Chapter 84
~Alistair~
It had been twenty-four hours since the Venator family had tried to take us down. They were lying in a room which they couldn’t escape from, and had probably woken up about an hour ago, but they were still trying to recover from the transitioning they had had to undergo.
“They should be all right by now,” Aunt Salome said.
“Gather the elders. Let’s go and check up on our new recruits,” I said, with a sly smile.
She nodded her head, then turned around to go and get the elders.
I admired Aunt Salome so much. She was a very strong woman, and despite losing the love of her life just yesterday, she was already back to living like she always had. She didn’t even seem to be hurt, and kept on giving everyone orders and commands, but I could tell that she was only trying to hold up.
I felt really sorry for her. She had given all her life to caring about the welfare of all the werewolves in Crimson moon pack, and had done only what she thought was right just for the sake of her people. To have been repaid in this manner was just not nice at all, but she accepted it with a smile, and I knew that she was definitely going to be all right. She deserved to be just fine.
Eliana had left yesterday to pick Ian up from school, and take care of him. She was supposed to be back by now, but she had probably just oversleep. After everything that happened yesterday, she deserved to have peace of mind and sleep like a baby.
The elders arrived in no time, and at my signal, the gate of the room which was more like a prison was opened to reveal the state of our enemies, who looked ashamed and confused.
“What... What have you done to us?” Aiden asked, looking at the long black hairs on his hands and legs.
“With time, you’d learn how to control hairs from just popping out of your skin,” I replied, with a smirk playing around my lips.
“You turned us into werewolves?” Denzel asked, with his eyes wide open.
“What do you think they were trying to do when they bit us on our neck? You are no son of mine, you don’t even know anything about these monsters!” Melissa screamed, in anger.
“Well, I guess he’ll know more about these monsters now, since he’s now a monster as well,” Aunt Salome said.
“Kill me. Just kill me! I would rather die than live like this,” The great grandmother said, with tears rolling down her cheeks, as she showed how totally and completely disgusted she was.
“I am tempted to fulfil your wishes, but I doubt Eliana wouldn’t like that,” I said.
“Eliana? Why would you care about what Eliana likes? Now way! Is she on your side?” Melissa asked, in complete and utterly disbelief.
“Of course, she’s on their side. I knew it, and I tried to warn you all. I never trusted her from the very first day she came to plead her allegiance to us. My guts told me that she was up to something, and my guts never lie. You know what my gut is telling me now? It’s saying that she was the one who did something to that potion,” Santana said, looking really pissed off.
“Well, you’re not far from the truth. Eliana has always been on our side, and I mean, why wouldn’t she be? She’s the mother of my son after all. How dare you try to kill her son’s people? How dare you!” I yelled at them, so much that they shuddered.
“My great grandson is a werewolf? Impossible,” The great grandmother said, shaking her head, unable to believe what I had just said.
“It’s very possible. How? Boy meets girl, they fall in love, despite the fact that they are from two different worlds. Boom! They have a child. It’s just like a fairy tale, except that this one actually happened in real life,” Aunt Salome explained, wearing a sly smile.
“This is way too much for my heart to carry. Just kill me now,” The great grandmother said, in a pleading tone.
“Why are you in a hurry to die? You will get your chance, don’t worry. After all, you’ve lived long enough. It will be so delightful to see you become the very things you hate. I just want to see you transform first, and watch you despise who you’ve become. Death will come, but until you’ve gone through that anguish, I’ll do everything within my power to ensure that you live,” I said.
“I don’t want to live this way. Take my life, please. Please!” She begged.
“Is there anyone who wishes to be taught about how to handle their new abilities?” Aunt Salome asked, ignoring the pleas of the great grandmother, Melissa, Santana and Aiden.
“I don’t know about you all, but I’ve always thought that being a werewolf is cool. Now, I get to have powers that I’ve only seen exist in stories, and I feel it’s going to be a beautiful experience,” Denzel said, standing up.
“You’re right. Instead of wallowing in shame and being angry, we should be thankful that they didn’t kill us, but transformed us into something so magnificent. It’s going to be hard to be a doctor and perform surgeries with these abilities, but I’m willing to learn how to control it,” Another relative who had been silent all this time said, standing up.
“Traitors! Both of you are Traitors!” Melissa screamed.
“Is there anyone else who is interested in learning about their new selves?” Aunt Salome questioned.
No one said a word, and they all muttered cuss words at us. I gave a signal, and while Denzel and the other man were released, the gate was shut against the rest of them.
“Won’t you feed us if you’re going to leave us here as your prisoners?” Santana asked.
“You’re now werewolves. A little hunger won’t hurt,” Aunt Salome said.
They began to push the gates and struggle to open it, but they couldn’t do it.
“You shouldn’t waste your time. The chains which hold this gate have been spelled, and you won’t be able to break free, so, just do yourselves a favour and sit down without making a noise. Attempting to open this gate is just like pouring water into a basket; it will be fruitless,” I said.
Melissa got very angry at my words, and slowly, she began to transform. Her claws sprang out, along with her fangs, and her eyes had a yellow glow. She began to growl and push the gate harder, panting heavily like an animal.
The others stopped back, being afraid of her.
“Take this monster out of here! She’s a monster!” The great grandmother yelled.
