Chapter 170
Matt stood still unable to move, the sight in front of him was enough to shake everything he had ever believed. His father was gay. How was that even possible?
"Listen to me Matt, you don't have to tell anyone," his father said as he rushed to put on his trousers.
Matt didn't even know what to do at that point. He felt like crying and laughing all at once. His parents were not the perfect evil couple he had always thought. His father was cheating on his mother with another man!
"Matt!" Benson called after he had put some decency upon himself. "Let us talk about this—" the sound of the door opening interrupted him and he waited to see who was at the door before continuing.
Unfortunately, it was Lily.
"What's going on here?" She asked as she walked into the room. "I don't remember either of you having a relationship..." she trailed off as her eyes observed Matt's confused state and then Benson's strange one.
"Okay, something is wrong. What is it?" She declared after seeing the looks each of them was doing.
Benson rushed to speak as his heart still beat crazily in his chest. "Nothing! We were just having a father and son moment," he said with a burst of awkward laughter.
"You and Matt? Father and son relationship?" Lily asked in disbelief.
Matt and his father had never had any sort of relationship. Because Benson was never actually available in their lives. He preferred spending his time in his part of the company or clubs with different women —or men as Matt now knew than be an actual father to his sons.
Lily frowned at this point because it was obvious she was being lied to. "Matt?" She called sharply as she turned all her attention over to him.
Matt turned to his mother. He opened his mouth to speak but then closed it again as he turned his head back to his father. His eyes read disappointment and shock. He opened his mouth to speak again but in the last instance, he closed his mouth again and walked out of the room as fast as his legs could take him.
Lily's frown deepened. What could have made Matt react this way? He was never really an emotional person.
"Benson, what happened to our son?" She asked him. Matt was looking onto his side before he walked out. She wasn't stupid. She could tell something had happened between them and Matt didn't want to involve her yet.
"Nothing happened to Matt..." he said. She could see his hands shake as he spoke and she knew he was lying to her.
"Benson, tell me the truth and I promise to make it easier for you. What did you do to Matt?" Lily asked again.
"All— all I did was ask about... erm his progress so far?" Benson stuttered. He was starting to perspire and speaking was starting to become more and more difficult.
Lily's frown deepened even further. She loved her son and she hated it when they were angry or worried about something. This was one of the traits that got her sons spoilt and useless. She couldn't discipline them. She felt they deserved every good thing in life and that was what she was doing, trying to get more money for them to be happy. It made her skin itch to know that one of her boys was unhappy about something his father said.
"His progress, where?" Lily's eyes were narrowed as she fixed them on him.
"In... business. You can see Calhoun doing great for himself—" she didn't let him finish speaking before cutting him off.
"Are you comparing my Matt with that silly boy?" Lily growled.
"No. I was just—"
"You were just nothing! Let me handle my sons Benson. You don't have to be making them feel sad or anything. They are my responsibility!" Lily hissed as she walked out of the room to go after Matt.
For the poor boy to have become so cold and numb, she could only imagine what terrible things Benson must have told her dear son.
She walked past their room to the next corridor that housed Matt, Noah and Calhoun's room. They were far apart for the rooms were large but Lily still hissed at Calhoun's door, before taking Matt's direction.
She got to his door and knocked gently. "Matt, it's me," she said to the door.
It opened a few minutes later and Matt popped his head out. "Mom?" He asked with raised brows.
"Can we talk about it now?"
Matt shook his head before replying. "No, mom. It's fine. I want to sleep now and besides it's no big deal," he said.
Lily understood that he didn't want to talk about it yet. She took a deep breath and held his face in her hand. "Whenever you are ready to talk about it, I am here. Do not even hesitate."
Matt simply nodded his head before slowly pulling his door closed once again. What could he possibly tell his mother? Despite his father's behaviour, he couldn't afford for his parents to have a fight and then risk losing their inheritance. All he had to do was wait a while. Everything would be given to them soon. He would just have to be patient.
Lily on the other hand was leaving the corridor to the boys' room when she saw Ariana's door open. Of course, she couldn't just pass it. She waited.
Ariana stepped out with her eyes glued to her phone. Lily calculated her steps well and saw that she was coming in her direction. She waited for Ariana to step closer while Lily positioned herself in the corridor and as Ariana was typing away on her phone, she didn't see the trap awaiting her. She walked straight to Lily.
"Argh!" Lily released a nerve-wracking scream that shook the entire house.
Ariana was shocked as she raised her eyes to meet Lily's angry ones.
"Are you blind and stupid, or both?" Lily yelled.
