Xia He wanted to discuss with Deng Fan about her staying over at Qiao Mei’s place for a few days. With Xia Zhe’s return to the army, there was only the helper at home with Qiao Mei. As for Qiao Qiang, he was already old, so how could they make him worry about these things?
“I…” Before Xia He could say anything, Qiao Mei quickly stopped her. “I know what you’re going to say. You just got married, yet you keep coming to my place. I don’t know what other people are saying about you!”
“I don’t care what others say! I only care about your health! Your current state is really worrying. You’ve lost so much weight,” Xia He said with heartache.
“I’m doing quite well at home now. I only laze around, eat and sleep every day. I don’t do anything else and leave everything to Sister Feng. I’m doing very well so don’t worry. If you’re really worried about me, then come and see me every day after work and ask my brother-in-law to take on more work at the factory,” Qiao Mei said with a smile.
Xia He sighed resignedly. Qiao Mei was a very stubborn person. Once she made a decision, nothing could change her mind. For now, it was better not to make Qiao Mei angry or anxious and just let her be.
He Mei sat by the window every day and looked out. She did not even have a television set in the house. The only thing she could do to amuse herself was to talk to the helper, but even then, she was just talking to herself.
He Ning was very careful. The helper he found for He Mei was an illiterate mute who could only hear and not speak. No matter how He Mei threatened, the helper would not satisfy any of her requests.
One day, during the daytime, He Mei changed into an inconspicuous set of clothes and sneaked out when the helper was distracted. She was not only to stay put obediently as He Ning instructed. Otherwise, she would be bored to death in that house!
She was very good at escaping now. As long as she did not have someone watching her 24 hours a day, she would be able to find a way to escape. This was all thanks to the Xia family sending her to that mountain region.
She had only left the capital for half a year and things had changed a lot. Many of her favorite restaurants had shifted to other locations and many boutiques had also closed down. She was now penniless and could not spend as freely as before.
As He Mei turned around, she suddenly saw a familiar figure. It was a person who was not tall and had wavy hair. This was Qian’e! Why was she dressed so… fashionably now?
The bag which Qian’e had over her shoulder looked branded and expensive. Her clothes looked like they were bought from the boutiques. Even her shoes were not those tattered sports shoes she used to wear. What exactly happened to Qian’e? Did she suddenly win the lottery and become rich?
Just as He Mei was wondering, a man suddenly appeared beside Qian’e.
“You ask me to come here just to buy these things?” Han Chen looked at Qian’e unhappily while holding many bags in his hands.
“You’re the one who said that you would satisfy one of my wishes because you made a mistake and said that I had done the data report wrongly! I didn’t ask you to come! You’re a man and the eldest young master of the Han Corporation. If you go back on your word, then I don’t know if I can still trust you in the future and continue to work with you,” Qian’e said disdainfully.
Han Chen had been in a bad mood recently. There was no way he could be in a good mood after knowing that Qiao Mei was pregnant again! He wondered why he did not get to meet Qiao Mei earlier so that he could have himself a capable wife. If so, the Han Corporation would definitely be able to become the market leader in the capital in less than three years!
He kept finding ways to vent his anger. All the staff in the company were very afraid of offending him. If one was not careful, one might trigger him and make him furious. Qian’e was unfortunate enough to have a meeting scheduled with him during that time.
Qian’e was very confident of all her reports and was certain that there could not be any major errors in the data like what Han Chen said. After they spent more than two hours verifying the data, Han Chen was proven to be wrong.
“I’m carrying your things for you, aren’t I?” Han Chen muttered softly.
Qian’e smiled in satisfaction and pointed at the shop next door. “I still have to go there to take a look! Come with me! You can’t leave until I’m in a good mood!”
Even though Han Chen felt unhappy about it, he still followed behind Qian’e obediently. He Mei tailed them secretly until Han Chen sent Qian’e back to the factory.
“No wonder Qian’e can afford to wear such nice clothes! This man gave them to her! She must have hoodwinked this man. There is no way that a normal man would want to be with Qian’e! A previously married woman without a womb is not worthy to be in a relationship!” He Mei said agitatedly.
