Lily said taking another cake and throwing it in her mouth.
"Yes, I have the best cook in town." Alice said as she joined Lily to pick a piece for herself. Now, she could eat without having nightmares. The sooner Calhoun's cousin made an interview her problems would be solved.
They ate their breakfast in peace, talking about business and the latest shopping items. By the time Lily left her place it was well noon.
"I will call you as soon as I am done talking to Calhoun, dear." Lily announced as she waved goodbye to Alice.
"Okay, Aunt. Bye!" Alice replied happily.
She walked back to the house with a large smile on her face, the dread in her heart was finally lifted by Calhoun's favourite aunt, Lily.
"Why are you wearing that face?" Sofie asked her. She had just woken up and she was coming down the stairs when she saw Alice heading to the living room.
"I will be wearing a wedding gown soon. I need to practice the face!" Alice beamed as she continued to the living room.
Sofie raised her brow at her sister. There was no way Alice was normal. Was she loosing mind? Sofie thought as she ran down the remaining steps and went after her sister.
"You do realize the entire entertainment industry wants your answer about Calhoun right?" Sofia yelled at her sister. If she was loosing her mind, she had to be there to bring her back to reality.
Alice looked at her sister and smiled. "Nope! I don't have to worry about that anymore. Do you know who just left here?"
Sofia raised her brow again as she stared at her sister like she had grown a new head. "Who was here?"
"Calhoun's favourite aunt... Lily Lawson!" Alice said with a smile brighter than the sun. "And she has assured me that everything will be fine. Calhoun listens to her you see and, her son will give a public speech soon confirming my claims and the media will be off my back!" Alice finished with a clap of excitement.
Alice expected Sofia to scream and high her that their problems have finally been sorted and they could laugh at Ariana. But Sofia kept giving her strange looks.
"Aren't you going to rejoice with me?" Alice asked her but before Sofia could reply, she spoke again. "I know this is too much news but, trust me, it is real. Ariana is not going to see the train that will hit her!"
"Alice stop!" Sofia screamed and Alice held her tongue in shock. "What you are saying makes no sense!"
"Sofia what's wrong with you? Lily Lawson was here and she assured me—"
"No! Stop saying that Alice!" Sofia cut her off. "Lily Lawson is just a member of the Lawson's family. She isn't even influential. They went bankrupt a few months ago and she has been living off her father in-law ever since! Don't you read the entertainment column at all?" Sofia spat out.
Alice felt like a long sword had been pierced into her heart. "I don't understand. She told me she was his favourite aunt. What does it matter if she is bankrupt?"
"Everything Alice! Lily Lawson isn't Calhoun's favourite aunt! She is his leat favourite! I have been stalking every family picture I can find of them on the social media reels and trust me, there not one picture of Calhoun and this Lily! I am sure he even despises her!"
Alice felt her legs go weak and she sat on the nearest seat. "Why would she lie to me?"
Sofia rolled her eyes and came around to seat with her sister. "Very simple. Everyone knows that Lily Lawson never helps anyone without needing something. If you just spend thirty minutes of your time reading gossip columns rather than those boring business columns you would have known better. Lily Lawson needs something from you, Alice."
