Chapter 85
~Jennifer (Jenny)~
While Alistair and his silly ass werewolves were busy fighting their sworn enemies, The Venator family, I, on the other hand, had a plan in mind that was going to forever break his heart.
I knew he was going to win in his fight against Eliana’s foolish relatives, and I could tell that he had succeeded, especially since I had seen Eliana and some other werewolves leave the meeting room, which appeared to just be an old building, unscathed.
Today, I had spotted her driving back to the meeting room, a had overheard her speak on the phone with Garrett's wife, Carrie, with whom she had pleaded to pick up Ian from school, and it had brought a smile to my face. It was going to be easier to carry out my plans, since Carrie was involved.
In order to delay her, I had had Sam drop off a bunny in front of her clinic, which I had infected with an ailment. Carrie was never going to ignore a sick animal, and I was sure of that because she seemed to be very interested in animals. Not only had she earned a degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, she had also earned a degree in Zoology in the school where she had met Eliana, and now, her love for animals was going to put her in trouble with Eliana.
Eliana was never going to forgive her for deciding to take care of an animal first before going to pick up her son, despite the fact that she had trusted her with the boy. Worst still, Eliana was going to blame herself for not taking care of her son and picking him up herself, instead of going to help out Alistair, who obviously had his problems under control.
I saw Ian come out with a lady in glasses, who was obviously a teacher in the school. I cleared my throat, and walked towards them, hoping nothing spoilt my plans.
“Are you Carrie?” The teacher asked, as soon as she saw me approaching them.
Before he could open his mouth to reply in the negative, I decided to speak up. “No, I’m not Carrie. I’m her sister. Eliana called her to ask her to pick Ian up, but something came up, and that’s why she sent me to come get him instead,” I lied.
“Oh, I see. I trust he’s in safe hands,” She said.
“Of course, he is,” I said, with a broad smile, which was faked.
She entrusted him into my hands, and with a wave of the hand, she walked away.
“How are you, little one?” I asked him, smiling down at him. The smile wasn’t fake this time around, as he was a really cute child, and he looked exactly like Alistair.
“I’m okay. Are you really Carrie’s sister?” He asked, throwing me a suspicious look.
“Of course,” I said, taking him by the hand, as I led him to my car, which was parked just right outside the school.
I wondered why he would ask such a question, knowing fully well that I had tried my best to look responsible today, just like Carrie usually did, in case there was ever any doubt. My tinted hair had been covered with a black wig, and I was dressed in black office pants, and a blue shirt, with flat black shoes.
Immediately we got to the car, I smiled to myself, believing that I had finally won. It was a shame that such a cute child had to die due to his parents mistakes, but my hands were tied. Alistair and Eliana had to pay for all the pain they had caused me, and I wasn’t going to back down from my plan just because their child had adorable brown eyes.
However, as soon as I opened the door of the backseat, so that he could get in, his hand slipped away from mine.
I was startled. “What’s the problem?” I asked.
“You’re a liar. You’re not Carrie’s sister; she has dark skin, and your skin is pale...”
“That’s because we’re stepsisters,” I yelled at him, angrily, interrupting his sentence.
“Your heart just beat faster, which means that you’re lying. I can also sense that there is something off about you...there’s anger in you, there’s hatred and you want to do something very bad,” He said.
I was taken aback, and my mouth flew agape at his words. “Did you...have you triggered your abilities as a werewolf?” I asked, in surprise.
He nodded his head, in the affirmative. “Yes, I have. Also, I can see the resemblance you share with Garrett. You’re his sister, aren’t you? I’ve heard my mum, dad and Carrie and her husband talk about you. You’re the reason my dad hurt my mum, right? You’re a wicked person,” He accused.
I began to laugh, boisterously as he uttered those words. “It’s funny how everyone just blames the villain, without caring to know the reasons behind their actions. Won’t you agree with me?” I asked.
He shook his head, disagreeing. “There is no excuse for doing something bad; that’s what my mum says. She also says that everyone makes mistakes and does bad things every now and then, but once they accept their wrongs and change their ways, all will be forgiven. Have a good day, ma’am,” Ian said, and in a twinkling of an eye, he had ran off with the speed of lightning.
I felt like smashing my car, as I saw him take off. I had never expected that he would have triggered his powers at such an early age, but what could I say? An apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Indeed, he was Alistair’s son.
Running after him would be a waste of time, as I had spent enough time with him in order to know what he smelled like. I was just going to trace his scent, and find out his location. Hopefully, he wasn’t that smart enough to mask his scent, but even if he was, I knew the first place he was going to run to at a time like this.
Moving to the driver’s seat, I opened the door, and sat down heavily, heaving a deep sigh. He had been trying to tell me to stop making excuses, accept my mistakes and apologise, as well as turn a new leaf. His mother had taught him well, but I was too far gone to change my ways. I didn’t feel too good about killing an innocent child, but I knew that I’d eventually be fine knowing everyday in my heart that Alistair and Eliana were living in sadness.
After a few minutes, I turned the key in the ignition, then began to drive, following Ian’s scent. It wasn’t hard to find him, as he was exactly where I thought he was going to be. Poor Alistair. He should have thought the boy how to mask his scent in case he was ever been followed, but then again, he probably never thought that was going to happen. Perhaps, he had felt that things were always going to be peaceful and blissful them. Oh! How wrong he was.
I parked directly in front of Carrie’s clinic, just as soon as was fixing the “closed" sign on the glass door. She didn’t see me or notice my car, and I just laughed out loud. Did she really think that even if she made everyone assume that she wasn’t around, that she’d also be able to fool me as well? I knew Ian was there... I could smell him and I could sense his presence.
