Chapter 117
Kevin saw that Ethan had fallen asleep and he went on to wait for him. At least he was certain the young man wouldn’t sleep forever. He was bent to wake up. He went back to the living room and met it in disarray. Was Ethan even taking care of himself? His entire world seemed to have stopped the moment Ariana Brown walked out on him. Even his love for women was no longer a thing of the present. He barely even left the house.
Kevin took it upon himself to begin arranging the house. He picked up the throw pillows on the ground and took a duster and started cleaning the cobwebs away from the living room. When he went to the kitchen, it was another place entirely. Food Ethan had made days ago was left uncovered and rotten. The foul smell welcomed Kelvin the moment he opened the door to the kitchen. How could he think straight in a place like this? Kelvin asked himself as he started cleaning it up.
By the time he was done, a lot of time had passed already. He decided to make a pot of tea for when Ethan woke up surely he would have a massive headache for drinking so much.
The doorbell rang and Kevin left the kitchen to attend to whoever was there.
“A minute!” he called as he unlocked the door.
It was Ethan’s Uncle. The man had fire burning deep within his eyes and as he bore them on Kevin, the latter could feel the heat of anger coming from them.
“Where is that fool?” Mr. John roared in his gruff voice.
Kevin couldn’t find it in him to respond he only pointed a finger to the direction of the master bedroom knowing fully well who the man had come for.
Mr. John, Ethan’s uncle matched to the room in all his glory. Even the floor seemed to cry as each of his feet made contact with it.
“Ethan what is the meaning of these?” he yelled throwing an envelope to a very sleepy Ethan.
He had just woken up a few minutes ago and he was battling with his hang over when he felt a paper being thrown at him. And his uncle’s angry voice made him jump completely out of the bed. He looked up at his uncle with confusion and the man narrowed his eyes at him.
“Read it!” he ordered taking a seat on the bed. His breathing was coming at sharp ends and Ethan knew whatever had brought his uncle all the way to his house must definitely be bad.
Ethan picked up the paper with shaky hands and tore the envelope apart so he could take out the letter itself. His eyes skimmed through and as soon as he saw the heading he didn’t have to go further. Calhoun had sued him and it was his fault.
“Why do I always have to clean up your mess? I have given you everything you have wanted yet you still do this to me and the family! How do you expect us to fight against the Lawson’s? Our stocks are dropping… I am not even sure we can get back up after this comes out!” Mr. John went on. His face had turned red in anger and his breathing was now coming in sharp. “I demand an explanation and I hope to God it has nothing to do with that low class girl! Because I have warned you countless times but you won’t listen!”
Ethan was quiet as he felt very remorseful for the whole thing. He didn’t even know what had made him drive all the way to Calhoun’s company to do what he did. All he wanted was Ariana… was that too much to ask?
“I am talking to you young man!” his uncle seethed. The room became thick with tension and Ethan couldn’t bring himself to look up at his uncle. This was low even for him.
After a few seconds of silence, his uncle released a long sigh and got up from the bed. “You are lucky in have no son of my own to give the company to. It is a pity that you have decided to turn everything to waste because of a girl. I don’t know what to say.”
“I am sorry uncle…” Ethan whispered and his uncle turned to him.
“No! Do not say you are sorry Ethan!” he stated as his eyes commenced to twitch. “You have purposefully abandoned the company. You left it to your assistant! In fact even he has abandoned it to take care of you! And you have the guts to say you are sorry?” the man yelled. His voice resonated around the walls and the vibrations returned in ten folds into the room.
“I am trying okay!” Ethan snapped. “I am trying my best to be strong and get back on my feet but I can’t! I can’t! I love Aria. I love her so much!” he screamed as tears fell from his eyes. “How do I live without her?”
“You are such a fool! Love! You scream what do you know about love?” his uncle countered. “You were sleeping with practically every lady you found on the street yet you claim to love this one woman. Do you think I am a fool? That I know nothing?”
“I know everything boy! And I know you are only crying over spilt milk! The girl isn’t even worth the trouble yet you give in to it! Wake up Ethan! Wake up and pick up your life before it is too late!”
“You can’t understand… you have never loved before that’s why you can’t understand what I feel for Aria!” This was a low blow from Ethan and he knew it. He had never seen his uncle with a woman or even heard about him being in a relationship. So he felt the man knew nothing about love. But the moment he raised his tear filled eyes to John, he saw the pain buried in them.
“Do not speak of things you know nothing of…” John whispered.
