Chapter 12 : The War Begin
╰───────────────────⋞╯
Two hours had passed, and the sky began to bleed into shades of orange and violet as the sun dipped toward the horizon. One by one, the group prepared to leave. After Fin and Hana out of the room while holding hand. Frey noticed a strange, blossoming chemistry between them. Anton and Luna were whispering and laughing, seemingly inseparable, while Teru and Maya walked out side-by-side, their shoulders brushing in a way that suggested their bond had deepened through the shared trauma of the carnival. For everyone else, life was finally moving forward.
As Aira turned to leave last, Rika’s expression shifted. "I’ll be right back, Brother. I just need to see our guests out," she said with a sweet smile. But the moment she stepped into the corridor and closed the door, her face hardened into marble.
Rika followed Aira until they reached a secluded, dimly lit wing of the hospital. With a subtle flick of her wrist, she cast [Void Silence]. The ambient hum of the hospital vanished, replaced by an absolute, suffocating stillness.
"I don't know what kind of creature you are," Rika’s voice hissed, echoing with a thousand years of malice. "But let this be your final warning. If you dare to crawl near my brother again, I will make sure there is nothing left of your soul to bury."
Aira didn't flinch. She turned around slowly, a provocative smirk dancing on her lips. "Oh? The cute and innocent little sister is finally showing her claws?" She stepped closer, her eyes shimmering with a faint crimson light.
"You can’t stop me, Rika. When Frey held me that night, when he gave me that warmth and safety when the world is burning, when everything is exploding... I realized he is the only one meant for me. He’s my destiny, and I don't plan on giving up."
"Destiny?" Rika laughed, a cold, jagged sound. "You’re an ant dreaming of the sun. You’re nothing to him."
"And you're just a parasite clinging from his past," Aira countered, her voice low and venomous.
The air between them cracked.
Rika’s patience snapped. With a surge of dark energy, she tore open a portal behind Aira and lunged forward. Aira, with a calculating grin, didn't dodge. She allowed the force of Rika's strike to hurl her backward into the rift. In a flash of violet and red, the hospital corridor was empty.
They materialized hundred of thousands kilometers away, in the heart of a vast, uninhabited mountain forest. The silence of the wilderness was instantly shattered.
The forest, which was once peaceful, instantly turned into a nightmare. Rika screamed in anger as four massive, black wings made of shadows erupted from her back. These were her [Wings of Catastrophe]. Every time she flapped them, the air itself seemed to rip apart. She moved like a bolt of black lightning, flying straight toward Aira with a punch that could crush a mountain.
Aira didn't move. She stood her ground as a brilliant, hot red light covered her entire body. When every Rika’s fist hit Aira’s shield, the sound was louder than a bomb. The shockwave was so strong that every tree for miles was snapped like a toothpick.
"You think you can just walk into his life?!" Rika roared, her shadow spears raining down. "You’re just a cheap distraction! A girl who appeared yesterday trying to act like she matters!"
Aira’s eyes widened, shocked by the sheer weight of Rika's dark power. But she didn't back down. She slammed her fist into the ground, and a wall of red crystal exploded upward, shattering the spears. "A distraction?" Aira laughed, a sharp and mocking sound. "I’m the one he saved, Rika! I’m the one he held in his arms, and that's why I know he is mine!"
BOOM!
Aira Fires a blast so powerful that Rika was sent flying through a mountain, but she came back instantly, her face twisted in a terrifying smile.
"He held you? He saved you? He only did that because he’s kind, you pathetic brat! He would save a stray dog the same way he saved you. Don't think you’re special!"
Their collision sent a shockwave that leveled every tree within a five-mile radius. Rika summoned rain of obsidian blades from the sky, each one capable of piercing dragon scales, but Aira conjured a shield of hardened magma, shattering the blades into dust.
They moved so fast that the air around them began to ionize, creating artificial lightning that turned the night into day.
Mountains crumbled as they used the peaks as stepping stones. Rika’s shadows began to rot the very earth, while Aira’s light purified and reforged it. It was a long battle and a stalemate of cosmic proportions, until the ground beneath them began to groan.
A colossal entity, the size of a mountain, rose from the earth. It was a Void Strider, a nightmare from the realm between worlds that had slipped into Earth before the Guardian's barrier was fully formed. Its many eyes glowed with a sickening hunger.
"I am trying... to have a serious talk... with this brat!" Rika hissed, her shadow wings growing so large they covered the moon.
"I was just about to punch her face!" Aira screaming, her red aura exploding so brightly it looked like a second sun had appeared on earth.
"You ugly, oversized worm! HOW DARE YOU!"
The two rivals, who were just trying to destroy each other, suddenly moved in perfect sync. Rika flew up and used her shadows to create thousand of sword in the sky. At the same time, Aira dived into the ground and came out right under the monster’s chin, her fist glowing with the heat of the earth’s core.
"GET OUT OF THE WAY!" they both screamed at the same time.
In a terrifying display of synchronized destruction, Aira’s punch sent the monster’s head flying upward, and Rika’s shadow blades came down like a falling sky, slicing the creature into a million pieces before it could even blink. The Void Strider, a creature that could destroy a kingdom, was deleted from existence in less than three seconds.
