Chapter 43
Malcolm stared with wide eyes as Jessica placed the cellphone on her ear.
"No! Please Sir;" He yelled as he dropped on his feet.
"I have children and a wife at home, if you do this to me how will I be able to take care of them. My wife is also two months pregnant, " He lied so that Calhoun could pity his condition.
"I'm sorry for you miseries but your services are no longer needed here," Calhoun replied not giving him a glance.
"Please, don't do this to me, I'm sorry sir, I promise." He begged on his knees
His eyes widen as he stared at Jessica the way she pressed the dial.
"Please sir I promise it would be my last time I'll never repeat this I swear," Malcolm begged.
"Please hurry so we can start this meeting," Calhoun said ignoring Malcolm.
"Please sir I have a wife at home she's pregnant and I also have children sir please, I promise I won't do this anymore." He continued to beg in tears.
It was only a matter of seconds before two huge men popped into the room.
"We were called in sir," one of them said as he stood at the door with crossed arms.
"Yes mark please take out this man, his time in this company has expired," Calhoun said.
They looked sideways at the man on the floor before they turned and approached him.
The first one placed his arm under Malcolm's armpits and lifted him up. The second one was there to lift his legs up if he tried to be stubborn.
"Sir please have mercy on me I promise I won't repeat this!," He yelled this time around as tears flied down his face.
He couldn't this job not at all, it cost him everything he had to get here. He wasn't going to let this job slip away from his hands.
"Sir!" He called out as they kept on scooping him out of the conference room.
"Stop!" Calhoun called.
The two huge men stopped in their paths with Malcolm still in their hands.
"Drop him on the floor and leave," Calhoun commanded and they obeyed.
"Thank you sir!" He said with shaky hands.
"You see the people that supported you when you spoke, they are here staring as they are dragging you out of my office like a goat. Next time you repeat such acts I won't hesitate to strip you off of your position. I am the owner and the president of this company!" He yelled.
"I can decide if the I want the entire office to be on break for a whole month or a whole year, because it's my company! Is that understood" Calhoun said and the entire room answered in fear.
"Jessica please continue," Calhoun instructed.
Malcolm shamefully returned to his seat as he fixed his tie and collar. His once white shirt were now dirty and his trousers were no longer dark. They had patched of dirt's around it.
"So sir the company has been facing a little crisis. Once half of the employees have taken their lunch the other half would not have any, they have being complaining about weakness due to lack of food. They proposed that you had a look on it. "
"So, what about the money I increased last week? " Calhoun asked as he went through the files that were placed in front of him.
"Well, I asked Mrs Smith in the Food section, she said the goods in the market have become twice the price making everything to be insufficient." Jessica added.
"So what do you think we should do about that? Any suggestions?" He asked.
On his own opinion he suggests that they made the funds for the feeding thrice the price. But he wanted to hear what is greedy employees would suggest. He would then say it would cause loss in the company. They should just stop or close down that department.
"I suggest we close down the department," one of the men said.
Just as Calhoun had deciphered
"And why do you suggest such?" Calhoun asked.
"Erm, sir it would cause a loss to the company if we added more money to the food section." He said .
Another assumption Calhoun had thought.
"Any other suggestions?" Calhoun asked the crowd.
"Sir why not add food allowance to their salaries? Instead of tripling the funds." A woman's voice said.
Now that was not a bad idea at all —Calhoun thought to himself.
"I like your thinking, any other suggestions?," Calhoun asked one more time.
"Sir,, Mrs Smith suggestions were good but can I add something, sir?" Another man spoke.
"Yes you may continue," Calhoun gave permission.
"Sir, I think workers may prefer food compare to money, it's different when they say the companies gives food to all it's workers than when they say they provide food allowance, I don't know of I'm making any sense? " He asked.
"Yes I like you point, you don't have to say anything more," Calhoun said.
"Thank you sir," he said
"No more suggestions I guess," Calhoun said.
"Jessica the second problem,"
"It was about the promotion sir?" Jessica reminded.
"Yes of course, it had come to my knowledge that their had been a lot of corruption in the company, Mrs Smith please stand, Mr Lucas please stand." Calhoun commanded and they both stood up at the call of their name.
"Mr Calhoun has promoted you, as Executive managing director for Events and food related affairs and Mr Lucas you are now the Executive financial director. " Jessica stated.
"And as for the current problems, Mrs Smith, Mr Lucas handle it and send me your final decision. For those that held their previous position you have been demoted. This is meeting has been dismissed. " He concluded before he stood up to leave.
He walked to the elevator and pressed the fourteenth floor.
His office had the finest view in the building, it had a separate side for his Personal assistant, His secretary Jessica and his office.
Calhoun walked into his office and sat down. It had an headache already this early.
He looked at the files that were neatly folded on his desk and he started to scroll through them.
It seemed like only some minutes before his phone rang.
"Hello Mr Calhoun, Brentwood industries are here for the meeting," Jessica said.
"Okay, Escort them upstairs to my office, I don't not have the energy to down to the conference room." He said.
"Okay sir we will be there in thirty." Jessica said.
