Chapter 118
“Do not speak of things you know nothing of…” John whispered.
Ethan stayed silent without being told he knew that he had crossed the line.
“Calhoun Lawson has sued you for harassment, property damage and defamation. He is requesting for a court case… we both know he will win the case because he is right. You have indeed done all of these things and the entire world knows about it too.”
“Can’t we buy our way out of these?” Ethan mumbled. They had money. If his uncle wanted to pay their way out of it, he could do it. But the man’s response shocked him.
“You must be mad! Ethan you have completely lost it!” john howled. His nose had turned red and he looked about ready to pound on someone.
Ethan took an unconscious step back. What did he say that was so wrong?
“But uncle we have the money?” or was he planning on sending him to jail? Surely if they didn’t bribe their way through he would get a sentencing.
“We have the money…” john mimicked him. “What money do you have? What money?”
Ethan frowned as he tried to think of their financial state at the point but it was hard since he couldn’t even remember the last time he was in the office.
“The first thing I said when I walked in here was complain about our stocks dropping in the market thanks to your wayward life! Yet, you stand there and tell me we can buy our way! Do you know how much the Lawson’s have? If we manage to buy the case, they will go as far as buying us! It will become a show of power and trust me when push comes to shove the Lawsons have it in numbers. We will lose! So get that disgusting idea out of your head!” John ordered.
“So what am I supposed to do now? Prepare for jail?” Ethan asked in a low voice. He was remorseful yes, but it wasn’t about the things he did to Calhoun. He regretted sleeping with that stupid Brentwood sister. She was like a curse. She was the root of all his problems. And right now his anger was directed towards her.
“You can either prepare for that or go to Calhoun and beg him to withdraw the case… whatever the case, I don’t care. I have done the best that I can for you and what you do from now on is seriously none of my business. You can’t ruin the family’s name more than you have done already!” john seethed in anger a she retreated from Ethan’s room. He passed Kevin who sat in the living room calmly. Of course the man would have listened and John hoped he at least had some sense to advice Ethan to make the right decision. Yes, he said he didn’t care but that was a lie. Ethan was the only family he had left, he couldn’t afford to watch him go to jail. If Ethan refused to go to Calhoun, he would have to go to Mr. Lawson senior himself to settle this problem between their families amicably.
One girl from the streets couldn’t come into the lives of the elites and just destroy everything at her wake!
As soon as John left the apartment, Kevin went into the kitchen and poured a hot cup of coffee for Ethan and took it to him. He knew that after every meeting with his uncle, Ethan was left feeling sober. But Kevin had listened to everything Mr. John had said, he knew that the man was right.
“Stay away from me Kevin!” Ethan growled as he saw Kevin approaching with the tray in his hands.
Kevin stopped at first as if taking in the scent of the room and then he smiled and moved forward. He placed the tray on the side table and went to stand by Ethan.
The smell of strong coffee filled the room and Ethan raised his head to Kevin as soon as their eyes met, he groaned inwardly.
“Sir, you do realize that if I leave, then you will be left all alone?” he asked in a calm voice.
Ethan scoffed and shifted away from the annoying assistant of a man.
“I know that you are troubled but you need to take something. I brought you coffee why don’t you drink it?” Kevin suggested.
“Do you think Sofia knew all this will happen when she brought her cursed body to me?” Ethan asked instead.
Kevin frowned as he couldn’t tell where this particular question came from.
“That woman is the cause of my doom! She brought all these to me!” he lamented. He got up from the bed and went to the table to pick up the coffee. As he sipped it, he closed his eyes in pleasure for it tasted as good as it smelled. The strong taste went to his brain and for the first time it started functioning correctly – or so he thought.
“Sir, with all due respect, I think there is no one else to blame in all of these but you…” Kevin commented.
Ethan threw his head back and glared at him. “So, you think I am to blame?” Ethan asked in anger.
“All I have done so far in my life is love Aria and just because I slept with that stupid Sofia, she leaves me and moves on to Calhoun like I was a used book! No, this isn’t my fault. It is this women! They are all selfish and cruel!” Ethan snapped.
Kevin didn’t want to start thinking his boss could be losing his mind. He was more interested in getting him to accomplish what his uncle asked him to do.
“What will you do about Mr. Lawson sir?” Kevin asked changing the course of the discussion.
“Do you think I should go talk to him? Aria might be playing him too you know…” he mumbled like a psychopath.
“I think you should go beg him to withdraw the case. You heard your uncle you don’t have money for court cases and the scandal that follows,” Kevin stated and surprisingly, Ethan agreed.
“Set up a meeting, I’ll go see him first thing in tomorrow…”
