Chapter 99
"You think this is good?" Ariana asked Lisa for the tenth time. They had decided on a body con blue dress that had a white bow on the right shoulder. It was simple but with the right amount of class. Yet, Ariana still felt uneasy.
"Do you think Carl will like it?" She asked Lisa as she twirled around so she could get a better view of herself.
"Aria, please just get out of the house already your questions are getting old!" Lisa groaned from her corner on the bed.
Ariana glared at her from the window and Lisa just waved her hand in boredom.
"Ask more interesting questions like will his grandfather find me charming or will his cousin Matt find sexy?" She said throwing a spoon of ice cream into her mouth.
Ariana turned around in shock. "Cousin? He has cousins?" She shrieked.
Lisa hung her spoon of ice cream mid air and glared at her best friend.
Ariana looked like she would cry. She moved closer to the bed and sat down. "He has cousins? I mean, every one has cousins but do you think they will all come?"
Lisa shook her head and dropped the cup on ice cream in her hand on the bedside table.
"Aria baby, you are going for a meet and greet lunch with one of the biggest name in the city. And you didn't even bother to read about them?" Lisa asked her. There was a bit of disappointment in her voice.
"I expected better than this Aria! You are one of the best personal assistant I have met in my life and you don't do something this basic in your own life?" Lisa cried out.
Who doesn't research about the people they are about to meet these days?
Ariana played with her fingers as anxiety ate through her body system. She knew that she should have researched on them, that was the first thing she should have done. But she had preferred to think she would be dealing with just the grandparents and not the entire family. Beside how was she supposed to know that Calhoun would invite every other member of his family? They never called or came by?
"Lisa, this is not the time to scold me. He will be here soon. Please just brief me up. How many people am I meeting?" Aria asked her.
Lisa rolled her eyes and took a deep breath as she tried to count the entire Lawson family in her head. "At least eleven people but a full house is almost fifteen family members."
"Oh my God!" Aria exclaimed covering her mouth. She hadn't thought of such a large number. "Why didn't Carl tell me?" She cried out in frustration. She was on the brink of turning down the whole thing. She didn't even know them, how was she suppose to relate with so many people.
Lisa raised her brow and watched Aria as she racked her head about what to do. She could almost hear her thoughts but Lisa let Aria speak her mind.
"I think I will cancel!" She whispered sharply.
Lisa almost slapped her in anger. "Why would you do that? You already agreed to this and now you want to back down? Not possible. My hard work in putting together this outfit won't go to waste! You will go!"
"But Lisa, what do I even present myself as! I know nothing about Carl! What would they think of me?" She cried out running her hand through her pulled back hair.
Lisa held Aria's hands away from her hair so she wouldn't mess it up. "Calhoun will tell them who you are to him. You don't have to think so much about it. Besides I think, Calhoun is too sweet for him to worry about what his family think about you. That guy wants to marry you babes!"
Ariana pulled her hands away from Lisa at her statement. "Marriage? Don't think so far Lisa. I am not so certain about this whole thing. What if his family have a large impact on him?"
"Aria, you said it yourself. You have never seen or heard of any one of them! What does that tell you? They are not so important! The only important ones are his grandparents and you should try and impress them instead!" Lisa encouraged her.
Aria looked at her friend warily. Lisa was usually a sort of person that would advice her to run from a situation than face it. What was happening?
"Are you saying this because of his money? " Ariana asked her.
Lisa narrowed her eyes at Ariana. "No and yes. Yes, because I want you to be happy and money is a good thing to have. No, because I think you love this guy. If you didn't you wouldn't think so much about this!"
Ariana wanted to protest but the sound of her door bell was like the last trumpet in the holy bible. Her heart started thumping so fast in excitement and every doubt she had about not going anymore vanished.
"Here comes your prince charming!" Lisa sang jumping to her feet. "Come come!" She said running to open the door for Calhoun.
Ariana got up and checked herself one last time in the mirror. This was it... There was no going back. She picked up her white clutch and walked out of the room.
"Good afternoon, Lisa. I hope you are not here to send me away again? " Calhoun asked and Lisa blushed.
He was wearing a white shirt with blue checkered pants that went so smoothly with his perfectly gelled hair.
"Of course not," she replied with laughter in her eyes.
Lisa led him to the living room to wait for Ariana but he didn't have to wait at all for Ariana stepped out of the room and Calhoun found himself drooling at her.
The blue dress she had chosen went so well with her eyes and it brought out all the perfect points in her body. He could already imagine his aunt Tessa whistling at the sight.
"I am ready," Ariana whispered.
Her cheeks had gone pink as she blushed at the way he was staring at her like she was the most beautiful thing in the world.
Calhoun snapped out of his trance and stretched out his hands to her. "You look beautiful my Ariana."