Right. She was probably still in the dark about the fact that the closest people to her were werewolves, who possessed supernatural abilities. She shut her windows, and began to pack her things in a hurry, and I heard her dialling someone’s number, but the number wasn’t available and kept sending her straight to voice mail.
I opened the door of the car, and shut it behind me, as soon as she decided to send a voice mail.
“Hey, when you get this message, call me. Ian believes he saw your sister and he thinks she’s up to something. I won...”
“Hello, Carrie,” I said, cutting in, as I stepped into the clinic, and as she looked at me, the phone fell from her hands.
“I locked the door. How did you...”
“How did I get in? It’s so surprising that you even ask to ask that question, but I guess it’s not your fault. Guess your husband hasn’t been very honest with you. It’s such a shame that he can’t trust you with his secret, and you’ve been together for six years,” I said, walking around the clinic with calculated steps.
She scoffed, looking at me with disbelief. “After all these years, you’re still being a manipulator? You don’t even care about anyone, but yourself. How could you even be trying to pit me against your brother?” Carrie asked.
I shrugged. “I am not trying to ruin your relationship in any way. I’m only telling the truth, but you can believe whatever it is that you want to believe. It’s a free world, isn’t it? Anyways, I am not you to have a chitchat with you. I came here for something...no...someone,” I said, wearing a sly smile.
“Someone? And who may that be,” She asked, feigning innocence.
“Oh, please, stop acting like you don’t know the person I am here for,” I said.
“If you’re here to see Garrett, I’m sorry, but he’s on a business trip on behalf of Alistair,” Carrie said.
I had to admit it. She was very good at lying, and she would have made an amazing actress, but my sense of smell was definitely not deceiving me, and I had heard the slow rise in her heartbeat when she had uttered those words.
“Carrie, let’s not do this the hard way, please. You know that I am here for Ian, and you will give him to me without putting up any resistance. Have I made myself clear?” I questioned.
She scoffed. “I don’t know who told you that Ian’s here, but I have not seen him for over a week now. Believe it or not,” She stated.
“Fine then. If you want to lie about it, it’s cool, but since you’re not going to admit that Ian is here and bring him out of his hiding place, I have no choice than to search this whole clinic to ensure if what you’re saying is true,” I said, placing my hands at akimbo.
“I’m afraid that what you want isn’t going to be possible,” She said, making a polite refusal.
I began to laugh, in a hysterical manner. “What you don’t get is that I did not ask for your permission. I can do whatever I like, and you can’t do anything to stop me,” I said, still laughing hard.
“Well, I can do something to stop you. I’ve only been respecting you because you are Garrett’s sister, but I’ll call the police if you don’t leave this place right this minute,” She said, in a firm tone.
Immediately, I stopped laughing, and pulled her by the neck, tightening my hands around her neck, to the point that she started choking and coughing out loud, beating my hands and begging me to leave her.
“If not that you were Garrett’s wife, and he appears to love you so very much, I would have killed you right here and now, without even feeling remorseful about it,” I said, through clenched teeth, then flung her to the floor, where she coughed and gasped for air.
“What...do...you want with...that innocent child?” She managed to ask, still coughing.
“Isn’t it obvious? I want to kill him,” I said, and giving her a cold glare, I began to walk away, towards the storage room, where I could hear Ian’s heart beating fearfully.
When I was almost there, a chair landed on my head, making me groan in pain. When I turned around, I saw Carrie standing right beside me, panting heavily. I had been too focused on finding Ian that I hadn’t noticed when she had sneaked behind me.
I touched my head, and when I looked at my hand, it was covered in blood. Again, I started to laugh hysterically, and cackled like an old witch.
“You’re not okay. You’re mad,” Carrie said, shaking her head in pity.
“At least, I’m sane enough to know that I shouldn’t fight with a werewolf,” I said, and continued laughing hard, still staring at the blood on my palm.
“I won’t let you do anything to that boy. You’re out of your mind, you even think that you’re a werewolf. Lord only knows what you will do if you get your hands on him,” She said.
“You’re so foolishly stubborn and stupid. Since you won’t let me finish my work here in peace, then, I guess I’d have to do that over your dead body,” I said, transforming into a werewolf, with large paws, razor-sharp fangs and claws.
She stepped backwards, blinking her eyes severally, as if to convince herself that she was seeing things, or probably dreaming.
I grabbed her by the collar, began to hit her head against the wall several times, feeling zero pity for her as she screamed and begged me to let her live. Pulling her hair, I smashed her face against the glass door, pulled her backwards, then caused her to fall flat on the floor. She winced in pain, and began to crawl on her stomach, bleeding profusely.
I knelt before her, and slapped her severally, when I heard a shout from Ian, which caused me to turn around.
“Please, don’t hurt her. Please. I’ll go with you, just don’t hurt her anymore. Please, don’t,” He pleaded.
Blood was dripping from her mouth and gushing from her head. “I’m sorry, but I don’t take orders from kids. At least, you got to know that werewolves truly exist before your death,” I said to Carrie, before cracking her neck, sending her collapsing to the floor.
“Let’s go, shall we?”
“You’re very evil,” He accused, with tears rolling down his cheeks, as his claws shot out from his fingers.
I sneered. “Brave of you to think that a child like you can take on an adult like me. Control yourself right now, before I tear you into pieces. If you don’t want your mummy and daddy to suffer the same fate as Carrie, you’d come here right now instead of wasting my time more than you already have,” I ordered.
He began to walk slowly towards me, muttering a mantra, as he looked at Carrie’s lifeless body, which was sprawled on the floor.
“What a waste of loyalty,” I said, kicking the body far away from me, as I led Ian away from the clinic, with a satisfied grin on my face.
Now, all that was left was to watch Ian die in the presence of his parents, and leave them feeling guilty about seeing their son die, without being able to stop it.
