Chapter 76
Aria was in a dilemma. She walked out of Calhoun's office and headed to the elevator like a Zombie. She still couldn't believe what she had seen with her own two eyes.
How could he be Mr. Lawson? Of all the people in the city, it had to be Carl!
"Oh my God!" She whispered as she got into the elevator. She couldn't think straight.
She felt ashamed, scared, and shocked all at once. She remembered the day she had gone to that cursed bar, to begin with. The way she had pointed at Calhoun among his guards.
She knew now that those men were his guards. The entire bar had gone silent at the sound of her voice. She was drunk at the time but she knew exactly what she was doing. The only problem now was that she had picked the wrong person. Calhoun wasn't supposed to be the president of the Lawson's group. He was supposed to be a sex worker.
"Aria, how did it go?" Zion asked shocking her out of her thoughts.
She was standing outside the elevator now and for a second she lost her sense of direction. She didn't know where she was headed anymore.
"Aria?" Zion grabbed her arm and she turned to stare at him with a blank expression. It took her at least three seconds to figure out who the man with glasses in front of her was.
"Zion?" She breathed as if she had just completed a marathon.
Zion pulled her aside to avoid drawing people's attention. "Did he reject you? Did Alice get to him?" He questioned her.
"Huh? No, he didn't. He gave me the day off..." She trailed.
Zion held his chest and breathed out in relief. "For a second there, I thought he had said something terrible. But do you two know each other?"
Aria passed her tongue over her lips as she tried to give Zion a very believable answer. How could she tell him, she had sex with him? Or that they met at a bar where she shamelessly threw herself at him? Or that they had somehow become friends and they tease each other or-
"Aria?" Zion shook her again when he saw that she was going into a panic. "You look like you have seen a ghost, are you okay?"
His phone started ringing and he had to let Aria go so he would take his call. "Hello?!" He replied.
"Mr. Lawson wants you to attend to Miss Alice Brentwood when she calls or comes over," Sarah said on the phone.
Zion frowned at what she was telling him. "Why would he want me to handle Alice?" He asked Sarah.
"I don't know Zion, you are our best manager. He trusts you," Sarah said before ending the call.
Zion dropped the phone into his pockets and turned to Aria. She was staring at him with wide eyes and beads of sweat have formed on her head.
"Did Alice do something?" She asked. Despite the conditions she had discovered about her job, she didn't wish to lose the job, she needed it.
"No, she didn't..." Zion said waving his hand dismissively. "Mr. Lawson wants me to handle Alice when she comes here or calls."
"So he isn't firing me?" Aria whispered.
Zion saw that she was really stressing over the job. No wonder their boss asked her to take the day off. "He isn't firing you Aria. You know what? Just go home and take a long nap, tomorrow I am sure you will be as good as new!" He said tapping her by the shoulder.
"I have to get back to work now, see you tomorrow!" He announced sweetly. Aria watched as he took long and precise strides to the elevator she had just stepped out from. This was serious. What would she do now?
This wasn't a situation she could just sleep and forget about. She started walking to the exit and thankfully, there were taxis lined up right after the building. She boarded one and it took her straight to her house.
Aria didn't know how she got home, her walk was like she was being pushed forward and her mind wasn't even there. Her kegs moved but they weren't controlled by her head. Everything had started responding on its own.
She was sprawled on her bed as she thought of her bad luck. How was she even going to work with him?
Fuck she couldn't talk to him for thirty minutes without getting horny! How much more having to work with him for long hours?
She would go crazy!
She should have never gone to that bar! She shouldn't even have drunk that much. That place was dangerous. The barman had told her. He warned her so many times. He told her to go home but she had stubbornly dragged someone as important as Calhoun Lawson to the hotel and all his guards saw her!
"Oh, God!" She exclaimed squeezing her eyes closed. There was no way those men wouldn't recognize her. They would know her.
To make matters worst, Calhoun knew all along and he riding even warn her! He allowed her to keep talking to him yet he said nothing!
Her phone rang out and she rolled over the bed to answer who it was. She got to the bedside table where she had dumped her bag and pulled out the phone.
It was Lisa calling.
"Hey, Lisa," Aria said. She tried as much as possible to hide her pain and trouble. She didn't want Lisa to start panicking.
"How did it go? Did you get it?" Lisa asked her. Lisa's voice echoed as she asked her question and Aria knew she was in the bathroom they used most times to check their makeup and hair.
"It went well. I got the job," Aria said.
Lisa furrowed her brows in confusion but she was happy for Aria, she was just too shocked to believe it.
"You are joking right?" Lisa whispered.
Aria smiled at her friend's question. She wished that was true as well. "It is the truth, Lisa. I have gotten the job."
"Congratulations! Oh lord!" Lisa said as she jumped with excitement. She was so happy the great Lawson had employed her friend. Finally, they could sort other things! But there was something in Aria's voice.
"But, Aria, you don't sound happy. Did something happen?"
The question presented itself again and Aria thought she would pass out.
