Chapter 93
It was Monday morning and Calhoun wore a tight frown as he walked to his office. He had made Sarah schedule a meeting with Alice. She had to explain to his face why she went on to do something so stupid on national television.
He had to hold back during the weekend fr going to her house and just call her out. For his reputation and Ariana's sake he had held back. Now he couldn't just wait to get it over with. The proud daughter of a Brentwood had to know who to fuck with. No one messed up with Calhoun Lawson's affairs and went away with it.
"Good morning Sir!"
Calhoun moved his eyes to the direction of the voice and saw Zion smiling politely in front of him. He simply nodded and continued to his own private elevator. But as he started walking down the corridor, Zion followed behind him. He stopped and turned to face him.
"Is there something you need to tell me?" He asked sternly.
Zion adjusted his glasses and clutched the file he was holding even tighter like it would protect him from Calhoun's wrath.
"The thing is, Miss Brentwood is here..." He trailed.
Calhoun narrowed his eyes at Zion. He had left strict instructions on how they were supposed to attend to her. But with the way Zion was acting, it meant they didn't do what they were told.
"Where is she?" He asked.
Zion pulled his blue tie from his neck slightly as if the piece of clothing was preventing air from passing down his throat. "Your office." He gulped.
Calhoun fisted his hands in anger and bit down on his teeth. This was exactly why he asked Ariana not to come to work this week. It wasn't just about she taking a time off —even if that was important too. His main reason was so he could give Alice a piece of his mind without them clashing. He wouldn't be able to take it if Alice said something rude to Ariana, he might just hit her and cause a scandal.
"How did she get in?" He growled.
Zion looked like he would melt away in the corridor they stood at. "I- I tried." He stuttered.
Calhoun hissed and continued on his way, leaving Zion to battle with his words. He had to give Alice a piece of his mind. He would handle Zion and Sarah later.
Calhoun pressed the right button to his floor and waited impatiently for it to reach the top floor. It took less than a minute but Calhoun felt like it took him forever to get there.
When he stepped out, he pulled open the side buttons of his suit jacket and took long strides to his office. He pulled the door open and he was shocked to find Alice Brentwood sitting on his chair like she owned the place. She was facing the window, twirling a pen like she was the CEO.
What arrogance!
"Alice!" Calhoun growled throwing the door closed with a loud bang.
Alice jumped out of the chair in fear. She scampered to her feet and held her bag at once. "Calhoun!" She squealed awkwardly.
"I didn't hear you coming in... Hy! How was your weekend." She went on without knowing where exactly to start from. She didn't plan for him to meet her sitting like that. She thought it was the annoying manager again.
"Step away from my seat!" Calhoun barked and Alice moved aside at once.
Calhoun walked to the seat and dumbed his briefcase on it. The laptop inside probably received a dent on the top part.
"I was so delighted when I got your message. It was everything I could ever ask for. I really care about you Calhoun, and I have taken a step to—"
"Who gave you that, right?" Calhoun asked. "What gave you that liberty to play games with my life on national television?"
"But a lot more people have done it. You didn't react at all..." Alice thought aloud as she fumbled with her hair.
Calhoun released a cold laugh as he looked down on the table. "Those people, I didn't pay any attention to them because it didn't affect the one I love. But your statement affects the one I want in every way! I want you to stop. I want you to never bring it up again. Because any day I see or hear anything about you that affects my love, I will do something you will regret."
Alice was left in shock. She had never heard Calhoun with a woman. She had never even seen.
"You have a lover?" She whispered in shock.
"Yes, I have a lover and I plan on marrying her. I don't want you hurting her in your foolish baseless declarations! " Calhoun barked and then dropped on his seat in anger. He had said his mind and now it was left for her to either accept it or stubbornly continue in those ways.
Alice just stood watching her. A part of her was telling her it was a lie. But then he had never done this to any other person before. Could it be true? She would have to tell her sister to find out about this!
"Calhoun, what about our business?" She tried. If they couldn't talk about relationship right now, they could at least talk about their contract.
Calhoun raised his head with a frown as if just remembering they still had a deal. Then his cold eyes met hers, "Zion will mail your company. I am canceling!" He announced and Alice felt her heart slice.
Cancelling the contract will do more harm to her company than to him. This was supposed to bring a merging between the two companies. She would have gotten more investors and more sales due to the connection.
"Calhoun you can't do this..." she squeaked.
He stopped what he was doing and glared at her.
"What you mean by that statement? Why can't I do it? Are you the president's daughter?" He relaxed into his chair and faced her squarely. "What does my company stand to gain in all of these?"
Alice was about to give a tacky response when a door she never paid attention too opened behind Calhoun and Ariana stepped out with files in her hands.
"Ariana, what are you doing here?" She screeched almost falling out of her chair in shock.
