Chapter 198
"You brought that?" She asked referring to the envelope of money that solved her problems back then.
"Yeah, I was there the day they had both refused to give you money for the ticket. They didn't do it because they loved you... they did it because they needed you to keep early to feed them." He had his hands folded into fists as he spoke. The anger he had felt at that moment returned to him and he had the strong urge to blow something.
"I wanted to take you then but I saw how attached you were with them, I got scared... And then the fear grew into ego. Each time I thought of coming to take you, I told myself that too much time had passed and that you probably hated me already," Daniel explained.
"I am truly sorry Aria. If I could turn back the hand of the clock, I would have taken you with me," he said holding her hand with sincerity.
She pulled her hand from him and hugged him. How could she hate her brother? She lived every moment of her life hoping to see him and now that he sitting right next to her why would she be mad at him?
"I could never hate you, Daniel. Never," She said as tears rolled down her face. Calhoun was right, there was something they all didn't feel. Her father's death had indeed brought something good in her life —her brother.
"Thank you, Ariana. I have missed you so much!" He held her tight reliving all the moments he had wanted to hold his younger sister in his arm.
After a while, they just sat there once again. Daniel had his back resting on the park seat while Ariana rested on his chest. The scene was beautiful to watch. Some people who didn't know them thought they were lovers and not siblings.
"Tell me about your life now," Daniel whispered as he ran his fingers along her arm.
"A lot of drama but I have good news," she said suddenly remembering the wedding she was planning before she got this call. She sat up straight and smiled up at him.
Daniel watched her with pride in his eyes. He couldn't believe his little sister had grown to become this beautiful and smart young woman the cooperative world couldn't stop talking about.
"I am getting married," she rushed happily.
Daniel raised his brows as he large smile covered his face. "With the Lawson boy?" He asked. Of course, he recognised Calhoun the moment he walked in through the door. He was a son from the richest family in the city. He was also the owner of so many subsidiary companies. Who wouldn't recognise Calhoun Lawson?
"Yes, Calhoun and I are getting married," Ariana responded. Her cheeks were flushed and her heart fluttered happily.
"That's amazing! Congratulations Ariana. I am very proud of you!"
"Thank you!" She sang hugging him again.
"I hope I get an invitation though," he probes.
She pulled away from his chest and reached her hands to his cheeks. "I will never hold the wedding without you Daniel, who will walk me down the aisle?"
Daniel's smile broadened as he looked back at her. "Calhoun is so lucky to have met you," He said.
There was no need for him to ask if they loved each other. He had sensed the love from Calhoun when he had held Ariana so protectively while their mother blabbed on like some mad woman. He also saw it when he had handed her over to him.
"Come on let's get going, your fiancee must be getting worried," Daniel said as he rose from his seat. If they were leaving today which was very possible seeing how toxic Brenda was making the house— they had to leave now.
"Okay," she said holding unto him.
They walked hand in hand to the helipad. The happiness between them was contagious. They kept smiling and hoping this thing they had found would never end.
"Type in your number and Address, I will come to visit before the wedding," he said cheerfully.
"Somebody seems too excited," Ariana teased.
"Well, ever since I had realised the sort of parents we have, I had hoped I would be the one to walk you down that aisle," he said and Ariana leaned into him.
"You know, I have been so worried about that just today and I have gotten a solution without even searching for it," Ariana said.
They passed in front of their house and Ariana stared at it from a distance. It was a shame what a place she had loved the most turned into her worst nightmare.
"Do you want to go in and tell her goodbye perhaps?" Daniel asked her.
"No, I have nothing of mine in there. All I have ever wanted is right here in front of me," she responded as she turned her eyes to her brother and smiled. "Come on let's go."
They continued their journey till they got to the helipad. Calhoun and Lisa were already settled in the helicopter when the guards saw Ariana. They pulled the door open for her at once, "welcome ma'am."
"Thank you," she said with a nod. She felt Daniel stop and she turned to stare at him.
"Aren't you coming?"
"I will speak to him when I come to visit you. I have a few business to attend. I have to run," he said. He closed the distance between them and place a kiss on her forehead. "Take care of yourself, Ariana," he whispered before walking away. He turned around when he got some distance away and waved at her.
Ariana waved back and then watched till he disappeared from the helipad before she walked into the large helicopter that could be considered a private jet.
"The love of my life is back," Calhoun exclaimed and Lisa smiled at the both of them.
Ariana walked to Calhoun and sat beside him. Calhoun pulled her closer and placed a soft kiss on her lips. "Let's go home, I don't want to miss another moment without you on my bed."
