Chapter 23
"Fuck, let's go," I jumped from his lap in excitement and hopped around the kitchen, trying to wear my heels. He quickly grabbed the car keys and I snatched it from his hands.
"What do you think you are doing?" he gave me a puzzled look.
"You are drunk," I raised my eyebrows and walked out of the kitchen to grab my bag.
"I had one drink," he groaned, placing his hands on my hips, twirling me around.
"That was enough to make you go crazy," I glared at him and he sighed in defeat.
"You were about to say something before the call, what was it?"
Fuck.
"Ummm.....you--I--I think I forgot, we should hurry." I stuttered like a fool and changed the subject while he narrowed his eyes at me.
It wasn't the right time.
"We are continuing this conversation later," he captured my lips, kissing me deeply and I kissed him back, melting in his arms.
"Bad timing, Ash." He muttered under his breath, making me laugh. We both rushed out of the door and soon we were on the road. He let me drive and I was driving like a maniac.
His words.
God, I was in love with his car. It was so fucking smooth and sleek.
"Jesus, Are you trying to kill us?" he put on his seatbelt, panic evident in his eyes.
"Live a little," I laughed as I swirled past the cars around us, enjoying the rush of it. He shook his head with a small smile. We reached the hospital in about 5 minutes and made our way towards the first floor. The hospital was fairly crowded and as we reached the maternity ward, we noticed Jake pacing around in the hallway.
"Dude, what the fuck? You should be inside with her," Austin chided him and I could see beads of sweat on Jake's forehead. He looked so tired and exhausted, like he hadn't slept for days.
"Where do you think I was before?" he gave Austin a death glare, making me chuckle a bit, "She is scary, Emma. I've never seen her this mad. She swore never to have sex with me again and hit me so hard," he ran his hands through his hair in frustration and we both laughed at his misery.
"She is in pain, what did you expect?" I folded my arms in front of my chest in a challenging manner.
"Can we see here?" Austin asked and he nodded.
"She is still having contractions, come on." he pushed the door and we entered to find an exhausted Ashley, lying on the hospital bed, her hair sticking to her face and she looked like she was about to past out.
"Hey, Ash," I went closer to her bed and held her hands.
"I don't think I can do this, Emma. Don't you ever get pregnant," she groaned in pain and I smiled at her, pushing the hair off her face and kissed her hands.
"It's just a little pain, babe. I know how strong you are, so suck it up and get my godchild out already. We are all here for you," she let out a weak chuckle, "I'm so proud of you," I smiled and squeezed her hand as my eyes started to tear up.
"Thank you for coming," she sniffled, looking back and forth between me and Austin, "And you guys came together?" she had a confused look on her face.
"Uhhh...we will talk about it later," I winked and saw her scrunching her face in pain.
"Okay now, only the father, everyone else out, now." We heard the doctor shout from behind and I quickly kissed her forehead.
"Stay strong, Ash." Austin kissed her cheek and I pulled him outside before the doctor could throw us out.
"Damn, that looks painful." he sighed and sat down on the chair outside the room.
"Yeah, I'm so excited for them though." I grinned, sitting down next to him. He took my hands, lacing his fingers between mine and I rested my head against his shoulders. We both remained silent and I couldn't help but wonder how it would be to have a baby with Austin. I know it was way too soon and we were just exploring our relationship but the thought of it brought a smile to my face.
"What are thinking about?" he whispered, stroking my hands in a soothing manner and I lifted my head to look at him.
"Have you ever thought about having a baby?" I blurted out and saw the blood drain from his face, "Are you---no, that's not possible...," I rolled my eyes, chuckling at his reaction.
"I'm not pregnant, jerk." I hit his arm and he laughed at my response, " I am just asking like, have you thought about it? Wanting to start a family and stuff like that? If you are not comfortable, you don't have to say," I gave him a small smile and he cupped my face with his large hands.
"I'm comfortable with you and thanks for making me feel that way," he kissed my cheeks and I blushed a deep red. It was a simple action but it made my heart flutter with happiness, "And to answer your question, I haven't really thought about it. I never wanted to settle down in the first place but now I'm trying which I never thought would happen. Maybe, I might be interested in the future," he paused and looked at me, "In fact, I don't even know how I feel about babies," he let out a nervous chuckle and I smiled at his honesty. I didn't know what to feel by his response but I was glad that we were having an intimate conversation.
Baby steps!
"I get it and I'm so glad that you are trying," I smiled at him, playing with the buttons on the sleeve of his suit, "It makes me feel special,"
"You are special, sweetheart," he gazed into my eyes and I closed the gap between us by crashing my lips to his. I didn't care that we were in the hospital and tugged his hair, pulling him closer to deepen the kiss. He groaned and I could feel him smile against my lips. Someone cleared their throat and I immediately pulled back, turning to see Jake, standing in front of us with a sly look on his face and a bottle of water in his hand.
"I'm so glad that I'm not the only one Ashley is gonna kill," he stated in an amused tone and I could see Austin panic in fear.
"Dude, I'm not fucking around. Please don't tell her anything, she is scary like you said,"
"Not fucking around? Yeah sure," Jake scoffed as he sat down next to Austin, taking a sip of water from the bottle.
"Austin and I are dating," I stated with a huge smile on my face, making Jake spit the water all around him. He looked like he had the biggest shock of his life and stood up from his seat, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
"Dating? As in going out?"
"Yes," Austin replied with a huge grin.
"Like more than just sleeping? You are dating?" Jake pointed at Austin, stressing on the word 'you'. He was trying to process the whole thing and it was so funny to watch.
"Yes."
"Like exclusively?"
"Yes." We both said in unison and I laughed at the way he was reacting. He kept looking back and forth between us with wide eyes before breaking into a smile.
"Wow...Jesus, who would have thought? Where have you been all along, Emma? This guy never dates, like ever," he smiled at me and I just shrugged like it was not a big deal but I was screaming inside with happiness.
"He just had to meet the right person," I winked, using his own words from earlier.
"Touché," he winked back at me and patted Austin's shoulder.
"Enough with the winking, I'm right here," Austin grumbled, making both of us laugh out loud.
"Man, this is gold. I have never seen him jealous at all," he tried so hard to control his laugh as Austin glared at him.
"Don't tell Ashley yet. I'll tell her on my own," I told Jake and he nodded in understanding.
"She is crowning," The nurse opened the door, calling Jake inside and he rushed through the door.
"Crowing?" Austin asked me with a confused look on his face.
"It's a pregnancy term, the baby is about to come out." I smiled at him and he nodded, kissing the side of my head. I placed my hand on his chest and relaxed against him, loving the feel of his arms around me.
After 20 mins, we saw Jake emerge from the room with a huge smile on his face, his eyes were all watery.
Awww, he was crying.
"It---It's a girl," he stuttered and Austin went over to hug him. I couldn't fight back my own tears as the air around us was filled with joy and happiness.
