I quietly fed my baby as I waited for Achilles to return home, four hours have passed and I didn't even get a mind-link from him. I was worried sick, I couldn't feel anything through the bond so I'm assuming everything is going well. The dread that I felt didn't vanish, it had only grown stronger as the minutes passed by. I burped our son before setting him in his swing, I chuckled as he started giggling.
I made my over to the window, I looked out of it hoping is see him walking back, but there was no one there. I let out a frustrated breath, if he isn't injured then I'm definitely yelling at him for causing me to worry so much.
For the next two hours I aimlessly walked around the house, I cleaned up our room, I cleaned the kitchen, and then I would relax and feed the baby. I ran my hand through my hair so many times that it was now staying in place. I bit my lip, I was tempted to shift and run out there, but Achilles would be pissed. So, instead, I sat down in the kitchen and twirled around in the spinning chair.
I jumped up when the front for slammed shut and two sets of boots marched through the foyer. I sniffed the air, this wasn't Achilles or Reese. My eyes widened as I saw my son sleeping in his crib in the family room, motherly instincts took over as I sprinted over and growled. I guarded the crib with my body, baring my canines at the two men.
They seemed stunned to see me here, their eyes mirroring their puzzlement.
"I thought you said she was with Achilles." The taller man grumbled as he glared at the shorter one.
The shorter man frowned, "You were in charge of that." He snapped back.
I rolled my eyes before checking on my son, I then looked back at the bickering men. I bit back a growl as the scent of hunters radiating off of them.
"What the hell are you doing here?" I snarled.
They looked at me with amused eyes, the taller one smirked. "Well, we were supposed to grab a document...but I think grabbing that and you would really make our boss happy. Jerold grab the document."
As he was looking at the shorter man I shifted and lunged at him. With ease I snapped his neck and bared my teeth at the other man. His eyes were wide with disbelief, I almost laughed. Pathetic.
He got out of his daze and slipped a silver dagger from his waist. Anger burned within his eyes as he lunged at me. I easily dodged him and sunk my teeth into his ankle. He cried out in pain, but managed to kick me in the face with his other foot. He climbed back to his feet and glared at me.
I growled and attacked him again, not thinking it through. I let out a howl of pain as he plunged the dagger into my shoulder. I fell to the ground, whimpering and in pain. I glared at him though, I truly underestimated him.
I stood back up, making sure to keep weight off my one paw. He smirked, there was a glint in his eyes.
"Bye bye, Luna." He sneered.
My eyes widened as he went to stab me again, but someone else grabbed his hand. He screamed as his wrist was squeezed until the bone snapped. I looked over to see Achilles glaring at him with black eyes. He let go of the man and threw him to the ground.
"Reese, take him to the dungeons. Make sure he can't escape." He ordered.
Reese nodded and pulled the man up by his hair. Achilles sighed before looking at me, his eyes no longer black. He knelt beside me and stroked my fur, a soft smile on his face.
"Shift back, baby girl." He whispered.
I couldn't help by cry as I shifted back, once I was in human form he cradled me again this chest. The pain was now worse, it spread through my arm. I felt as if someone was squeezing my arm while it was broken.
"Shhh...you're okay." He assured me, standing up.
My vision swam as I searched for our son, "Reese's mate is on her way to watch him. You need to go to the infirmary."
"It'll h-heal..." I whispered.
He kissed my forehead, "Not when there was vampire venom on it. Along with liquid silver. I can your wound already burning." He said, concern laced throughout his words.
I nodded, defeated as I started to fall asleep.
"I don't feel good." I mumbled. "What was on it again?"
"Vampire venom and liquid silver. You won't feel good until it's out of your system." He explained.
My eyes started to close as darkness took over, I could hear Achilles' worried and panicked voice, but I couldn't make out what he was saying.
I winced as the pain sliced through me, I could feel hot tears pooling in my eyes, but I refused to let them go. Achilles kept rubbing soothing circles on my back, telling me the pain should be gone soon. Who knew that vampire venom could be so damn painful, it feels as if someone is stabbing me repeatedly. The doctors had to pin me down a few times since I was trying to claw at it, not my fault, it's just my instinct. Achilles refused to leave the whole entire time, stating that he has to be here for me. I was thankful for that, he's the only one keeping me from attacking any of the doctors who pin me down.
