Chapter 92
"Argh!" Lisa screamed the moment Calhoun closed the door behind him.
Ariana placed her hands against her ears protecting it from the barbaric sound. "Lisa! You will bring the house down if you keep screaming like that!"
Lisa eyes sparkled with shock and excitement. Just as the emotions swerved within her body without control, she couldn't tell what exactly she was feeling in one second.
"Tell me that didn't just happen?!" She exclaimed pointed excitedly at the door.
Aria furrowed her brows in shrug and resulted to slumping on the couch but Lisa was not having it. She released another girlish scream and fanned herself.
"Baby girl! You are so made! Calhoun Lawson just asked you to marry him! Didn't you hear him? Why are you sitting and acting like you didn't just get the most exciting news in your life!?" She exclaimed jumping in over excitement.
Aria clutched the pillow she had brought with her from the room unto her chest and just stared at her friend with a scowl on her face. She didn't know what to think of whatever had just happened. She was certain her head was going to burst open with questions and at the end of it all, her heart would be broken.
Lisa saw the long look on her best friend's face and she toned down her excitement as she lowed herself on the couch close to her. "Aria, what's wrong? Don't you like him too?"
Aria heaved. That was the question she dreaded asking even herself.
"I don't know..." She trailed.
The truth was, she was confused. Ever since she had met Calhoun, she found him attractive even in her drunken state she craved for him among a sea of hundreds of men, her alcohol induced mind had still picked him.
The sound of his voice alone did things to her body no man had ever been able to do, not even Ethan.
The way he looked at her. The way he touched her, like she was worth more than she looked. She felt pulled towards him in every way possible. But did she want to dive into the feelings?
"Aria, you are saying, you don't know but your face as a smile on it and a distant look," Lisa said pointing a finger to her nose. "I think you have more to that sentence that you just don't want to let out."
Aria looked into Lisa's eyes for the first time since she had started squealing like a teenage girl. "Lisa, you know what happened with Ethan. Calhoun is not in my league. He is way above even Ethan! Will his family even want a nobody like me?"
Lisa's face brightened as if she was bathed in a fresh potion of laughter.
Aria raised her brow at the expression on her friend's face. "How is what I said exciting? Carl and I have so many obstacles. I don't even know how far we will go and you are smiling?"
"Aria baby, have you thought of why he rejected Alice fucking Brentwood?" Lisa said trying to mimic the way Calhoun had pronounced Alice's name.
Aria shrugged in response. "I don't know."
Lisa scooted closer to her and held her hands. "Well my dear friend, I tell you for free why he didn't want her... It's because he disgusts her. She isn't is type at all and do you know who is type is?"
Aria rolled her eyes as she finally saw where Lisa was going with her speech. "Oh, please. Tell me something else. He just wants me so he could keep getting free sex-"
"For the rest of his life! Baby girl he wants to marry you! You are going to that family thing with the Lawsons aren't you?" Lisa said in one breathe. She was smiling so much she looked like she would burst with excitement.
Aria couldn't keep a straight face anymore she laughed out loud. "Lisa can you calm down. I didn't say yes and you already act like I did?"
"Oh you will say yes! Forget about the fact that immediately after the news spreads that Alice Brentwood made a fool of herself on national television by trying to snatch the fiancee of her ex secretary, I will lose my job, gracefully and come work for the Lawson group. I am going to be a made of honor sooner than I thought!" She completed with a scream.
Aria threw her a pillow as she laughed at what Lisa was saying. When they had both calmed down.
"I think I like him..." Aria finally confessed and Lisa giggled.
"No baby girl. I think you love him and you should get your ass up we have a family dinner with the multi billionaires to catch up with!"
Aria started laughing again. Lisa was being impossible. "What am I getting my ass off to do?"
"For starters! You need a dress. Not too sexy but not too holy either. We want granddaddy Lawson to see your assets but not drool over them," Lisa said rising from the couch.
She started pulling Aria out of the couch as well and she whined in protest. "Lisa, the dinner is next week Sunday not tomorrow!"
But her whines fell on deaf ears. Lisa kept pulling her till they got to her room. "Don't you know the secret to slaying an event is to prepare for it at least a month early?"
Aria raised her brows as she trued not to laugh anymore. "Lisa it is a simple dinner. Not my wedding. A month early?"
Lisa frowned and tapped Aria by her upper arm. "Yes, a month! Now we don't have much time. What should we do?" She mumbled the last part to herself as she searched for the perfect dress in Aria's mountain of clothes.
They were mostly office wears and a few outdated dinner dresses she had already worn to the dinner parties organised at Alice's place.
"Oh no," she exclaimed and Aria moved to her side.
"What now? Do you need a year?"
"No, we have a fashion emergency. You do not have the proper outfit. We need to shop!" Lisa exclaimed and Aria went to the bed and fell on it.
This was surely going to be the dinner of a life time.