They landed on the broken ground, the silence feels very heavy. As the dust settled, they standing face to face, staring at each other across the wasteland they had created.
The forest went dead, the only sound is the heavy breathing of two girls standing in a what of their own making.
"You're strong, I’ll give you that," Aira muttered, her hair slowly turning back to black. She wiped dirt from her lip and looked at Rika with a smirk. "But later, when he wakes up, I’m the one he’ll be happy to see. Not a creepy, obsessed little sister."
Rika stared at her, her eyes like empty pits of black. "Keep dreaming, brat. I’ve waited a thousand years for this. I’ve killed things much bigger than you just to get back to him. You’re just another fly I have to swat away."
Aira watch with a smirk, her heart still pounding with a mix adrenaline. "A thousand years...? Fine, Let’s see who he chooses later"
Rika looked at her watch and clicked her tongue. "It's late. Brother will be worried if I'm not there when he eats dinner. I don't want to make him sad because of some brat."
Rika opened a purple portal, stepping back into the shadows. "Go wash your face. You look like a mess. I’ll see you when you came at *our* house."
"I won't give up on him, Rika," Aira declared, her voice firm and steady.
Rika disappeared into a shadow rift without any more word, her silent answer echoing in the cold mountain air.
When Rika take her leave, Aira fly to see everything. "Sigh, look at this mess. We can't leave it like this."
Aira closed her eyes, placing her palms on the earth spear she just created. After that, she send A wave of vibrant, red light to illuminate over the forest. Like a film playing in reverse, the fallen trees stood back up, the craters filled with fresh soil, and lush greenery exploded back into life. Within minutes, the thousands of kilometers of leveled forest were pristine, as if the battle had never happened.
After seeing everything normal, Aira prepared to teleport back.
The war for Frey’s heart had officially begun, and the world was just the playground for their obsession.

The next morning, the sun rise with a gentle warmth, filtering through the hospital windows. Frey and Rika stood in the lobby, ready to leave.
Before they stepped out, they met Doctor Romar one last time. Frey expressed his deepest gratitude, still amazed by the miracle that had restored his face and his sister’s leg. Romar simply nodded, his eyes darting briefly to Rika with a look of hidden fear before wishing them a peaceful life.
As they sat in the back of a taxi, the city blurred past them. Frey leaned back, feeling the fresh air on his smooth skin. He turned to Rika, who was looking out the window with a content smile.
"So, Rika," Frey started softly. "Now that you're feeling better... how is school? I've been worried about you being alone while I was in the hospital."
Rika turned to him, her eyes bright and innocent. "It’s actually been wonderful, Brother! Ever since my leg healed, I feel like a new person. And those people who used to be mean to me... the bullies... they’ve just stopped. It’s like they’ve disappeared."
Frey let out a long breath of relief, reaching over to pat her hand. "I’m so glad to hear that. I always hated that I couldn't be there to protect you at school. Knowing you're happy makes all of this worth it."
Rika leaned her head on his shoulder, her smile widening. She didn't tell him why the bullies had disappeared, or the cold terror she had left in their hearts before she arrived at the hospital. To her, those memories were trash, only Frey’s mattered.
When they finally arrived home, Frey stepped through the door and paused. He expected the dusty, cramped apartment they had left behind. Instead, the air was filled with the fresh scent of lavender and citrus. The floors were polished, the windows were sparkling, and everything was in its perfect place.
"Rika... did you do all of this?" Frey asked, looking around in awe. "It’s so clean. It feels like a different house."
Rika puffed out her chest playfully, a proud blush on her cheeks. "Of course! I wanted you to come back to a home that was as perfect as your new face. I spent hours making sure every corner was just right for you."
Frey felt a surge of warmth. He pulled her into a tight, genuine hug.
"Thank you, Rika. You really are the best sister I could ever ask for. I feel like I can finally breathe again."
For a moment, they just stood there in the quiet house.
The rest of the evening was quiet. Frey, still recovering his strength, spent the hours lounging on the sofa. They watched TV together, Rika curled up at his side, her hand occasionally brushing his as they shared snacks. As night fell, the trauma of the Night Carnival seemed like a distant dream. Frey eventually fell into a deep, peaceful sleep, safe in his home.
The next morning, Frey woke up early. He walked into the bathroom and stared at himself in the mirror.
He traced the sharp line of his jaw and the clear, unscarred skin of his cheeks. He felt like a stranger in his own body, but a stranger who was finally allowed to be happy.
"Brother! Breakfast is ready!" Rika’s voice called out from the living room, energetic and sweet.
"Coming! Just a minute!" Frey called back.
He dressed neatly, choosing a fresh shirt. When he walked out, the table was set with a breakfast that looked like it belonged in a five-star hotel. Rika was already wearing her school uniform, looking perfect.
They ate together, the conversation light and full of small laughs. The clock on the wall ticked toward 06:47 AM. Rika stood up, grabbing her school bag.
"I have to go now, or I'll be late," Rika said. She walked over to Frey and wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug that was just a bit too tight, and long. She whispered into his ear, "Stay home and rest, okay? Don't let anyone disturb you. I'll be back as soon as school ends."
She pulled away, gave him one last lingering look, and stepped out the door. Frey waved her off, smiling. He sat back down, enjoying the silence and the taste of the coffee Rika had made.