Apparently they have to let the venom make its way through my body before my immune system handles it. I didn't bother to listen to them explain how my immune system takes care of it, all I got out of it was werewolves have weird-ass immune systems. Another hour passed before the pain became duller, allowing me to relax a little. Achilles ran his fingers through my hair and kissed my cheek every now and then. I slowly opened my eyes, wincing at the bright lights. When I could see I turned to see Achilles reading a newspaper.
I raised an eyebrow, "You read?"
He snapped his eyes to me and scowled, "I can read." he grumbled, placing the paper down.
I chuckled, "I'm shocked."
I could see the amusement in his eyes as he leaned over and kissed me on the lips, when we parted he studied me. "How are you feeling?" he asked softly, stroking my cheek with his thumb.
I sighed, "Better."
"The doctor said you'll stay here overnight, just to make sure the venom is fully out of your system before you leave." he explained.
"Okay."
For the rest of the day, Achilles spent his time with me. He would mind-link Reese to bring the paperwork to him so they don't have anymore threats of wars over "deez nuts". I still laughed at that, earning a smile from Achilles. When he had to leave I easily got bored and resorted to annoying the doctors with multiple useless questions. They eventually stopped coming in except for once an hour. Even the nurses stopped, though I'm pretty sure the one is jealous because she has a crush on Achilles. Hope she knows I can see her staring at my mate any chance she gets, once I'm free from the hospital I'll nicely tell her to stop. Well, at least what I consider nice.
"So, what kind of cat-
"Luna, please, stop asking so many questions." the doctor sighed, finally having enough of my shit.
I pouted, "Not my fault it's boring here."
She chuckled, "I know how you feel, just don't ask me multiple questions. Ask the nurse that hates you."
"Oh, you've seen it too!"
"Yes and she's constantly talking about you, she's new to the pack and hasn't figured out yet that you're the Luna. She believes you're his girlfriend."
I gaped at her, "You're kidding me, right?"
"Afraid not, she's not the smartest."
"Hmmm....allow her to come in here as my nurse. I'll make it known that I'm the Luna."
"Will do."
I waited patiently until that nurse walked in, she gave me a dirty look and proceeded to check everything. I smirked, "So, you hate me, huh? Jealousy is such a bitch."
She glared at me, "I'm not jealous."
"Sweetie, I can tell you have a crush on my mate. I can smell it too." I stated in disgust.
I could see the smirk trying to make its way onto her face, but one growl from me and she frowned. I sat up and grabbed her by the collar. I could see the fear in her eyes, it only made me want to smile.
"I'm his mate, which means I'm the Luna. We marked and mated, we have a son together. Get off your damn high horse and find your own mate. If you don't have one anymore, then find yourself a choice mate." I said sternly, not wanting to deal with this crap.
She swallowed, "I-I didn't know!"
I scoffed and let go of her, "You should have, it's not very hard...especially when all the nurses have been calling me Luna."
She gulped, I just stared at her in annoyance. I'll never understand people these days, they don't use their minds half the time. They're either blinded by lust, power, jealousy, and so on. The only thing I'm blinded by is anger when I see my mate or anyone I love, injured. I looked up as the door swung open, revealing a grinning Achilles.
"Doctor says you can go." he sounded as he kissed me on the head.
"Good." I yawned, getting up.
The nurse didn't say anything as she took out my IV, she listed off what I should do when I get home before taking a step back. She didn't look at Achilles once, her eyes were glued to her shoes. I felt guilty for being so rude towards her, I hate myself sometimes. I told Achilles to wait outside, he frowned but turned and walked out to the hallway. When the door closed I released a breath and looked at the nurse.
"I'm sorry for being so rude, but you need to be more careful about who you fall for." I stated, giving her a small smile as she looked at me.
"I'm so sorry, I...I thought...I didn't listen to the other nurses." she whispered.
I chuckled, "It's fine, as long as you learned your lesson. Now, do you have a mate?"
"No, he rejected me a year ago. He was already married and was raising three children, I didn't want to take that away from him. But I've gotten bitter since then."
"Then start searching for your choice mate or sometimes, if the Moon Goddess sees her mistake, she'll give you a second chance mate. You'll find him one day."
She gave me a smile before helping me off the bed, I swayed a little, but eventually got the feeling back in my legs. She handed me my clothes as I walked into the bathroom and changed. I thanked her with a hug, whispering that she'll find the one someday. I then left with Achilles, who was enjoying teasing me. I playfully glared at him, but when I saw the light in his eyes and that smile, I couldn't help but smile as well.
