Chapter 36
Adulthood was just a facade, it was a position that you held to feel like you had greater responsibility. They said that if you were an adult you would never cry to your mother.
It was all a lie, it was all fake.
The ache in her heart was like pounding a needle into your palm.
"Mom," Aria said with a broken voice. She didn't want to break down on the phone.
"How are you dear, you never even gave me a call last month," Her warm voice was like the wind of the mid mountains. It was soothing and calming.
"I'm f..fine," Ariana replied before she swallowed the pain in her throat.
"You know you can't lie to your mother my dear. Tell me what is wrong?" She asked calmly.
Mrs brown knew her daughter needed her help, she felt the pain and the trauma her daughter was going through. She felt the need to listen to her daughter's voice.
"Mom," She called, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to flow.
"I'm fine," Aria said with a lump in her throat.
"No, you are not," The accuracy was like a cannonball fired at a ship that was slowly wrecking. That one hit made it all fall out. The tears she was trying to hold back, they gushed down Aria's face like water from a dam.
"S...sorry I didn't call, I... It was work I'm sorry mom," She cried before she choked on her own tears.
"Sweety you don't have to apologize it's fine, your mother is aware that it is work that keeps you busy, I just wanted to hear my sweet Aria's voice." Mrs. Brown said softly. She missed her daughter, she just wanted to hear her voice. Even if it was just for a second. Mrs brown yearned to know if her daughter was alright but listening to her. She was definitely not alright...
"Mom, I miss you, I miss home," She sniffed. Ariana felt like a big baby, but she didn't care. All she wanted was to come home and fall at her mother's leg, feel her mother's soft hands run through her hair, A luxury that could never be bought, no matter how rich you were.
"We all miss you, Ari, I need you to stop crying," Mrs. Brown said as she heard her daughter's silent sob. She didn't want to say it but her cries were like bruises on her heart. Ariana was in pain, She has never been the one to bear the burden of pain. Even as a child, Mrs brown was somewhat proud that her daughter was able to hold it for so long. If she never called she would have carried her pain to the end.
She had grown to become a strong woman. "I saw the news, I just thought I should call, how is it with Ethan?" Mrs. Brown said with hints of stress in her voice.
The call of his name bought back a certain emotion she was trying to suppress. Anger. She didn't want to talk about him.
"Mom, you sound stressed are you okay?" Ariana asked, she hated when her mom stressed herself.
"Don't change the topic on me, I'm old, so anything little thing will stress me, Tell me are you guys back?"
"Why would I go back to that coward after what he did to me?" Arian asked as her previous emotions were now filled with anger.
"I just thought you might have considered him after that video, Now I know my daughter isn't weak. You shouldn't be with someone who doesn't know your worth" Mrs. Brown said strongly.
"Mom? What video is that? How come I don't know about any video" Ariana asked confused.
"Oh, my dear, it is all over on the news how come you didn't see it?" Mrs. Brown asked her daughter.
"I'll check it when I'm done, Forget about me and my multiple problems, How are you, mom? How is dad? " She asked as she cleaned up the residual of her tears.
It felt good to release her pain, it was a relief, almost like the feeling an innocent prisoner gets when he gets released after a long time.
"Well I was in pain early but after hearing you I was healed," Mrs. Ariana said with a warm smile.
"ARIANA!" Alice's Loud voice echoed throughout the hall.
"Mom I have to go now, my boss needs my presence, I love you," Ariana said ad she awaited a response.
"Ok baby, call me soon. I lov—" The line went silent. It beeped three times before Alice's Voice came in.
"Come to my office now!" She yelled from her office.
Ariana dropped the phone back in its place and walked to Alice's office.
"Can I come in?" Ariana asked as she stood at the door.
"Oh no, why don't you stand like a scarecrow and watch out for birds at the front of my door!!!" She yelled and I winced at her extremely loud voice.
There was a door separating the both of them both it was loud enough to be heard on the last floor.
Ariana opened the door and walked into the office. The strong cologne that surrounded the room sent a sharp ache across her head and she hissed in pain.
"Hey what's the problem?" Alice asked as she read her expression.
"The Cologne." That was all Ariana was able to say.
"Why wouldn't my cologne give you a headache huh? You are too used to cheap one dollar veils of mist, my expensive taste and your radioactive smells have clashed and given you a headache." She said before she eyed Ariana from head to toe.
She was searching for something to say something bad about her but there was nothing to say. Ariana had a good sense of fashion and ideas...
"Anyways I called you in here so that you. Can fix me an appointment, find a way to make me free. I have a meeting with a CEO tomorrow " she said
"What company," She asked as she jotted down what she said.
"Place it as the Lawsons group," She said before she started to play with her hair.
