Chapter 33
Avery's POV.
"Now that's the kind of dream I never want to wake up from," I muttered to myself, smiling childishly.
I am on my bedside lap and checking the time.
A frown appeared on my face, "oh common, this is just a few minutes to four." I said, hitting my leg on the bedside table.
I lay back in bed, trying to get over my disrupted sleep, I just don't understand why I woke up.
Waking up is easy but going back to bed and closing my eyes to sleep is the hardest part of my rest.
I kept tossing around the bed hoping to go get some good sleep but as always, my eyes refused to be responsible.
"Kira?" I called but she was silent.
"Silly wolf, you should learn to express your feelings," I mumbled to her but she kept quiet.
Strange.
I decided to let her be, she can be awkward at times.
I decided to take a bath and go look around the pack, it was a beautiful morning.
I sluggishly step out of my med and strip myself of my nightgown as I make my way to the bathroom.
I made a hot bubble bath for myself. I needed it to quench my raging sexual hormones. I felt as if that dream was real.
I want it to be real.
But I can't afford to get intimate with Xander at this point in time, he might mark me, just like he did in my dream.
I relaxed in the bathtub and decided to revive those sweet dreams.
I know it's gonna be difficult not to think about Xander, he's everything I want, but the idea of hurting him at the end of everything is choking me. It's filling me with guilt and holding me back.
I can't get too close to him now, after three years, I'll be as good as dead.
How will he cope while I'm gone? I know what mating did to a lot of wolves. Finding one's mates is joy and bounding itself, the bond becomes stronger if the mates love each other.
Xander loved me right since high school, I made a mockery of his love and even made life miserable and embarrassing for him but yet his love for me never withered away.
I could see the joy on his face the day he found out that I was his mate. What kind of man is that?
He loves me, despite the ill-treatment I've meant to him, how did he manage his love up till now?
The question keeps popping into my head and I have no one to answer them.
Kira, who was supposed to keep me company , is giving me silent treatment.
What's wrong with that wolf?
"If you have something bothering you Kira, voice out, keeping mute won't solve a thing. Just letting you know." I muttered, becoming irritated by her silent treatment.
She didn't make a sound, such a selfish wolf.
The bath did wonders for my body, I felt refreshed and smart.
I don't want any drama this morning, I'm gonna take a stroll down the pack, get to know my people, and check out the training room.
I'll start my training once the elders give me feedback.
I'm done being a weakling.
As I stepped into the room, a beautiful scent wafted through my nose.
Xander!
Kira howled excitedly.
I immediately followed the trail but it led me out of the window.
I felt a wolf's shimmering eyes bore into mine and I gasped, "Xander!" I nearly shouted.
I miss his company so much, when he left... I tried to mind-link him but he thwarted every attempt I made.
I know I've hurt him, but he can't just keep ignoring me.
‘Xander, are you alright?’ I created a mind link immediately.
He only made a painful whining sound, and before I could ask more, he blocked me out and leapt off the roof.
I tried to shift and follow him but Kira wouldn't comply.
"Please Kira, he's in pain. I have to go to him, please." I begged Kira, my voice filled with urgency and worry.
But the stubborn wolf refused to surface, he scuffed at me and went silent.
"You can't choose to be stubborn now, our mate is in pain. Just let me go and comfort him." There was urgency and desperation in my voice but that didn't move my wolf.
‘He's in pain alright, but who's responsible for the pain? You Avery! It's all you! Why bother yourself when you're the cause of the pain in the first place? I'm not gonna comply with you till you're willing to think straight. ’ She talked for the first time and I could feel the anger in her voice.
I slumped to the floor and started to cry. I just want him to be saved, that's what I wish for him and nothing else.
I don't want him to experience the pain of losing a mate, he's still so young and vibrant.
I can't see him suffer. Please, Kira, stop being such a hard nut to crack.
She didn't say a word again, she only scoffed and went silent.
Two angry wolves, I just can't deal with this right now.
I got up, headed to the bathroom, and washed my teared face.
I'm becoming such a crybaby, but I'll be fine.
For now, I'll go with the flow.
I dress up quickly in a small shot and crop top, I want to feel the warmth of the breeze on my skin.
I headed down, I wanted to stop at Shannon's room and say hi to her but I decided against it. I'll see her later.
I need to put my action to work, there's no time to waste.
The palace was still very quiet, I headed to the servant's quarters, hoping to see something fun there but they were all up already.
Going about their various functions, I don't know how to get along with them.
I wasn't so close to anyone except Shannon, Erik, and my parents in my past life.
I never really made any real friends, Shannon made me believe they are meant to serve us, making friends with them is like demeaning our status, and I readily agreed.
I always agree with whatever she says, I believe she's more experienced and better at socializing than me, and I always play second fiddle whenever she's consigned.
I loved her and I always listened to her, I believe she knows best.
"Hello." I greeted one of the servants, she was way older than me.
She looked up at me, trying to get my face figured out.
She quickly went down immediately knew who I was.
The other servants were a bit surprised, and they peered at me curiously.
I felt embarrassed and I quickly stood her up.
We have thousands of servants and only a few are allowed to come to the main palace, the rest stay in the servant quarters.
"My luna...what are you doing here so early in the morning? If you have any need for us, you could have called the attention of the main palace servants." She said gently, taking me to a seat.
The other servants were shocked to hear that I'm Luna, and they quickly bowed their heads.
"Please, address me as Avery, I won't be offended. I do not need anything. I just want to check on all of you." I said calmly, and I could swear they were shocked. The royals have no business with the servants, there are designated wolves for such duties.
"It's an honor to have you here, Luna Avery." I heard a young voice behind me.
I saw a young vibrant girl, she has the most unusual eyes I've ever seen.
"My name is Leilani Whitlock, I'm a new servant here. This is for you." She said, handing me a beautiful flower.
She's beautiful, her straight black hair and most unusual eyes complement every bit of her.
Something in me felt excited, it was almost as if I knew her from somewhere, but I couldn't place it.
"Thank you, Leilani Whitlock, it's a pleasure to meet you, hope you find my pack quite welcoming?" I asked as I took the flowers from her.
She nodded an affirmative, she seems quite my age and beautiful, "were you expecting me before Leilani?" I asked, surprised by the beautiful flower bouquet.
"Will you be surprised if I say yes?" She asked, her voice sounding excited.
She's a vibrant one, full of energy, but I still felt like I'd met her before.
"Well...I won't be surprised. It's a mysterious world, dear."
The other servants stared at us as we chit chatted.
"Leilani, come here this instant! Are you done with the garden work?" The eldest servant asked.
"Yes. Do you have more work for me?" She asked, in a jovial mood.
"Of course. There's always work to be done." She answered.
"If you don't mind, I'll like Leilani to join me for a walk," I said, and the woman immediately agreed.
"Tag along Leilani. I want to find out more about you."
She followed me.
I knew deep within that I knew her from somewhere, but where?
