"So, you didn't catch Darrel?" I asked as I laid in the bed, wincing at the sharp pain in my shoulder.
Achilles sighed, "Unfortunately, we couldn't even track his scent."
"And none of the other packs found him?"
"No, no one. I spoke with all the Alphas, Veloces said he'll keep a lookout."
I shook my head in dismay, after seeing what Darrel had done to Achilles it proves how much of a danger he is to werewolves. I was worried for Veloces and Vanessa, they're already dealing with their own enemy and now we have a hunter on the loose that knows almost everything about us. Hopefully his focus stays on us, I know we could easily kill him when we find him. I looked up when Achilles laid on the bed, a frustrated look in his eyes.
I sighed, "Why don't we watch a movie? We could use some relaxation."
He nodded and laid beside me, gently wrapping his arm around me and pulling me close. I switched on a random movie and relaxed against my mate, smiling. Reese's mate told us she would take care of our son until I'm better. I was thankful for what she's doing, but I couldn't help but feel guilty. I mean, that's my baby and I should be taking care of him, along with Achilles. We both wanted to spend time with our baby, but I kept going in and out of consciousness, which would only be dangerous if I'm carrying our son or something.
The doctor explained to me that the venom had something else mixed with it, making it harder for my immune system to get rid of it. I was slightly annoyed by this information, but I knew the doctors weren't at fault. Achilles wanted to kill the man who stabbed me, but I told him we should try to get some answers out of him before we did so. I wanted to know what document he was talking about and why they wanted it so much.
"What are you thinking about?" Achilles sounded, looking at me.
I yawned, "Just wondering what document they wanted so bad and why they wanted it. The only documents we have here are the people within the pack."
"Well, we also have documents about any past pack wars, rogue attacks, and hunter attacks. Though, there's not much information within the hunter attack documents. All it really is, is the number of deaths, who died, what hunters we caught and their names."
"Well, they might be looking for a certain hunter and we might have him in the dungeons right now. Wait, are there any hunters besides the one we caught?"
"No, any hunter caught during those attacks were executed three days later, in front of the whole pack. Those hunters you caught that told you about the factory I was in were also killed. Except for the one who told you everything, we made sure his death was quick and painless. I was going to let him live..."
I gaped at him, "You were?"
"Yeah, I figured he told you where I was so I was going to allow him to live. I was going to wipe his memory...but one, that medicine may be too strong for humans, and two he begged me to kill him. Telling me something about him dying anyway once their leader found out he told you." he explained.
"Their leader? As in Darrel?"
"Actually, no, he's like the co-captain. He told me that the leader never tells anyone his name, Darrel is the only one who knows."
"Do you think maybe your mom and step-father would know?"
He shook his head, "I already asked, my mother told me that no one from my father's group have ever seen a hunter. And anyone who was caught never returned."
I sighed in defeat, "This is frustrating."
"I know, but we'll get through it. The first step is to double our patrols and find Darrel, also that she-wolf that went with him. There was no blood or anything that showed he forced her to, there wasn't even any traces of silver or wolfsbane. Which means...."
"She went willingly." I finished, frowning. "Did she have a mate?"
Achilles shook his head, "No, she's been looking though."
"Then...maybe she went with him because he's her mate." I whispered.
Achilles nodded, "That's a big possibility...I know for a fact she wasn't a fan of hunters since they murdered her friend."
"Then...why wouldn't she reject him? If he was her mate that is."
"Because she's been desperate for her mate, she came here from a pack in Colorado. Her parents shunned her because she couldn't shift. She ended up shifting here."
"Oh."
I sighed, if Darrel is this girl's mate I highly doubt she'll let us anywhere near him. I bit my lip, maybe we could figure out why he hates werewolves so much. If a werewolf killed someone he loved then we could show him that not all werewolves are like that. I admit, if we can somehow talk him out of all of this, putting what he had done in the past is going to be hard. Even if he wasn't the one who actually tortured Achilles he still made the orders. I furrowed my eyebrows, if he's a hunter then why was he working with werewolves?
"Achilles."
"Yes?"
"The diaper is on backwards."
He frowned as he stared at our oblivious son, I chuckled softly, earning a scowl from him. I gently got in front of him and fixed the diaper, smiling when our son giggled.
"There." I grinned.
He ran a hand through his hair, "I don't understand this."
"You'll get it someday." I laughed as I kissed him on the cheek. "So, any news on Penelope and Darrel?"
"Unfortunately, no. Veloces hasn't seen him, they don't even have a hunter's scent on their territory." Achilles sighed.
I frowned, "I just find it strange. They just disappeared."
"Reese believes he's back with his boss, probably planning something huge."
"Oh, fun." I replied sarcastically.
I sighed as I cradled our son against my chest, I gently stroked his cheek, I then planted a small kiss on his forehead. The thought of Darrel getting in here and taking my son casued me to growl softly.
"He won't take him." Achilles assured me, already knowing what was going through my head.
I didn't say anything as he wrapped hid arms around my waist and pulled me against him. We both watched our son fall asleep as the moonlight illuminated the room. I smiled, this little bundle of joy is one of my reaons to find this hunter. To be the strong Luna that I know I can be and protect this pack. My other reason was Achilles, he may be my mate and the Alpha, but even he needs someone to protect him.
I kissed our son on the head once more before placing him in his crib. I made sure he was okay, I then allowed Achilles to guide me out of the nursery.
"How is your shoulder?" He asked quietly.
I released a breath, "Way better now, I'm just struggling to get my appetite back."
"Well, the doc did say you'll be sick for a little while." He replied.
"Can I start training again? If Darrel is planning something...I have to be able to fight."
He grinned, "Of course."
"Ow, damn it, Achilles!" I snapped, shoving him into the wall.
He chuckled, "You seriously need to work on your fighting."
I flashed him an irritated look, "You are an asshole."
"I know."
"Seriously."
He laughed, "Do you want to fight Reese instead?"
I pursed my lips, it was two in the morning, I really didn't want to wake him up. He's a pretty chill guy, but if he's sleeping, it's safer to just let him sleep. The other day, Achilles had tried waking him up and ended up being thrown out the window. We all learned quickly, do not wake Reese.
"No. I'm good." I stated.