As Melissa heard those words, she lost it and began to act like a lunatic. She turned around to find her mother so that she could teach her a lesson for calling her a monster, and in an attempt to defend their mother, Aiden transformed into a werewolf as well, and they began to fight.
It was fun to watch, and I was aware that more of them were going to keep transforming, but I couldn’t stay to watch all that. There was a CCTV camera in the prison, and I would watch what they were up to during my leisure time. For now, I had to attend a meeting with the elders, so we could discuss about how to give the ones who had died because of this war a befitting burial, and how to take care of the little girl who had been a survivor now that her family was no more.
“Let’s go,” I ordered.
“Go? They’ll kill each other,” Denzel pointed out, obviously still having filial love for his mother.
“If the roles were reversed, I’m sure your mother wouldn’t have cared. However, I’m going to have some guards stationed here, so that they’ll make sure things don’t go bad,” I said.
He heaved a sigh of relief. “Okay, thank you,” Denzel said.
“You made the right decision, trust me,” I said, patting his shoulder.
He was about to say something, when Aunt Salome interrupted the conversation. “We should go. The meeting has to be held now, so that we can all go home and rest. We’ve been here since yesterday; we all need to rest,” She said.
“You’re right. Tell everyone the meeting will start in ten minutes,” I said.
“Alpha Alistair,” A guard called, coming into view.
“Yes?”
“Miss Venator wants to see you privately,” He said.
“You mean Eliana?” I asked, trying to confirm what he had just told me.
“Yes. She came in a few minutes ago, and she is waiting for you in your chamber,” He said.
I saw Aunt Salome trying to hide her smile.
“Do you know why she wants to see me? It seems like you do,” I said to her.
“Just go and see her yourself, in order for you to hear it from the horse’s mouth,” She said.
“I’m not in any kind of trouble, am I?” I asked.
She smiled. “You’ll be fine, dear. I’ll organise everything we need for the meeting, while you speak with her. You should hurry up. It wouldn’t be nice if we’re left waiting when we’ve all gathered,” She said.
“Thanks, aunt,” I said, giving her a small pat on the back, as I began to walk away.
I didn’t know Eliana was already back, and as I approached my private chamber, my heart began to beat fast. I was worried about why she requested to have a word with me in private, and I hoped that I hadn’t done anything to hurt her feelings.
If she was annoyed by something, I couldn’t tell what it was because I had tried my possible best to not do anything that will hurt her emotionally or physically. I had made a mistake yesterday, but she had told me that all was forgiven, and I could sense that she was being sincere about it.
Bracing myself, I opened the door, and as soon as she heard me come in, she turned away from the window, where she had been standing and watching the birds of the air fly.
“Hey,” She said, walking towards me.
She was putting on a white flare dress, with floral designs, and her hair was styled in a way that while one part was pushed to the back of her ear, the other covered her face. There were diamond studs on her ears, and she wore strappy silver sandals.
“You look so beautiful in that dress,” I said, admiring her from head to toe.
“Thank you. I can’t remember when last I put on a dress, and I decided to put this on today. Ian gave it to me for my 34th birthday this year,” She said, wearing a lovely smile.
“Oh, he did?” I asked, surprised at his kind heart and good taste in fashion.
She nodded her head, in the affirmative. “Yes, he did. He saved his pocket money for months to be able to buy me this lovely dress, and after all this trouble we’ve been through, I felt we should all just go out to have a lovely meal today at a fancy restaurant, which I can’t wear a pair of jeans and shirt to,” She said, still smiling.
I smiled back at her. “I like that idea. We deserve to have a treat today, and you certainly look more beautiful wearing a dress, although I can’t help but feel jealous and wonder what Ian will get me for my next birthday,” I said.
She chuckled. “I hope he does get you something,” She said.
“Is this why you wanted to see me? I have a meeting that I have to attend to urgently, and if that will be all, you could just wait here and we’ll go home together once I’m done,” I said.
“Yeah. Um... Alistair, I just wanted to say that about yesterday...”
“I am so sorry about what happened, I swear,” I said.
“I know, Alistair. I just wanted to tell you not to be sorry about the kiss, because you mentioned that you were sorry about it. I wasn’t sorry, and I just wanted to let you know that I was happy that it happened,” She said, avoiding my eyes.
My heart fluttered as she uttered those words, and I smiled broadly at her, then touched her cheek. “I was trying to act like a gentleman, and I thought you weren’t happy about it, and that’s why I apologised. Honestly, I’m also glad that we kissed yesterday, and I want to do it again,” I told her.
“Then, what are you waiting for? I didn’t apply any lip gloss, and you should wet my lips for me, shouldn’t you?”
I didn’t even try to argue with her, and just held her hair, then tilted my neck. Her eyes closed abruptly, and my lips found their way to hers, as I plastered them gently against hers, kissing her in a way that showed that I had truly missed it.
“I love you so much, Eliana. Living without you all these years brought me immense pain, and I never ever want to lose you again,” I told her, some moments later, slightly parting my lips away from hers.
“I love you, too, Alistair. I tried to lie to myself that I hated you, but even with a broken heart, I never stopped loving you, ” She said, as a drop of tear slid down her face.
I wiped away the tear with my thumb, then pressed my lips back on hers, savouring the milky sweetness that lingered on in her tongue.
The battle had been won, the love of my life had found her way back to me, and my child adored me. The universe had finally been merciful to us, and after going through a whole lot of trouble, we could finally get to live, with unending joy.
